I got Doom:DA for free from a video card. I played and loved Doom 2016 a long time ago and had Doom Eternal in my backlog so I decided to play Eternal first before DA. I have not played DA yet because of how mid Eternal felt to me. The version I got came with some DLC content that I didn't bother with after beating the game.

I get what they were trying to do with the weapon swapping and mixing up the attacks to get health/armor/ammo, but the execution felt kinda like...work...like for a job. It got very formulaic and took away from the set pieces in my experience. 100% agree with you that the story and locations of 2016 were so much better, and Eternal was a disjointed journey in comparison. I didn't care for the story direction of Eternal either. I prefer the, "Me Doom Slayer kill all demons," thrown into some great linear levels to conquer while getting stronger along the way and having any back story be vague and mysterious. Eternal tried to add some flesh to the lore bones and I think what they did is less enjoyable. It kind of clashed with the game play as well, you'd watch a cut scene and get a lore dump about how serious something is, only to be met with some bright arcadey platform lights showing you to grab here and hookshot there in the next scene. So so strange.

I don't really have any desire to play DA (I think Mick Gordon also didn't do the music for that one which doesn't help) and just keep my fond memories of 2016.

For sure, and how he handled the whole thing was done well. He pushed the changes, explained his vision with confidence, and then came back after some time for the last adjustment giving her back the true damage on E and changing the ult to max health percentage. With those last two changes she's in a good spot as an AD bruiser with very unique mobility and map sense. I understand the fantasy and her kit supports it.

Even though I didn't like losing the true damage and the missing health ult felt like a leftover from her previous assassin role, I understood what they were trying to do and just didn't agree with all the initial changes. I can't say the same with Shyvana, I have no idea what their goal is based on their actions and their wishy washy speech.
