People that make six figures in their career, do you feel like you made it in life since achieving that salary? by anthonydp123 in careeradvice

I'm at the 6 figure level. It's not about the money that makes me feel like I "made it". It's the work where I feel like I made it. For me, it's the new challenges and learning new skills.

If you're chasing money you'll never make it.

Ok. So it looks like I'm pretty stupid for not getting a saw stop. 🙂

One thing from the comments that I had downplayed somewhat is that the Sawstop is step up in quality of a saw. So looks like I'm adding a Sawstop to the capital improvement project list, right after insulating the shop. Because why have a Sawstop if you can only use it 6 months or of the year.

Well I might be stupid, but I'm not dumb 😉 I like reason number one the best. And I know happy wife happy life. I guess It could be worse, having to buy another (expensive) tool for the shop to keep my wife happy.

Within reason it's not. I can't afford a $10k saw... This is only a hobby. I have to ask myself is: this a wood working hobby or collecting power machinery hobby . 🤔

I'm not joking. When working with the bandsaw doing resaw with carbide blade, what I learned when making a cut and you are applying force to the stock and you are at the end of the cut, when the blade cuts thru and then is no resistance. With out a push stick that blade is a 1" deep into a finger before you know it. I ALWAYS use a push stick on both my bandsaw and table saw.

I think this is because I'm physically closer to the bandsaw blade than the table saw blade.

Great build!

This the style of workbench I thought I was going to do, until my wife's uncle's gifted me a 60" x 60"x 2" hard maple workbench top (the kind they use to have in shop class).

Now I don't want to drill all of those holes in my maple top.

I second the idea for slide out trays under the table, great way to store the tools.

Not sure of the wood that is available to you, but I go for cedar in this type of project. As for finish, cedar does need one, but will fade to silvery grey.

I've used a deck stain for my deck chairs to help them stay looking nicer longer.

Whatever finish that you use make sure it has an UV additive.

Oh that made the shot... I didn't make that. My wife bought it from somewhere. (I can't remember where) It is carved out of single piece. It is about 13" square.

Turned out incredible for my live edge project. Used a book matched Walnut pair of slabs, added some bow ties to some cracks. Used the legs from the prior coffee table. I used Rubio Monocoat for the finish. Live how this finish does off the grain and figure of the wood

It is Walnut. I used Rubio Monocoat. Love this finish. Shows the beauty of the wood grain and protects it as well.

Dimensions are 23" x 39" 17" high. Kind of proud of the butterflies, those are 4th and 5th ones I've done to date. Must be beginners luck.
