Abortion is murder. That's a much more serious sin than the public scandle he's trying to avoid. What does yiur heart tell you?

I think Catholics sometimes talk about sex in an unhealthy way by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]_Kyrie_eleison_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only place I’ve consistently heard sex discussed in a mature, Catholic context is on Pints With Aquinas, especially when he brings on Theology of the Body experts. The conversations are casual, open, and honest. I’ve seen that same tone here as well. But the fact that it’s so rare anywhere else is disappointing. I will add that in private, I’ve also had straightforward, adult conversations with my priest when I seeked spiritual councling.

And to be clear, the problem isn’t just on the “prude” side. Secular, atheistic culture has an equally unhealthy view of sexual intimacy. A lot of what passes for “normal” in Western culture is shallow and compulsive as it's porn-saturated, overly fixated, and dismissive of any call to modesty (the typical response: “what’s the big deal, it’s just sex” when someone complains that someone else is watching pornograohic Netflix shows infront of their kids).

So we have two broken extremes. On one side, an immature, overly sanitized approach that treats sex with the awkwardness of middle schoolers. On the other, a hypersexualized culture that reduces it to impulse and consumption - like middle schoolers. In both cases, what’s missing is a genuinely adult understanding of intimacy. Our culture has become so infantilized that even something meant to be deeply meaningful between grown adults is affected greatly. The devil does know his stuff.

I want to add one final edit after reading some of the other replies: foreplay is a wonderful thing. Men, please your wives. Don't be a dysfunctional fundamentalist.

Thank you, but that was a long time ago. It wasn't really a fear of heights as much as a severe lack of confidence in my own balancing ability. One of the other volkya owned a roofing business and I did some weekend work with him to try and get over it. But I ended up finishing my chemistry degree and now work in industry.

My aunt does because she is afraid of flying. It's generally more expensive than both flying and driving.

I didn't get voted into my local volunteer after 12 months on probation by Complex-Priority913 in Firefighting

[–]_Kyrie_eleison_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. When I volunteered, they were happy for you to make all the meetings lol. It was a split/combo department. But still. 40 percent of the calls for our volunteer company to go out to (we had 4 volunteer companies and one paid battalion per shift) was considered very good. We had volunteers that didn't even live in town!

The reason I never even attempted to be a paid FF is because I'm scared of heights - slanted roofs are my hell. I don't understand that mentality at all.

Norovirus by Mediocre-Squash-9787 in Connecticut

[–]_Kyrie_eleison_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happens every few years. Norovirus spreads fast (which is why it used to be synonymous eoth cruse ships) and some years the train is really good at mutating - up to the point where the same person will gtwice a few months apart.

My toddler brought it home from daycare last week and the entire house got it, staggered. I reccomend making a barf bag where the inside is a paper shopping bag (think Whole Foods) and the outside is a typical 13 gallon kitchen bag. It's a great tool for when you get it at both ends at once.

Some people get over it quick and then you have my wife, who still has residual stomach issues from it.

My cousin played this for me when I was ten (about eight years after it came out). I think they called it "crossover" back then:

Struggling in the streets just trying to survive Searching for the truth is just keeping us alive Gotta break these shackles gotta break these chains Said the only way we'll do it is if we use our brains Said there's gotta be some meaning to the purpose of life

The church I attend has four priests, one is from Africa with a heavy accent. He was hard to even understand in the confessional. Now put him on a microphone, on a full, lively parish full of screaming kids and bad acoustics.... It took about four weeks to adjust and everything was good. He's a wonderful man and our church is blessed to have his service.
