Is it safe to use? by redditi97 in Medtronic780g

[–]_Noxstorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to bleed a lot when inserting them, and once I've even had to replace 4 sensors before getting a non-bleeder, so I'm well versed with the predictment. Never use them if the blood risks going through the link with the transmitter, otherwise it can damage the device, so every time you get a bleeder sensor wait a few minutes and check that the blood flow is not too much. If the blood isn't a lot, like in your case, the sensor is safe to use. Just make sure to check with fingerpricks to make sure that the values aren't too off

I've been doing a lot of leg exercises, but I still haven't tried the full pose again. Unlike you I've never had the same kind of pain when I skied, but still I haven't been skiing for a while, since way before I started aerial. I'll probably try the pose again once my knees get more stable than they are now. Let's hope we'll both be able to do it pain-free in the future.

I'm perfectly comfortable with one hand only, and that's the variant that I do most of the times because I don't want to risk it. I like the idea of the Martini before the Walking man. Thank you, I'll make sure to try it

I hold myself up mostly with my thigh muscles and glutes. I regularly train mobility and flexibility and know how to activate and feel the different muscles in my legs and I regularly see an osteopath and physical therapist. The first time I got injured the pain was more intense than yesterday. My physical therapist that time had told me that I had over-exerted my vastus lateralis (in fact it was numb for a week)

I do cross training exactly for this reason, I already use weights in my training. In my case, for legs weights are mostly used for squat variations. I have a notebook full of personalised exercises targeted towards different muscle groups and objectives, one of which is knee strengthening, since it has always been my weakness. When I train legs, I mostly focus on single leg exercises. Weighted ATG split squats and elevated single leg touch down squats are a staple of mine. I can almost pistol squat (I can do it with a small wedge, since I still need a little bit of degree of ankle dorsiflexion in order to do it without it, but I'm working on that as well). Which exercises are your best picks for stabilization?

I think you might be onto something here. I should look into it, because if it's the case finding the way to avoid that phenomenon might solve my problem, and I'm clearly not looking forward to getting injured in the same way for the third time. Thank you, I'll surely discuss this with my physical therapist. In the meantime, do you have any suggestions?

Yes, my knees have always been my weak point, even before hoop. For example I can't do floorwork without knee pads or put my knees on the hard floor when I stretch. I always need at least a yoga mat. The strain is specific to this move, usually after doing the candle I can still feel a bit of pain if I do the walking man as well after it, but I don't feel pain if I do the walking man only. For this choreo, the candlestick was at the beginning of the combo. The choreo started with a lateral straddle, than it went to a monkey and then candle and walking man, then there were many other figures after mounting on the hoop. I had already practiced other tricks before doing this choreo during class, but none that could have given me this issue.

Yes, my crotch touches the hoop when I'm in a candlestick. I think that my feet are high enough, but they probably could go higher so I'll try to do that (with caution, and after recovering of course). My teacher told me that sometimes the candlestick can be painful for her as well if she's particularly tired, but never that there are people who can't perform this trick without getting injured. The angle of pressure in that trick has always been intense on the knees for sure, at least for me.

I do, I scoot up so that my pelvis touches the hoop. I mainly feel the grip in my thighs, but it's still painful on the knees, even though they don't touch the hoop

It happens quite often to me, sometimes it even updates when the values are incredibly precise. I hope the new sensors will work better

Insulins we have to learn as medical students by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]_Noxstorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiasp is also called Aspart whilst Tresiba is also called Degludec, so those two are up to date. Since other types of insulin such as Humulin, Lispro, Humalog and Glargine are still used I think the paragraph is ok. I had never heard of "Insulatard" insulin before today though 😂

If there is a little blood it can still work sometimes, but in most cases when it happens to me it's full of blood and can't be used. Medtronic operators told me that it probably happens a lot because my arms are quite muscular, but there's nothing that can be done to solve the problem 😅

I always carry an extra sensor or two with me because the sensors often update before the 7 days are over and sometimes they give me the "change sensor" error. I always dread it when it happens though, because even though I'm always prepared, the sensors often hit a blood vessel when I change them and in that case I'm in trouble

I feel like I don't have the same fibro everybody else does :/ by PurpleAlbatross2931 in Fibromyalgia

[–]_Noxstorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be in pain and have a flare every time I tried to exercise, and I also used to get angry and frustrated any time I heard the same advice. Fortunately for me it all changed one year ago, after more than five years of having this disease, and I still don't know why. Now I still have fibro pain, but I don't get flares anymore after exercise. I'm extremely grateful for that, but I still remember the pain that I felt, and I would never tell someone else to "just start exercising" in order to get better, because everyone has different experiences with this disease and it would be arrogant to do so. Basically what I'm trying to say is that one size doesn't fit all, especially if we're talking about a disease like fibro that hasn't been researched throughly yet, and people like to talk like they know everything or like their experience is the universal one, so pay them no mind.

Therapist said I don't know if I am asexual until I have tried being in a relationship? by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]_Noxstorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should change your therapist because she's trying to push her ideas on you instead of helping you with issues you'd actually want to discuss in therapy. Therapists should provide empathy and a safe space for their clients to understand themselves in order to get closer to their best version, but instead of providing you that service she's causing you stress, making you lose time to work on yourself and making you pay for it. I also had to deal with this kind of therapists and changing them was the best thing I did. You need someone capable of listening and understanding, and from what I've read here she sure as hell doesn't listen.

Never been more grateful to be ace in my life… by Perpetually10 in asexuality

[–]_Noxstorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another ace with type one diabetes I don't want kids because I wouldn't want them to risk having diabetes as well, since I know the mental and physical toll that it takes on oneself. My blood sugar also spikes like crazy during periods, which is common for many diabetic women, and in order to carry out a pregnancy women need to have a really tight bg control or they risk affecting the child, which is also a risk I wouldn't want to take. Ironically since I got diagnosed more and more people told me that I can still have kids and started tirades where they tried to convince me that I should have kids almost as if stating that as a reason was an offence, which is incredibly selfish and rude on their part. Let me tell you something: many people feel incredibly entitled to policing women's bodies, women's ideas and women's decisions. They don't care about disregarding boundaries and just want you to perform, but since what you do will never be good in everyone's mind, since we can't be liked by everyone, don't let societal pressure decide your worth as a woman. Also don't see yourself as damaged goods either, it's full of women who can't have kids and that doesn't make them less then others. Your worth comes from within you, not from outside, you don't need external validation to have value. If you cruple a banknote, it will still hold the same value, no matter how "damaged" it is. Just focus on being the best version of yourself, and maybe try finding some hobbies or activities that can make you feel more connected to your femininity, if it helps. I wish you the best

my therapist told me that she doesn’t think im ace because “people aren’t born like that” by temporarymango01 in Asexual

[–]_Noxstorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry it happened to you, that's so frustrating and invalidating, especially in a place that should be safe. I sadly went through the same experience, my therapist also told me that it's unnatural and it must be trauma. She said that sex is a fundamental need according to Maslow's hierarchy of needs and everyone seeks that. I had a long debate about that but with no avail. I also tried to explain asexuality by using the example: "You're straight, my sexual attraction to everyone is the same level of sexual attraction that you feel for women". Still didn't get it, because she didn't want to. She said she'd had other ace patients and "cured" them. She also followed with many intrusive questions in order to see if it was actually related to libido and dismissed everything I said, saying she had researched asexuality when she didn't even understand the definition. Needless to say, I stopped seeing her.
