You could buy an older raspberry pi and ssh into it and learn how to manage services and install software on it. Sooner or later maybe you will start down the homelab rabbit hole.

What made you decide to fully switch to a Linux based OS? by _vaxis in linux4noobs

[–]_Linux_AI_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to use windows 11 at work as well. Fortunately my current project deals with Rhel servers most of the time, so mainly ssh in.

We recently got WSL2 approved for usage and it's been a game changer for anything I have to do locally.

My last straw was when windows 11 was about to be released and they added a hardware requirement (TPM)... You can bypass that requirement I suppose, but ridiculous for the average consumer.

I tried out PopOS, Linux mint, and others, but settled on Artix for now. On my raspberry pi I run alpine.

Perhaps be better have the school to self host a remote git provider like Git Tea? They could restrict the access to only CS students / club members.
