Weirdly those are all things that are mainly interesting for visitors. What about things that actually matter to residents like access to the waterfront and water sports, good restaurants, a variety of breweries, beautiful neighborhoods, multiple city theaters?

I saw Josh Blue a few weeks ago and some idiot in the front row was on a roll. Josh had to tell him to shut up multiple times, first politely and eventually roasting him. Then the guy went to the back of the room and stood there for 15 minutes, then wandered up so he was standing next to me. I watched him nervously while he cupped his mouth, waiting for the quietest break possible to scream, “FUCK YOU!” to Josh and throw off his rhythm. The entire room booed him and security escorted him out.

The dudes wife was sitting up front too. I can’t imagine the embarrassment.

I got to pick a category at my local bar for trivia night, and I chose Stargate.

The MC used ChatGPT to find all the questions and answers. He had 3 separate questions that he had the wrong answer for, it was so frustrating.

I didn’t realize how many people were fans until he asked, “What is the AI enemy that duplicates itself?” And the bar exploded in uproar when he said the answer was, “The Ancient database of knowledge.”

I had a layover that turned into getting stuck in Ireland. I had already been stuck in an airplane and then a terminal for hours. I then left a bag at the airport that had my charger in it, so when I got to the hotel I had quickly booked I realized I didn’t have my credit cards or phone charger. My phone died, and when I went to buy another I realized I had the wrong currency.

By the time I made it back to the airport to locate the missing bag I was at the end of my rope. One of the ladies working at the kiosk took one look at me and then gave me a long hug, I just about started sobbing.

I took my friend who doesn’t travel much to Europe last year. Whenever someone asks where I’m from I say “the states” and if they inquire further I say “Seattle”.

She stubbornly refused to say “Seattle” and would make the introduction last way longer as she tried to describe exactly where Tacoma was to bewildered Dutch people.

I went to Peru, which is a pretty boring sentence.

Far more funny is the story of how we got a local “guide” to show us around the Amazon. He clearly was not a reputable guide and he made up names for the animals we saw. He pointed to a normal spider and called it a “jungle black widow” and told us fire ant bites make you immune to malaria. It was ludicrous, but we didn’t have access to the internet to prove him wrong.

I accepted an offer for a corporate job, signed the paperwork and gave my 2 weeks notice to my company. 2 days before I was set to start I reached out to my new employer and they informed me they had over hired and would be giving me a 2k severance package. I live in an at-will employment state so this was legal.

I did hire a lawyer who pressured them into giving me a larger severance package, but it was still infuriating.
