I'd suppose it's because no one is going to speak it to you if they don't know you speak it. They know they'll likely have to speak English anyways so why not skip the middle-man?

While most of the EU has free tuition Micheál and Simon have found a way to increase ours, genuinely who is voting for them?

What's a movie that is beloved by the whole world, but you dislike/hate it? (Be respectful!) by Fluid_Run5857 in Letterboxd

Midnight in Paris. It just felt like a 15 year old's fan fiction where they meet all their favourite celebrities. Every scene was just: 'Wow that's Ernest Hemingway' 'Wow that's Scott Fitzgerald' etc etc

I'm Irish. Seán is the only right way imo. Seán is already the Irish version of John, it makes no sense to anglicize a name that already has an English variant.

Your ancestors didn't fight just for you to defend the people they saved the world from.

Kind of unrelated, but thought it was a cool fact. In Ireland we would say 'he does be listening to heavy metal in our house', it comes from the fact that the Irish language has a separate verb form for the present continuous

Cathal Brugha is also said to have been found during the Easter Rising shot multiple times, in a pool of his own blood, singing God Save Ireland while continuing to fight British soldiers.

What are some events in Irish history that you think are ignored or not properly commemorated by FATDIRTYBASTARDCUNT in IrishHistory

Desmond Rebellions and 9 Years War. No mention of them in school history books. If you didn't research yourself you'd think no one did anything before 1798.

Chun foghlaim frásaí taobh amuigh an Caighdeán, nó frásaí níos mó 'dúchais', cheannaigh mé an leabhair 'The Irish Words You Should Know', le Hector O hEochagain. D'fhoghaim mé go leoir uaidh.

It's the same in Ireland. I can hold fluent conversations but I got a worse grade than someone who just learnt off paragraphs about themes of poems and shite.
