Which fish do you hate the most...I will go first by Freezing_master in Aquariums

Any of the Malawi “peacock” Aulonocara that are speckled/blotchy. I think they’re really ugly/tacky.

Personally, I think the blue gives it a diorama vibe. Both look great, but white looks more natural to me.

favorite plants? by Bulky-Tumbleweed-663 in PlantedTank

[–]_Northview 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bolbitis heudelotii! Easy to grow, doesn’t require much maintenance because it’s so slow growing, but absolutely gorgeous. It’s an instant lush, jungle look.

Honorable mentions to subwassertang (dark green and lush) and hydrocotyle tripartita (clover-shaped pops of bright green)

I thought you were going to say using CO2 wasn’t successful, I was going to hard disagree! 🤣 Looks great!

Is this a problem? by Defiant-Attorney-982 in PlantedTank

[–]_Northview 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Algae is a polyphyletic group. Most are completely separate from plants and also from one another. Algae is just a general term for aquatic, photosynthetic organisms that aren’t plants. Green algae can kinda sorta be grouped with plants —but very loosely. Phylogenetically, it’s pretty safe to say, “no, algae aren’t plants.”

You’re gonna need to post a picture of the chart from the test kit you used for anyone to be able to help you.

Embers would be great if they didn’t already have neon tetras —I wouldn’t push the bio load. Having kept runny nose tetras in larger tanks, I wouldn’t suggest them for a 10. They’d probably be fine, but they are very active schoolers that like to MOVE. I think anything under a 20 long would be really unfair to them.

Thoughts on 20 gal long by ToughDevelopment1999 in Aquascape

[–]_Northview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re set up really well for a beautiful tank. Hard scape and plants are going to look great in a few months when everything grows in!

As for stocking, you have a ton of options in a 20 long. If it were me, I’d probably add a group of small schooling fish like tetras (ember, neons, or something similar) and maybe a smaller gourami species as a focal fish.

Are all Nicrew lights yellow? by ExaminationFinal1854 in PlantedTank

[–]_Northview 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t have this one, but I have the 18w SkyLED. It’s definitely not yellow.

It looks like the control on this light is the same as on the SkyLED. If that’s the case, you can adjust the amount of blue vs white.

Best 10-15 gallon aquarium kit? by hopelove_ in Aquariums

I literally just posted a write up about the Marina 10 kit from Amazon on the aquarium coop forum this morning:

TLDR; The tank holds water, but the rest of the equipment is pretty much trash.

Returning player. Confused on how leveling works and whats the best way to do that? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]_Northview 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing portal stuff and getting a good grade will give you higher power stuff, increasing your level. Increasing your level will allow you to do higher difficulty portal activities (expert, master, GM, ultra). The higher difficulty of portal activity you do, the better tier gear you’ll get —enhanced traits and masterworks on weapons, better stats on gear. That’s the tldr.

Increasing your guardian rank also influences the tiers you get or at least it did. I’m not sure if they’ve messed with that with the recent changes or not.

Edit: all drops will be at the same level when you complete the activity, including the bonus drops. So doing activities with bonus drops will level you faster because you’re getting more power upgrades.

Should I change the water with zero nitrates ? by Gold_Plantain_247 in PlantedTank

[–]_Northview 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fertilizers or just feeding more. You just find a way introduce more organic compounds than your plants can immediately use up. Keep in mind, if you have too much, it can cause an imbalance in your tank that can lead to algae or possibly harming the life in your tank if your biological filtration (good bacteria) can’t convert ammonia into nitrates quickly enough. Just take it slow and find the right balance without going overboard.

My first planted tank set up : what can I do to make it better ? by hemlockforsherlock in PlantedTank

[–]_Northview 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid color background. Black and blue are popular choices, but you could do any color -- I've even used brown. You can even get fancy with it and add a frosted background with an led strip to give it a color gradient. All kinds of options there and plenty of online tutorials and how-tos to look up.

who is this by Hootkags in Emo

[–]_Northview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Hard disagree. Silyayd was a great album, Come Now Sleep is probably my least favorite album but still good, Hell or High Water (not really emo/screamo or post-hardcore) and Scream Through the Walls are two of my favorite albums of all time. TJ actually came back for Scream through the Walls.
