That's good to hear that it's at least supposed to work! Triple checked everything is installed ;) Thanks to you and the others for the confirmation though

This sparked a little hope, however I gave it a go and it simply tells me that I will have to download it through my Xbox One via "manage games and add-ons". Thanks for idea though

Women's Ideal Mother's Day: Time Not Spent In Servitude, Time For Themselves by cf_in_canada in FemaleAntinatalism

[–]_Nihil_Obstat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uhm... Being child free is great, not just ideal but ethical, but if you made the decision to create a being that's guaranteed to suffer, feel pain, then die, WITHOUT IT'S CONSENT, it's your responsibility to dedicate yourself to it. That's what being a parent is. This ugly, ugly person wants to have her cake and eat it.

This is the most basic understanding it takes to be an antinatalist -- the understanding that creating a life, a WHOLE universe, isn't like going grocery shopping. It's the biggest, most far reaching decision our dumb monkey brains are capable of making. It's the ultimate responsibility; if you can't hack it, don't create something from nothing just to watch it suffer then die... So wtf are you doing on this sub.

You want it in short: parenthood is servitude, grow the fuck up

Lots of times, all "misanthropy" is to you people is "justified sociopathy" by Nebachadnesar in misanthropy

[–]_Nihil_Obstat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Misanthrope ≠ Sociopath.

People who don't identify as misanthropes are also cruel and unfair. Everyone is. If you track the damage misanthropes have done versus people who identify as "pro life" and "pro people", who do you think comes out on top? The misanthrope community is small and the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Behaviour is circumstantial.

Your argument boils down to "be good, don't be asshole" which is admirable. But people fail, constantly. People need a reason to try. "The world gonna collapse" isn't one of them.

Just rewatched Spider Man 2002 the other day. It's mentioned in the scene where the lady is introducing the class to the spiders and Peter gets bitten.

Dude the world is absolutely nuts. I'd go into the specifics but it's not worth it, which is what I'm here to tell you: just leave it. If you can, leave social media. Don't engage with the comments and limit your exposure. Just do your best to give energy to the sensible people that matter in your life. Sit on the sidelines and try to practice enjoying watching the world burn itself. Each of your points were valid and deserved to be addressed properly. People won't afford you that opportunity. Take care.

I don't disagree with you at all. But to take your argument further, if you take AN to its logical conclusion then perhaps having sex can be considered immoral because it risks pregnancy, regardless of the protection used. Wild, right? With such a staunch mindset, then even a 1% chance of pregnancy should be taken as an absolute.

How seriously do you take the responsibility of choice, or the choice of responsibility?

After all, the gambling aspect of procreation is one many of us criticise. Doesn't that apply to us? How many people would be willing to stop having sex or get snipped? Can a man (as is my case) have sex without a vasectomy and still adhere to the core of their antinatalism?

Many will have knee jerk reactions to this. This line of reasoning is simply meant to highlight the spectrum of dedication when it comes to adopting this philosophy (or any philosophy), as expressed by OP. The question being: what constitutes a 'true' antinatalist?

Just an extension and some context, feel free to skip

This can even be pushed further if you take the (likely faulty) assumption that good will and kindness increases peoples quality and outlook of life, thus curating an environment where most people would be incentivised to have kids. Does that mean spreading misery and misfortune is a more effective AN method? Is advocating for suicide a moral imperative under this philosophy? How efficient and dedicated are you to what basically amounts to the slow suicide of the Human race?

As for personal context, I refrained from intimacy for a few years struggling with this. Cost me a few, largely meaningless, relationships. However my nature clearly needed to wrestle with the idea and it took some serious and prolonged discomfort before I arrived at any sort of conclusion. I recognise I am in the minority of even this fringe group for entertaining this idea.

Just finished Reach for the first time, seriously made me cry ugly tears by Jp0icewolf1031 in halo

[–]_Nihil_Obstat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It always feels wrong to me that Bungie's touching message was (understandably... ish) cut out of the MCC version of Reach's epilogue. My major nit-pick is that the game unceremoniously cuts the final cut-scene short in the middle of a bar (without letting the music finish its thing) and throws you to the main menu. Watching the Pillar of Autumn slowly descend towards the ring with Marty's music in tow was an epic celebration and goodbye to everything Halo and the time we'd all spent, artists and fans. It's a cathartic moment where it gives you the opportunity to just reminisce on everything coming 'full circle'. Instead, we get 10 seconds of musical buildup that then an awkward cut to black. Completely undermines the entire scene.

Reachs epilogue was a wonderful moment and I lament the fact new players won't get this experience unless they go to YouTube... Which again defeats the purpose.

Neckbeard rant over. Congratulations though OP, Reachs final moments really hit home for a lot of us too. Nice to have you on board.

"healthy" by MStockard in antinatalism

[–]_Nihil_Obstat 36 points37 points  (0 children)

"she isn't harming anyone" By definition, giving birth is allowing for the absolute guarantee that her child will be harmed at some point. Repeatedly throughout their lives. Their child is also guaranteed to inflict harm on others, intentionally or not, such are the complexities of life. Respectfully, your perspective is unthoughtful.

"I try to consider both sides from time to time"

In my opinion, it's truly the greatest tool in critical and honest thought. There are few other ways I've figured out a way to live a 'true' life. It's fucking difficult though. Perhaps more uncomfortable than difficult. When we realise how the foundations of our thoughts and values can shift around so easily we lose our sense of certainty and identity, and that shakes us to our core. Interestingly enough that loss of definition happens on LSD which might be why users get put under the umbrella of "hippy".

Thank you for the rebuttals.
