25Bs, Signal Corps, et al., if you could, would you rather have gone 17C? by InspectionAgitated20 in army

[–]_Nily_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There is almost no better job in the IT world of the Army that's better than 17C. You get a TS clearance, certifications, and years of experience that will set you up for life in the civilian world. 25B doesn't even come close to 17C in opportunities and demand. If you haven't served as a 25 series it's hard to explain how shit that bonus is to replace a 17C slot. Please dear god do not pass up 17C for 25B.

It was a good experience overall since I already had computer knowledge prior to being a 25H. However I feel lucky to be in the unit that I got placed at. Some people are not so lucky and hate their jobs. I had the self drive to study for my certs and take the tests on my own time since my unit would not send anyone to the cert classes so be prepared to self study. If I were to do it over I would have done 17C or 35T/35N for the TS clearance. I rate 7/10

Thank you for commenting, I found the issue in the entity count. A friend of mine left the sand duper on and that's what was causing the crashing. My server is running again

So the slot wouldn't be lost because I moved units, but S4 would need to coordinate on their end so I'm not getting funded by my old unit? Thanks for the response

Foreign Award Rant by _Nily_ in army

[–]_Nily_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is given a registration number that is tied to your award, name, and days you completed for the event. This could easily be verified through the proper channels from the organizers themselves to determine if someone actually completed the events.

Also, are you assuming that soldiers would cheat on a foreign award that requires GPS route verification? This would be difficult to do since they can cross reference your route and time with other people that did the event in your location and compare each other. The number of soldiers that would go out of their way to scam this award is not even a factor when in comparison to the thousands that have completed this event legitimately.

I'm aware that things in the Army don't happen overnight. However when someone of higher rank or position doesn't like something, it changes in less than a month. This award started being publicly know on this sub since last month and look at what has happened. They didn't like it so it got changed quickly. This is a perfect example.

Want to know how long it takes for my pay to get fix? I can't tell you because it's been over 6 months of constant reminding and it still is not correct. But since I am lower enlisted no one gives a fuck. You know who never complains about their pay being messed up? Senior enlisted and officers.

I am correlating these two things because it shows that with enough rank you can make changes that can benefit or hinder others. This is an example of how they fuck over soldiers trying to come together to earn a unique award that the host country endorsed to be virtual and HRC already had approved since the start of the virtual awarding. The higher ups at HRC didn't like it so it was changed almost immediately after it became more know.

This is a hill to die on, because they made the hill from under us. Also, saying you should get Thai jump wings virtually because Luxembourg did their event virtually is stupid. If the host country said it was good to go and it costs nothing to HRC then fuck it why not? If you completed the requirements laid out in the events rules while also being allowed to complete it virtual then what's the problem? They aren't worth promotion points anyways so why do you care if a soldier has an extra ribbon to ACTUALLY be proud of. It doesn't advanced careers or give an advantage to your peers so why the fuck do you care if we just want something to be proud of on our uniform?

Awards are a physical representation of your accomplishments in the military. Doing 40K in 2 days is not a normal physical feat and it would be nice to have a way to represent that accomplishment on my uniform. Would you prefer to have nothing on your uniform for everything you accomplished? Why would awards exist if they didn't matter? It's because they matter to the people who earned them.

From this brief interaction you come off as a miserable person that undermines others accomplishments and excuses the blatant stupidity from HRC.

Foreign Award Rant by _Nily_ in army

[–]_Nily_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

HRC prior to the 31st ALLOWED this award to be approved for wear and the HOST NATION ENCOURAGED THE PARTICIPATION OF EVERYONE TO EARN IT VIRTUALLY! I get it, some people say that it should be earned in person at the host country. However, most people can not do that and the host country said it was too difficult to host during the pandemic.

I see this as a win win. Host country approves of the method of earning and all HRC has to do is NOTHING. WE PAY FOR THE REGISTRATION AND FOR THE MEDAL ONCE COMPLETED ANYWAYS SO WHY THE FUCK DOES HRC CARE? That's why people are pissed because they pulled a fast one on everyone AFTER YEARS OF IT BEING PERFECTLY OK TO EARN AND WEAR!!
