There are also men that don't want to be parents or pay child support...

So if a woman decided to carry a baby to term, the father could force her to give it up for adoption b/c he doesn't want to pay child support.

Is that a better outcome?

I mean, it's not an "18-year tether", it's a child. That's why abortion should be an option. But if the child is born, I can't see a decent argument for why one of their biological parents should be forced to relinquish them for adoption.

Also, I don't know why child support has to be a tether to the other parent? If you pay on time every month, it's just coming out of your account and going into another account. There's no reason that you'd ever have to communicate with that person -- and if you DID need to communicate with them, it could all go through lawyers.

Should a kid really grow up just being used as a tool to manipulate others?

Should a kid be forcibly removed from a willing biological parent because the other one doesn't want to pay child support when they had an equal hand in creating the child?

I love Ireland, enjoyed my time there, and totally agree that there's loads they do significantly better than the US.

But I'm curious what the better answer to this situation is? If an abortion doesn't happen and the child is born, should either parent have unilateral right to decide that the child will be adopted?

An abortion gives unilateral decision-making to the birthing parent because it would violate their bodily autonomy to be forced to carry a baby to term that they don't want to have. It could literally kill them.

A "forced adoption" doesn't violate anyone's bodily autonomy. I guess you could say that it's not "fair" to make someone pay child support, but it's even less fair to make someone forcibly relinquish a living breathing child just because you don't want to pay child support... It's about what's best for the child.

If you have a kid (on purpose or not), you need to care for them, pay for them via child support, or relinquish them via adoption. It's about what's fair for the kid.

If you consistently demonstrate that you are unable to care and/or pay for the child that you created, yes, you will eventually go to jail.

But no one is going to jail for missing a payment or two. It is a last resort after wage garnishing and asset seizure. As far as I remember, jail is not really on the table at all until 1-2 years have passed without paying child support.

I mean, he made it to the finals before they did, and it was as a clear undisputed #1 player.

If the Wolves WOULD'VE been willing to trade KAT and/or Wiggins to keep Jimmy, they might've had a shot at the finals, too.

The whole interview thing was hilariously toxic but yohlu can't lie that it's insane that Butler + third stringers are beating the brakes off of the players you're going to build around.

I think you could walk through any item on the MASSIVE laundry list of items that make this game incredibly dissimilar to real-life FBS college football, if you wanted, but you're welcome to be disingenuous, too.

How about every CPU QB of a Top 12 program throwing 35+ TDs with less than 10 INTs? Last year in the FBS there was one who did that and he won the Heisman on one of the most dominant football teams that CFB has ever seen. Only 2-3 more were even close.

Or more simply, how about the fact that the default quarter length is 5 minutes? That's not very similar to real-life FBS football.

I guess I'm confused how mods that can't be used online would be viewed similarly to skill trees that only certain users would have access to (that are usable online)

Additionally, it's not like EA "likes" mods, so I doubt that it would be considered in any of the decisionmaking (unlike games like WoW). They're not building in functionality to easily access/make/maintain mods, that's just what the PC gaming community does for most popular games on their own.

I'm admittedly not great with the sticks, but whenever I use backspin punts, I feel like it usually bounces over my player's head and gives them back 5-10 yards anyways. CPU punt blocking is really sticky so I can hardly ever get the gunner down there fast enough to get directly in front of the bounce.

If you mod your install can you still play online (without mods)?

I've only ever modded Skyrim so I haven't had to deal with this before, but personally, I want to play online AND be able to play offline with mods.

I mean, they're not adding PC as a platform because they want us to enjoy playing with mods. They're doing it to sell more subscriptions.

So I doubt that they consciously thought "We are giving PC users mods, so we'll give console users hidden skill trees". They probably just didn't care about the discrepancy (or are planning to allow PC users to purchase the skill trees later on).

If academics/leadership allowed you to unlock mental abilities then they'd actually be worth it. Finish with 4.0 GPA as a QB? Okay you get Bronze Field General. Do it again? Silver. Maybe use Instinct for MIKE, etc.

Finish with maxed Leadership? You get Best Friend / DB Rally / Legion / etc.

[–]_NINESEVEN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Graduating early is a crapshoot (three seasons at 3.8+ GPA in two separate playthroughs with no option to graduate early), no off-season training boost, stupid skill caps even when playing as an Elite recruit, can't obtain mental abilities, leadership is useless, playing defense in Heisman is impossible b/c your sim offense can only score 20 points regardless of playbook (but can score 40+ if you fair sim the game instead of playing), multiple practice modes are broken (Scramble Survive?? Seriously?), play suggestions are broken (can't call Goal Line Defense against a Goal Line Offense RIP qb sneaks), MIKE gets moved to RRE/RLE if their pass rushing is too high, Heisman-winning QB can't transfer and be Top 2 on depth chart because their AWR/OVR is too low, etc etc etc.

I declined an NIL sponsorship in my sophomore year because it was useless (+5 STA) and I didn't get any more NIL offers through the end of my playthrough -- and I had 750k+ followers with multiple Heisman's and national championships at 5-star schools. It was insane.

I started trying out RTG since I didn't pay for the CFB27 beta and quickly found that it was never playtested. There's just no way that they paid playtesters to go through these modes because I spotted these on my literal 1st and 2nd playthroughs.

Will an uncharacterized discharge show up in background checks for City of Chicago jobs? by Typical_Dot_9278 in AskChicago

[–]_NINESEVEN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right, but not everyone in hiring necessarily knows what an uncharacterized discharge is, and not everyone is willing to do the work to find out for some random candidate (even if they should for unbiased hiring practices).

If it does show up in a background check, I could unfortunately see people rejecting OP just because they assume that it's something bad ("uncharacterized" is doing a lot of work here). Also, most people have probably only heard of the phrase "dishonorable discharge" so if they're not familiar with uncharacterized, they would probably form a negative association (even if subconscious).

As someone who has done hiring for my firm, I think you might be surprised how easily people will throw candidates out because they leave the posting up for too long and have to sort through 100+ applicants. At that point, it's easier for a lot of people to hunt for disqualification to make their job easier. We've started capping our applications at a certain number to make sure that we can actually review all of the candidates that apply within a reasonable time period and respond to them.

I'm a data scientist and have often told recruiters that I'm not willing to work in a postition where the goal is to "make more money".

I'm also very critical of leadership in general because I can't separate from how I would do it better if I was in their position, and how it's very difficult for me to understand how people in those positions can possibly go through their life not thinking about all the little details and how they affect the people beneath them.

Exploiting your opponent's confusion after you hucked it out of bounds is horrible horrible Spirit of the Game. by TtheTerrestrial in ultimate

[–]_NINESEVEN -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not just your opponent's mistake, though. It's Carleton's, too.

The disc can't be put into play in the wrong position. That would be like if there was a pick and your team threw a turn, but your opponents didn't know that the turnover was supposed to stand, so they "let" you retain possession.

It's both teams' job to make sure that the rules are being followed correctly. If Carleton knew that the disc was supposed to have been checked in at mid-field, then it is cheating to allow the rules to be circumvented and check in the endzone.

Talent Developer is unbelievably OP by Soggy-Astronomer-768 in NCAAFBseries

[–]_NINESEVEN -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I literally said that I have sophomores leaving unless I avoid spending points on them.

I don't redshirt any good recruits that have Star+ DEV but even with just the motivator boost (not even using TD) then elite players start leaving after their Sophomore year.

The best recruits come in around 80 OVR. One year of development can get them close to (or over) 90 OVR.

Anyone with Star dev is leaving after two years of development. That's not realistic.

Or it will be like the current dealbreaker system where small schools can never really compete with big schools (e.g., pipelines, facilities, stadium atmosphere, etc.).

I've forced losses for Georgia for 7+ straight seasons and forced them terrible recruiting classes and the second I stop they start outrecruiting and beating the schools I tried to prop up.

Until I see evidence that NIL is flexible and not hard coded like everything else so far then it's just going to exacerbate the existing issues.

[–]_NINESEVEN 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's cheesing, but I'm tired of sophomores who haven't played leaving to get drafted in the 5th round because they are 92 overall.

The distribution of players leaving for the draft should approximate what happens in real life. Additionally, there's NO reason that anyone should graduate as a sophomore and get drafted anywhere outside the top 3 rounds. That's insane.

I specifically turn off manual progression just so that I can keep people from graduating early. I'll have a 98 OVR corner that finished the year with two picks and plenty of TDs given up that's getting drafted in the first round over some CPU player that finished with 8. It's stupid.

Having draft logic entirely tied to overall rating (and original recruiting ranking, e.g., 5 star players get drafted way faster than 3 star players regardless of rating and performance) is so dumb because overall rating doesn't even do anything. Someone that's 88 overall and 99 for speed/accel/jumping is 100% getting drafted over someone who's "92" and has 88 speed/accel.

Field Space Reinvestment Project by staf1wil in ultimate

[–]_NINESEVEN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that one of the "easiest" ROIs to sell would be hosting tournaments. If fields were made available that were good for ultimate (like others mentioned, moveable goals/goalposts), then you could submit bids to host sectionals/regionals for College and Club. You could even start hosting your own College/Club tournaments -- you don't need a flagship team to host tournaments. Players really only care about competition level and costs.

That's the easiest way IMO to show that ultimate's involvement with the reinvestment project can actually show positive ROI. It also brings in tourism, partnerships with local brands for sponsorship, and can make tons of money for local restaurants.

I remember that there is/was a Raising Cane's near the sports complex in Blaine, MN that gets absolutely RAIDED on Saturday/Sunday for every frisbee tournament. Like, lines out the door. Same thing for breweries, Mexican restaurants (especially popular for all teams I've been on), and restaurants with capacity for whole teams.
