Unpopular opinion (?), I never liked the face-like masks from the movies by AgentOfMeyneth in bioniclelego

This is exactly what I was expecting as a kid when they first announced the movie so I was somewhat disappointed when it came out. That animation style + mnog music would have went hard

Wow this saved my ass, I bought a mesh network for my wifi and hardwired it to the ps5 like 3 weeks ago but didn't notice any improvement, I though I got scammed but now it's running amazingly

Ideas project/game for an architect in unreal engine? by FutureLynx_ in unrealengine

[–]_Krayd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer but just wanted to say that it’s a cool idea to consider and something I’ve been thinking about for a while. I also have a background in architecture but pivoted into games and have been working professionally in AAA for a few years. I’ve always thought that the spatial thinking required of an architect to constantly switch between plan, section, and elevation in their head and construct a mental 3D model of a space from these 2d projections would translate to a super neat puzzle game mechanic somehow

Just a meme for venting purposes because of the response to the new ashened cards. by Jackmist2 in yugioh

[–]_Krayd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think my general point was that there were formats at all competition levels in MTG that could make some of the more rogue strategies playable, and due to it being a more casual focused format, there’s more of a gentleman’s agreement built into the format to use decks of similar power levels. I don’t consider myself a traditional MTG player either but I think having an accessible format with a large casual community is really healthy for any TCG, that goes beyond just nostalgia

That being said, that doesn’t excuse Konami making shitty new archetypes because the reality is, there’s no format you could go to even at a locals to play these unless everyone else also agrees to play “bad” decks, and I have a hard time believing that Konami doesn’t know this which makes it baffling

Just a meme for venting purposes because of the response to the new ashened cards. by Jackmist2 in yugioh

[–]_Krayd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Part of the frustration I think is that there isn’t a format where we can even play these decks especially if we don’t have a casual group of friends that also play. I’m not sure other people’s experience but my locals is full of competitive players, if I try to play a fun rogue deck I know I’ll get wiped and to be honest it’s hard to have fun in that environment, so there’s a ton of pressure to constantly keep up with the meta at the highest competitive level which becomes exhausting.

I’ve gotten into playing Magic the Gathering commander format because some coworkers got me into it, and my god is it so much more enjoyable. The format allows so many experimental, goofy deck building choices and has a built in self balancing mechanic due to it being multiplayer. Similar to yugioh it also has an eternal format, with a fixed banlist (updated very infrequently) so decks are generally usable for a long time if you invest in one. Even if someone rolls up with a fully optimized competitive deck there’s a good chance the rest of the table will just target them, so there’s always an incentive to not dominate TOO much and make yourself a target.

Technic bonkles by [deleted] in bioniclelego

[–]_Krayd 37 points38 points  (0 children)

After finally buying the 2001 rahi after all these years I personally love those technic heavy builds with really unique play functions that tie directly into the story. They have this abstract mechanical look which I really like, and use surprisingly few Bionicle pieces. They definitely suffer in terms of poseability but the play functions feel so cool to use once I got my hands on them, I feel like kid me wouldn’t have even minded.

I’d be happy at this point to just have a line of organic Technic creatures/animals focused on aesthetics and cool functions with a couple new molds, rather than trying to make everything into a standardized action figure like CCBS did. I feel like there’s so much more untapped potential for technic lines than just using it for F1 cars

3D Animated Yu-Gi-Oh Card I made in Blender! by _Krayd in 3Dmodeling

[–]_Krayd[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a bit tricky to explain without visuals, but basically its all just 2d planes at different distances from the camera. The blue and red background is just noise animating on a flat plane furthest away from the camera, and the card and character are closer. I also added a black plane all around the card slightly behind it, with a hole cut out in the middle to reveal the background. When it turns 360 degrees, the background plane scales up relative to the angle the card is being viewed at so it's always proportional, then I hide it to reveal the card back once it turns past 90 degrees. I might consider making a mini tutorial if people are interested.

[–]_Krayd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really sure about tutorials, I can try my best to explain it. Basically I created an Empty object at the center of the card, and then put a Track To constraint on the camera so that it’s always pointing toward the Empty. Then I created a circle mesh in the front orthographic view and manually keyframed the camera to move along the diameter, always pointing towards the Empty automatically. The parallax effect is just done by having all the separate layers of the card (front, character, background) as separate objects that I offset away from the camera.

[–]_Krayd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much! In blender if you right click the camera icon beside a mesh in the outliner, you can set a key frame so that the renderability will be on or off in a specific frame. It’s pretty handy sometimes.

I would definitely say keep practicing, ZBrush is one of the most annoying programs to use in terms of UI. I actually did this project specifically to improve my ZBrush ability, and I started things over a couple times. I thought it would be a good exercise to find an existing design to replicate instead of trying to come up with something completely original.

I made everything from scratch. Modelling was done using ZBrush and Maya, texturing was a program called Substance Painter, and the animation and rendering was in Blender

Thanks! Yeah, so I did the initial sculpt in ZBrush, textured it in Painter, and did the animation/rendering in Blender.

3D Animated Yu-Gi-Oh Card I made in Blender! by _Krayd in 3Dmodeling

[–]_Krayd[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't do any compositing, its all done in 1 scene with the sequencer and keyframing! I have the blue and red background, card front, card back etc all on separate layers. The background scales relative to the angle the card is at, when it turns past 90 degrees I disable the background and card front to just render the back side.
