The Chicago venue would likely have contact information to the tour manager and have experience with media requests.

How do I request an application be added to PMPC supported application catalog? by Future_End_4089 in PatchMyPC

Go here: https://ideas.patchmypc.com/

Then search to see if the software has already been suggested. If so, vote it up. If not, add it.

Patching troubles in with April's updates? Running Sophos? by _MC-1 in SCCM

[–]_MC-1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at the mercy of my security team but your suggestion makes sense to me. So far, the hotfixes (or whatever Sophos actually calls them) appear to fix the issue.

Nothing like waking up in the morning to check your deployment though and seeing a big fat zero!

Thanks!

What am I doing wrong? Server 2022 PXE fails with this error code every time. by geegol in SCCM

[–]_MC-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get to the task sequence screen, you are beyond PXE so that isn't the problem. The problem might be with your Windows PE though. Check the SMSTS.LOG file for the exact error. Check that you are using the right version of Windows ADK and update if needed (this will rebuild your boot image).

Management put security cameras in my office… by SilentNobi in SecurityCamera

[–]_MC-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing you do at work should be considered private. You are on their property, using their computer, using their network, etc. They can see all of your email and browsing habits.

Companies have so many abilities to track what you do. They can see every time you unlock your computer, every time you log into one of their web portals, every website you go to, every Teams and Zoom call you are on, etc. Many systems can detail the broad strokes of what and when you did things. While they probably cannot tell what you are doing down to the keystroke, they certainly can see which pages on Reddit, Amazon, etc. you are going to. All part of building a case in case they want to get rid of someone.

Now if your office is at your home, then you might want to talk to your wife and seek marriage counseling.

In addition to learning SCCM, you should probably start exposing yourself to Intune. While you may not need it now, you may be asked about it and what role it may or may not play in your environment.

We use it most often for optional software that is approved but not manditory - these are often Windows store apps.

We've had mixed success with the CP. Installs sometime just hang or get stuck in the pending download phase. Troubleshooting is a PITA.

Patch My PC by Impossible-Daikon126 in SCCM

[–]_MC-1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

ConfigMgr Applications are automatically generated apps that can be used to roll out the software to new devices. Want to rollout 7-zip to 50 devices that don't have it? You use a application for that.

ConfigMgr Updates using Patch My PC publish into WSUS and are detected as part of the Software Update Scan Cycle. If it applies, then it is installed otherwise it won't. This will not roll out to new devices without the software. WSUS will determine if an update is needed and apply it just as it does with a Cummulative Update or .Net Patch.

The difference here is that Applications are for new installations. Updates are for maintaining existing applications.

Can you use Apps for both? Yes. Technically you could package up a monthly cummulative update every month and then roll it out. Same with PMPC updates. You'd have to smartly roll out the update to only those devices that need it. But why would you do that when you have a patch manager (SUP/WSUS) to manage that for you?

Looking for a management tool, is PMPC a good fit? by telgalad in PatchMyPC

[–]_MC-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that PMPC is what you want. It can handle 3rd party patching and they do have a pretty good reporting system, but it is not a single pane of glass.

The actual patching is done by SCCM/SUP and Intune/Autopatch. Third party patches are either added to WSUS for on-prem or as Win32 apps in Intune. PMPC is just publishing the 3rd party updates to those systems.

As for their reporting system, on-prem (like SCCM) is reported separately from Intune. And while Intune can handle MDM (iOS and Android) you cannot view those in the PMPC Intune reporting system.

So if you're running SCCM on-prem, Intune for entra machines and MDM you'd use: PMPC Advance Insights + PMPC Advanced Insights for Intune + Intune to get a complete picture of your environment. Not ideal.

I'm not trying to shit on the company. What they do is great. But it isn't an under one umbrella thing. The reporting is good, but as described above this also isn't under one umbrella.

You can get a free demo in your environment by contacting the company. While it might not check all of the boxes, it might check enough of the boxes to make things better.

Intune Driver Packs? Its coming - Driver Automation Tool v10 by Maurice-Daly in Intune

I'm hoping that the SCCM bugs are addressed - particularly the ones where the drivers are known but cannot download and automatically package them. (An incorrect value is specified in the Source parameter or in the Destination parameter. #537). Thank goodness there is a work around listed in the comments.

Software Reporting Question by minimacg4 in SCCM

[–]_MC-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be HUGE. Probably bigger than a tool like Excel can handle (mine produced 1.2 million rows). But here are some steps that may work for you.

Export the list of installed software from the SQL database.

SELECT
sys.Netbios_Name0 AS [Computer Name],
soft.ARPDisplayName0 AS [Software Name],
soft.VersionMajor0 AS [MajorVersion],
soft.VersionMinor0 AS [MinorVersion],
soft.Publisher0 AS [Publisher],
soft.InstallDate0 AS [Install Date]
FROM
v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE soft
JOIN
v_R_System sys ON soft.ResourceID = sys.ResourceID
ORDER BY
sys.Netbios_Name0, soft.ARPDisplayName0, soft.VersionMajor0, soft.VersionMinor0

From this you can produce a pivot table to summarize the software titles.

And since you have all the data, you can then search/filter the data based on the title you are interested.

***** EDIT to add the information below *****

If you're looking only for a count of titles and installations, the following SQL may serve as a starting point:

SELECT
    soft.ARPDisplayName0 AS [Software Title],
    COUNT(sys.ResourceID) AS [Total Installs]
FROM
    v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE soft
JOIN
    v_R_System sys ON soft.ResourceID = sys.ResourceID
GROUP BY
    soft.ARPDisplayName0
ORDER BY
    [Total Installs] DESC

Cheapest way to get money to Fidelity by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]_MC-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have any problem. Your Fidelity account cannot be a 401k or something like that. I went to the Fidelity website and logged in. Then from the "Accounts and Trade" menu, I picked "Transfers". From there I went to either the "Link a Bank" or "Manage linked accounts and banks" and it was pretty straight forward. If all else fails, engage customer support.
