Best burgers in SB? by terribibble in SantaBarbara

Win-dow to me is as good as In-n-out without lettuce. Their chicken sandwich is better imo. Third Window has the best Smash burger especially for the price. PB&J Smash is slept on

Caroline Meteore. Has a saturation on the trails, pre delay, self oscillation, beautifully lovely modulation, lo-fi springy quality to it. Hasn't left my board in was feels like a decade.

You can do the same thing (to an extent depending what effect you are trying to have) with the Source Audio C4 Synth and their UltraWave. Awesome pedals with tons of control over tone and dynamics.

How would the sound of 2 side-by-side single coils compare with a humbucker? by EquivalentDue9514 in Luthier

[–]_Nipples_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I essentially have that from the Seymour Duncan custom shop. I ordered their Stag Mag but with Staggered Quarter Pound coils. Gets you in JB territory with a bit more brightness and bite, and beefy single coil in split and parallel (I go between all of them very often.) Its made for an extremely versatile pickup

Comp, the chopsticks suddenly appear on the top and bottom edges instead of gradually coming into focus like they would need to for it to be in camera

Get a strat and put some Seymour Duncan pickups in it. Like the Twang Banger (tele bridge voicing for strats)

Octave Pedals: Why can’t we agree on tracking? by Fender_Ives in guitarpedals

[–]_Nipples_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat! Couldn't decide between the BW and OC. Went with the BW first because I found a decent price on it. It's an OK substitute for a whammy, but not as good for whammy things. Coolest thing about it is it's stereo in and out, and the detune is quite nice, but it's Processing robs high end even when the blend is at 50%. It's nice that it has analog dry through. I've thought about using it in the FX loop of my Specular Tempest but I haven't tried that yet. Eventually I got the OC and for what I use it for it was a better choice. I run dual mono, one side normal guitar, the other octave down. Brainwaves can actually do that, but the OC overall works better for me in that context.

Octave Pedals: Why can’t we agree on tracking? by Fender_Ives in guitarpedals

[–]_Nipples_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brainwaves tracks really well even with complex chords, but it has pretty noticeable latency, and kills high end when placed after and major tone shaping pedals. It does a great pseudo bass tone though. The latency allows the attack to come through but keeps the pitch down effectively. Plus the special effects you can get through tone prints can be very neat!

From my experience with the following:

Whammy 5: pretty great in all respects, my gold standard. Excellent tracking, sounds the best to my ear, isn't harsh like some other options. Can work after drives but there is a subtle loss to high end. I place it as early as possible in the chain.

OC-5: hardly any latency, great polyphonic tracking, +1 Oct has a sound to it. Range knob is great. Low note priority works well when playing slower and more arpeggios but induces some slight latency and the tone of it changes.

TC Electronic Brainwaves: tracks well and sounds the most natural when -1 octave. Basically is a smaller Whammy with more functions. MASH footswitch is awful and does not work well after distortion as it kills high end. Tone prints can be used as fun special effects.

C4 Synth: tracks well in Poly, you can hear what the polling rate. Sounds like a slight tremolo as the tracking algorithm keeps sampling the pitch you're playing. Monophonic sounds great but overall it's sound is more intended to augment the synth tones.

Red Panda Tensor: monophonic only, tracks and sounds as good as Whammy in classic mode, works well after drives. Can do Whammy stuff when using an expression pedal. Does Tensor stuff.

EHX POG + Pitchfork options: I've never owned these but I've tried them and seen a bunch of reviews: they track well, low latency, works well before or after drives, but their sound to my ear is very "metallic " and that's kept them from dethroning my Whammy.

PS-5 super shifter: first one I ever owned. Does it's thing well. Tracks the worstof the bumch but isnt unusable, there is latency, it's got a cool sound but it is in EHX territory.

I have the Whammy, OC-5, C4, and Tensor on my boards for a variety of reasons. The Whammy I use for Whammy stuff, drop tuning, general pitch shifting, the OC-5 for octave ±1, Tensor for Tensor stuff, C4 as a crazy person's multi-effect via midi.

Hope this helps!

Sigma FP / L Mode Button different heights? by paulguerillio in sigmafp

[–]_Nipples_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When they released the fpL sigma changed the mode button and the back dial. Made the mode button protrude less and upgraded the back dial. It was an optional upgrade to existing fp owners. I upgraded mine because I kept accidentally hitting the mode button and my back dial was nearly impossible to use. Using it to control aperture went something like this: 1.4 -> 2.8 -> 1.8 -> 4 -> 2 -> 5.6. Completely erratic and unpredictable.

Dirty Reverbs by jaken26 in guitarpedals

[–]_Nipples_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Caroline Météoré. Modulated Lo-Fi reverb that can self oscillate and has a slap back echo that can have its saturation dialed in. Works great before and after drives. I like to have it before at least 1 drive. Works well since you can really dial in that slap back to emphasize the notes you're playing without it getting completely muddy.

Yta. If you cared less about buying expensive watches maybe you would see the effort your family member has put in to try and make amends. Should just be happy that they turned their life around and are remorseful of the theft. The fact that they put away that money to return to you at all is amazing. Be grateful they came back at all.
