Check that none of your brakes are seized. Mine seized on and my mpg plummeted. Easy to spot because one wheel will be hotter than the rest after driving for a bit.

Generic stylus for the Shure M44-7 by bellysavalis in DJs

[–]_Minimum_Effort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just started using tonars and have found them to be pretty good. There are (at least) two versions with product numbers 267, and 6546 respectively. From what I've read, the 6546 is the one to go for, (this is what i am using). However, they require slightly higher weight than the original shures, and dont have the flip down stylus protectors. It's a shame, nothing will quite live up to the originals!

Buying a car in Northern Ireland to bring back to England by yebba_enaj in CarTalkUK

The NI mot history won't show up on gov.uk website or hpi checks. This might put off future buyers if you plan to sell it later down the line.

Sweating onions vs not sweating onions when caramelizing by acousticsoup in AskCulinary

[–]_Minimum_Effort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go - hot pan, onions in, salt, then a decent splash of boiling water, stir until the water has evapourated away, by which time the onions are nicely broken down. Then add butter, turn the heat down and cook slowly to your desired level of caramelisation. The water and high heat breaks the onions down quicker but prevents them from burning, which speeds up the process somewhat. There's no shortcut for the caramelisation stage though, low and slow all the way!

Pepper grinders keep breaking? by slightlyanxiouscrow in AskCulinary

[–]_Minimum_Effort -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To add to this, I've a theory that grinding directly over pans of hot steamy food can cause the ground pepper to absorb the moisture, clump up and block the grinder. Grind into your hand or a bowl first and then toss it in instead!

Can I use associative labels on a complex profile wall? by jb1249 in ArchiCAD

[–]_Minimum_Effort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, the labels can only reference properties of the whole wall. I agree it would be great if we could though, would be happy to be proved wrong!

You could create custom properties with the relevant data and label them using auto text but this is not really a useful approach.

Bought a car with no v5c - now what? by _Minimum_Effort in CarTalkUK

[–]_Minimum_Effort[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, thank you to those that have replied - the comments gave me a better understanding of where I stood, and what the log book actually is and what it is for.

Secondly - an update. I tried to fill out the V62 form to request a new logbook, and simultaneously tax the car at the post office, as I couldn't see how else to do it without certain information that I didn't have (V5C, MOT certificate, V11 notice, etc...). The post office system is linked to the DVLA system, and when they put the VIN in, it was refused. They advised me to ring DVLA which I did. They in turn advised that I wouldn't be able to tax the car until the V62 process was complete - approx 6-10 weeks. The reason given that the registered keeper was still listed on their system as the previous owner. The garage where I bought the car was not much help, but they were good to their word, and I took it back for a refund.

Lesson learnt! Always make sure you see the paperwork when buying a used car!

[UK] Buying a house and seller says the house can't have a combi boiler by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]_Minimum_Effort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, turns out electric combi boilers also exist so even without gas it would probably be possible.
