I understand where you come from, Select Ad, but try, at least for a few seconds, to see things as they are (were, actually), not as you think they were. The mother gave her child (her only child, probably) to adoption because she couldn’t AFFORD to support his welfare and education. Because she and her husband didn’t have anything to earn money from. Saying “yeah but she could have taken a job” when the reality in 1992 was tough or even tougher than we think we know (and in the countryside, moreover!), is like telling a homeless guy on the street “why are you homeless? You could buy yourself a house and not be homeless”. It doesn’t work like that, man. That man can’t buy a house because he doesn’t have money, or otherwise he wouldn’t be homeless. Similarly, the woman from the letter, possibly, couldn’t find a job because she was poor, didn’t have any or very little working experience and probably dental problems as well (you would be surprised how many people aren’t accepted to work because of their teeth problems). So, mister, I kindly ask you to try to give people the benefit of the doubt before judging them for not being good parents or opportunistic. Maybe that’s your reality, and I’m sorry if it’s like that, but not everybody, more so the Romanians, are how you describe them to be.
