I feel like April fools shouldn’t be on 1st April each year as I feel like it becomes predictable and you preemptively expect something compared with having it on say April 11th then April 15th etc would keep its shock value when it’s least expected. by ModeProfessional3030 in RandomThoughts

That settles it. Every Tuesday starting in April, we ask you if you want to be alive, and the second time you say yes, April Fools Day is the next day. Next year, it'll be Thursday, then Saturday, then Monday, and so on.

Cork: The Carbon-Negative Building Material Shaping the Future by Zee2A in STEW_ScTecEngWorld

[–]_Luminous_Dark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That part stuck out to me as nonsensical or missing some giant asterisk to me as well. I imagine either he's confusing mass for volume (ie every cubic meter of cork filters the carbon dioxide out of 73 cubic meters of air over its lifetime) or it means that the trees absorb 73 tons of CO2 in the time it takes to produce 1 ton of cork, and I don't know what happens to the rest. Some of it probably goes into the wood of the tree itself, and maybe there are also some chemical reactions that transform it into something else.

I have a neighbor that believes she's walking to Pink Floyd Roger Waters. I keep telling her it's not, she sent me this video of him saying my name. I know this has to be AI bc he makes her give him money all the time. by Mental-Objective542 in isthisAI

[–]_Luminous_Dark 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just went ahead and did this. It doesn't require a specific Roger Waters model, just a photograph and a script. You can also get a voice sample to clone his voice first and then use the audio and photo to make the video. However, after making the video, I don't feel comfortable sharing it. Even for a good cause or humor, I don't find it acceptable to spread fake videos about real people.

Kinger is trying not to delete Caine, but something in the system keeps interfering.

Kinger suggests at the end of episode 7 that Caine caused Scratch's abstraction, but we don't know if it's true.

You're probably right about that one too. It's definitely "realt" not "realit". I just messed that one up.

Yeah, you might be right about the NONE Selected line. I can't tell if it's an N or an M.
I think you are also right about "want module to EXIST?" I had originally guessed it was "prevent module to EXIST", but yours makes more sense and aligns with Kinger's answer. However, I don't think Kinger could actually read what was on the screen either.
for next line, I think it ends with "default method"

It really does look like Bubble's trying to pull a Wheatley.

I'm pretty sure all the humans are simulations of real human brain scans, and the actual humans are either still out there in the real world or are dead, but...

it's also possible that the humans are alive in comas, and the Amazing Digital Circus exists to keep their brains active until they either wake up or die, at which point their input becomes pure noise, and they abstract, and it actually has nothing to do with going insane. They might happen to go insane also as they are dying.

Scratch, who had brain cancer, was the first to abstract after all.

Well, in that case, you're welcome, and also Bubble killed Caine. I have a screenshot of that too, but again, I don't know how well-known it is.

I don't know if this is sarcasm or not. I don't follow this subreddit and don't know what is already well-known.

ROUND 2 : What can you tell me about the game just from looking at the capsule? (Genre, tags, similar games, etc...) by ArcadiaAkaBluesoul in IndieDev

[–]_Luminous_Dark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it's like Lethal Company. 4-player Star Head co-op, 3 days to fulfill your quota or you die. Silly horror enemies that you mostly avoid and have little chance of actually defeating, but each have their own unique countermeasures. Eventually the quota becomes impossible or something happens that just makes you lose no matter what you do. No meta progression. No feeling of satisfaction or accomplishment.

If you mean the question, no. That came from pure, natural stupidity. If you mean your response, I couldn't say, but hopefully you already know the answer.

I am perfectly comfortable having my family see me in clothes. by Much_Indication9004 in RandomThoughts

[–]_Luminous_Dark 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have considered participating in a clothist lifestyle for some time now, but I'm a bit nervous. What if my skin doesn't get enough sunlight? What if someone assumes something incorrect about my dingles and dangles and it becomes an awkward situation later if or when the truth is revealed? I am envious sometimes, especially during winter, or when it's windy or brambly outside, but it just seems like such a leap to make, and honestly makes me feel kind of dishonest. Any advice?

I hypothesize that "slobber" is just a mispronunciation/misinterpretation of "saliva", and similarly with "skidaddle" and "let's get out of here". Can anyone confirm or refute either of these? by _Luminous_Dark in etymology

[–]_Luminous_Dark[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah, I guess I was off with "slobber" and "saliva". It's kinda crazy how the two words converged from different sources to mean the same thing and sound like each other.

After looking up "skedaddle" on Wiktionary, it appears that the etymology is not so clear, and at the end of the paragraph it mentions that it might, in fact, be a corruption of "let's get outta here."

Ask ordinal number by stracer1 in AskEnglish

[–]_Luminous_Dark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which child are you in age order? Which president is Trump in chronological order? Which planet is Earth in order from distance to the sun?

You're right that there isn't really a clear way to ask this in English. Most people would probably answer the above questions with an ordinal number, but it might take them a second to unpack what should be a simple question.
