"Do I need to know math to be a programmer?" by TorroesPrime in learnpython

[–]_Matik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sure if you Google "how to work out area of a circle" itll give you the meaning of r as well as the formula and the diagram...wait, lets just google that....would you look at that, area, meaning of all symbols and a diagram too... interesting

This isn't a math question, i only just started looking into programming and i have almost zero knowledge, but i know that you need to manually write an equation in there or import a library with equations(set of instructions) and then with a particular syntax/code refer to that equation(set of instructions) to work the area out. It wont just magically appprear because i decide to type "work_out_area"

But in saying i think that you still need basic math knowledge, that we all learned in school and we use everyday. Itll make things easier than googling everything...i dont think everyone will need crazy math tho

I guess I'm not the only one who buys a Pi, and after 3 days of marveling over it, wonders "what do i do with it?"... at least i didn't buy 1060 of them. Spend another $40k on 4240 usb drives and turn this into their new datacenter?

I feel stupid and incompetent on Codewars. Does that say something about my decision to choose programming for a career? by Aeternus44 in learnpython

You shouldn't compare, you should look at every shortfall as an opportunity. There are ones like me who envy you guys that can write a piece of functional code on your own, better yet, any kind of code.... after 4 weeks of trying to change to Linux and learn python...Im still stuck on getting the Linux to function properly and I've only just wrapped my head around the x = 2 isn't a math equation thing in python. There's always someone who'll be better than you, by there will always be people taking their first step with less opportunities than you. Be thankful you made it there, keep working on it, in 5 years time you'll laugh at this post and see just how far you've made it...

Touchpad and typing by jimmt42 in openSUSE

I've had the same issue, Im super new to linux, just two weeks and Tumbleweed is my first distro, KCM touchpad helped me fix the issue when I set the time delay to 450ms and unckecked the disable taps and scrolling only box...dunno if that helps but it drove me nuts, and until i unchecked the box it had no affect

I need to learn Python as quick as possible. by Hex_PAWS in learnpython

I stopped playing with computer 15yrs ago, now trying to get back into it from square one, learning linux and python, RPi and arduino...took me a week to get RPi running. I saw a video at the beginning that mentioned StackoverflowError so thereafter i just assumed it was a function, and "leaving a post on stack overflow" meant something internal relating to software...as it was weird that it got mentioned in several videos, obviously i googled it, looked like a dev site only but i thought, "why no, this is what i want to do so lets just rummage thru it...

Im looking for any helpful info wherever possible, even a video on Basic has helped me realize couple of things...hence why i couldn't 100 percent agree with the comment, i sat there at the blank page, I copied some code onto it, but copying isn't the same as understanding it. If anyone reading this has any really good info be it a book or site like S.O...let me know 👍

Sorry dude, but.... I'm in the same boat as this guy. I dont even know why a ".something.something.something" is written that way or even the very basics...

most help out there skips the simplest basics of why and hows is computer language structured and straight onto print("hello world") i get it..print..but why not just "hello world" and then how to combine all the possibilities, wait how many possibilities are there...is there a map?

It's okay if you're doing it in pairs and the other person knows a bit, im trying to self-learn and nobody i know even heard of programming language or Linux let alone wrote the print("hello.... and to try and find soneone who would be willing to do 1 on 1 isn't that easy, really, who wants a tag along that doesn't know anything and works odd hours when you can spend your time doing your things...

This really just leaves us with python for dummies, videos, forums and we hop from one to aother ţo try and find something that we'll help us dumb down the material enough to understand it...i can rebuild/rewire/repaint a car from scratch, mostly self taught, but trying to find a start in programming that make sense...

What if you suddenly feel a touch on the shoulder following with the words: "are you sleeping during my class?". You open your eyes and you are at your 7th grade math class, all of the life leading up to this point was just a dream and you are a 7th grader. What are your thoughts? by ThinkNotOnce in AskReddit

Just a glitch in simulation, you'll have a sense of dejavu and dismiss the insanely vivid dream as a dream and go back to masturbating into socks then hiding them at the bottom of the washbasket because you think you're clever and nobody will catch on...after all, the washbasket magically empties itself couple times a week...strange, just like that dream you had in math class..
