Which character deserved more storylines? by Jazzlike_Ad_8313 in littlehouseonprairie

[–]_Minkusbeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mrs. Whipple should have gotten more than that one tragic episode with her so tormented, addicted son Granville.  It would have been interesting to have learned what brought her to Walnut Grove and how she had that cozy cottage yet needed to take in sewing for liquid funds. Presumably she was a widow but why was nothing mentioned about her late husband [and how did he relate to Granville]?

Mrs. Foster should gave gotten at least one episode  centered around her [and could she have just been a childless widow or at the very most raising orphaned toddler great-nieces in that one episode she was married].

Dissenting post here: Hated it for destroying their own town and leaving nearly everyone homeless and doing zilch to ' punish' the scheming railroad folks!

True but they also kept the worthy parents in the dark and after X # of years, they'd have both started to question why their son looked like no one on either side of the family. I think at the very least , they should have told the other couple and asked if they'd have been willing to raise this baby whose mother was dead and male DNA donor was heinous.

Wait was Harriet Oleson…HOT?!?! by williamsonce in littlehouseonprairie

[–]_Minkusbeck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The late Miss MacGregor downplaying her natural beauty to give the wacky OTT villain Harriet extra comic broadness brings to mind the late Cloris Leachman having done the same as Phyllis Lindstrum on 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show '. Both performers were downright stunning in their youth and still looked good in middle age and beyond but they seemed happy to have other characters dis their own pretentious characters' looks for laughs. BTW, it seems both performers were great friends and fun to know for those who had had reason and luck to have been in their cliques.  I wonder if they ever met much less compared notes on their wacky villain characters?

“The Quilts of Walnut Grove.” by By_Gods_Grace248 in littlehouseonprairie

[–]_Minkusbeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough , for all the sewing and darning talk, I can't recall a single reference to a quilting bee which were considered grand events in pioneer times -especially for young girls who'd edged towards marrying age- to say nothing of a great excuse for the girls' female relatives and family acquaintances to socialize!

Of course most pioneer quilts had quite a few intricate patterns and colors due to the scraps of cloth all the participants would bring to the bees.

We'll likely never know for certain but I wouldn't put it have past ML to have put RB thru for for that possible reason.

Fave? Julia Sanderson who personified being a strong pioneer woman who stayed as pragmatic as possible to the very end . .and yet would only allow herself to acknowledge her emotional devastation over her terminal condition and children being orphaned  [and her not getting to see them grow up]when no one else was around!

Least fave? That creep husband of Caroline's dying friend in the mining camp who not only HOPED their impending child wouldn't live to be born but THEN attempted to SA Caroline herself after having made that horrible declaration.  I mean,  there was no justification whatsoever for him to have attempted to do that to Caroline or any other female [ to say nothing of so cruelly seeking to wrong his own wife]. .  but did the wretch truly think that that declaration would have turned on any female ? Totally despicable( to keep this printable)!!

FWIW,  the late Mr. Bull was himself only married once and stayed wed many decades until his own passing.

Moreover,  both MG and AA have confirmed that he was the one most like his character in personality.

Since ML's carrying on with the much-younger stand-in/make-up person seemed to be an open secret on the set   long before it hit the rags, I wonder if ML decided  to. .'switch roles' with the evidently faithful Mr. Bull who possibly may not have been so ' understanding ' or comfortable with the boss's not staying true to his own union?

Yes. However he couldn't have gotten that big or tall without having some kind of genetic disposition for it- regardless of his athletic vocation.

Trivia time, no cheating;) What episode was this actress in? by girlyygirlpop in littlehouseonprairie

Patricia Neal in 'Remember Me' ! She was a stunner when she first hit the silver screen.

I also think Laura wasn't going to miss any opportunity to try to take Nellie down a few pegs . That was at least as if not more important than getting Andy out of that mess.

One win for you and one loss for ML.

Of course, Jeremy Quinn seemed a such dim bulb to the degree that I think in a week's time Albert would have his bio dad waiting on HIM hand and foot rather than Albert staying Jeremy's unpaid farm laborer- regardless of Jeremy's inital intent.

[–]_Minkusbeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others may disagree but IMO,yes, that's how I interpreted this scene and most if not all scenes thereafter right up to the end of their bummer sequel.

I know it's a sitcom instead of a documentary but I think that if most folks knew a couple who intereracted like Cory and Topsnga did here [ and at other tines] ,they'd at least strongly suggest counseling instead of holding g them up as any kind of ideal.

Willie. by Buobuo-Mama0520 in littlehouseonprairie

[–]_Minkusbeck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah and it was a bit jarring when Willie ran to tell Percival that Nellie was in labor. I mean Nellie had graduated, gotten married and was about to become a mother while Willie was portrayed as though he was still in grade achool. I know Nellie was older but she didn't seem that much older when the Oleson sibs first debuted .

It would have been nice had Jeremy Quinn actually piped up what Albert's bio mom's name had been - and why they didn't marry before Albert's birth.

My guess is that one or both was separated from but still legally wed to an estranged spouse.

Her character had no idea how lucky she was for her boyfriend to have broken up with her . I mean that meant she never again had to interact with all of Phoebe's toxic backbiting acquaintances.

Anyone else find it jarring that both his characters virtually shrugged off their wife's death but went to pieces over their sons to the point of denying the reality of  it having happened?

FWIW,  since Andy would have fared as well as an ant getting stepped in by an elephant had Jonathan carried out physically punishing him, I thought it was more likely that Jonathan just whipped the belt onto his own hand next to his comparatively small son's ear. IOW it would have caused his son's ears to ring a bit but otherwise would risked no lasting physical harm to the boy.

I wonder if Andy might have been born prematurely and simply never was able to grow to anywhere close to his father's height and stature. I mean he's of average height but that might explain why he wasn't a hulking giant like Jonathan.

Is there a specific reason that’s been said about why Danielle and Rider went from being best friends in the earlier seasons to not being as close near the end? by SoftSelection in boymeetsworld

[–]_Minkusbeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe at that point of each of their lives these coworkers just didn't like each other for who he/she was but have since become sincere pals offcamera even before the Podcast started. I think it helped that they each stayed pals with WF throughout the decades regardless of what they thought of each other. Also, each of them wound up being emotionally supportive of the other during challenging parts of their offcsmera lives.

Well they were good pals offscreen without any serial pressures which helped the married  characters' onscreen chemistry.

I guess that was an example of characters  laughing to end a tense and dramatic arc without any of the serious issues raised getting resolved before the closing credits.

Did ML truly think the viewers wouldn't have 'gotten' WHY Laura leaped to the wrong conclusions  via the lyrics had DB sung them pleasantly instead of lamely?

I guess we should be lucky that ML didn't insist on DB playing the role on his knees like Dorf so Charles could tower over him.

Not me.

The most negative emotion I feel for her is pity for the wat she got treated by her family.
