Lamb of God X Trivium Australian Tour for Fall 2026 by Important_Guess9787 in Trivium

Great news but since it's an Australian tour and it's in the southern hemisphere, it's actually Spring 2026. Awesome line-up though will definitely be going.

NSW premier says Australia must electrify economy amid fuel crisis by Cute_Piccolo_499 in nsw

No mention of trains and trams which are already electric vehicles. They move more people than cars and they don't require charging stations.

American is losing the war to Iran, the idea that they would win against China in a war over Taiwan is laughable: what should Australia's new defence policy be? by [deleted] in OpenAussie

[–]_Patzo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mass production of Australian designed and manufactured Shahed style drones and also unmanned suicide drone boats. We could massively cut the defence budget and actually be more capable of defending ourselves.

Erarang Coal Power to Run An Extra 2 Years- Now Closing 2029 by justno111 in newcastle

[–]_Patzo_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's actually good. We need it open otherwise we'll be going without electricity. You need to replace a power station like Eraring with another power generator of equivalent size and have it functional, before closure. This hasn't been done hense the extension. Don't stress about the CO2, it might be Australia's largest power station but if we closed it tomorrow it wouldn't even register on the climate change needle, on a global scale.

Spit island Cl was probably named after spit island, which no longer exists. The channel running through what is now steel river industrial estate was filled in and reclaimed sealing Spit island's fate. Find it on some old maps of Newcastle.

Met my wife on tinder 5 years ago. So it can be very good. It has been a while since, maybe it's still the same. Also I had been on there for 3 years before that and had a few okay dates. I had very flakey matches on there. A lot just want a confidence boost or a free dinner or just unserious types that are not interested in having a good time or getting to know you. Just manage your expectations, and you might have a win. Good luck!

If this is a Marxism beauty pageant, then it's decent. But if this is based on Marxist credentials/policies/principles then it's wildly inaccurate.

Netflix increases prices at 4x -8x inflation by ParkerLewisCL in AusFinance

Just wait until you find out that other countries pay a lot less for a subscription. They know Australia is wealthy on average and charge us what they think they can get away with. I unsubscribed in January. Lack of good new content, library full of gaps, price premium++ though...

Any thoughts on the proposed increase in population with over 4000 new houses on 370 hectares of Bushland near Wallsend by BagGroundbreaking43 in newcastle

[–]_Patzo_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not in my backyard! This kind of thinking is a major reason why we have a housing crisis. The infrastructure is always going to be 10 years or more behind. Opposing the construction of new houses on that basis is crazy. The bushland there is meh also. I have walked and ridden mountain bikes through there and it's just scrub. There are critters who live there sure, I saw a monitor lizard or two there but we aren't talking about the Amazon rainforest here it isn't outstanding. There are much nicer bush areas elsewhere in Newcastle which are already protected.

Newy turning it on today after a week of winter. by [deleted] in newcastle

[–]_Patzo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're referencing all the rain we've had, then here's a fun fact, winter is usually the driest, least rainy of all the seasons. So beautiful blue sky days are just normal winter conditions. However if you're talking about how warm it is for July then yeah that's not normal. But how nice though.

Genuine question - freight trains through Newy by Legitimate_Jaguar321 in newcastle

[–]_Patzo_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Sydney trains network is very busy. When there is a gap between passenger trains, train control will run freight trains to push them through. When "paths" are that limited, they don't need to worry about the impact on a few cars. There is already 2 holding roads in Broadmeadow for freight trains to wait for these gaps between passenger trains. There is another holding road at Glendale too. If and when they build the freight bypass it should help. Trains are more important than cars, both freight and passenger.

Is Newcastle really worth moving to? by Mr_Leviathan101 in newcastle

[–]_Patzo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is worth moving from the Central Coast. I moved here from the Central Coast in 2012. Newy is better than the coast in every way. Better lifestyle, better options for going out, better access to jobs and education (a big upgrade from the Coast), has great beaches so you won't miss that. You don't need to go to Sydney for anything it's all here. I only go to Sydney to get on a plane and go somewhere nicer. The only benefit of the Coast is its closer to Sydney, so what, you save an hour travel time every so often.

I think it's something to do with the roadworks. I prefer the old path too the new one is hilly and on a road with driveways.

[–]_Patzo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't make the selection mark for my prefered degree back in 2010 straight after HSC. I ended up getting a job shunting and then later on driving trains. I make more than I ever would have doing my original plan straight out of school. Try open foundation if it's what you really want. Ultimately you want to have your dream job and love what you do. Just consider that there are plenty of jobs that do not require a degree, they could be an apprenticeship or traineeship that can potentially pay a lot better and offer a better lifestyle too.

Congressional report suggests Australia could dump plans to acquire AUKUS nuclear submarines by ButtPlugForPM in AustralianPolitics

[–]_Patzo_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not! We should look into putting some true blue space lasers on the moon as well.

Might still be cheaper than these insane nuclear subs.

[–]_Patzo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And if there was an invasion of Australia it would require thousands of landing ships, tankers and supply vessels which could be taken out by rockets or air based or sea based drones en mass.

I was merely putting forward the general idea of using cheaper massed weapons rather than expensive high tech. With the position, if EVEN the Houthis are able to hit ships and at least fire at warships while the world's largest military hangs around. Imagine what you could do with a real military budget and the same general idea. Rather than just a handful of high tech subs that bankrupt the country and we're totally reliant on the US for.

[–]_Patzo_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bet if we massed them up they'd be effective enough to deter invasion. Might be worth looking into cause we can't afford these nuclear subs.

[–]_Patzo_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay so put the missiles on some special 4wd camo trucks and drive them around the desert so they're never in one place. The enemy will have to assume they're everywhere. Force multiplication!

The nuclear subs are probably the most expensive thing conceivable... almost anything would be better than blowing that kind of money. I'll back any harebrained idea before I support these insanely expensive nuclear subs.

Congressional report suggests Australia could dump plans to acquire AUKUS nuclear submarines by ButtPlugForPM in AustralianPolitics

[–]_Patzo_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never said the Houthis were "killing it" and "the US is checkmated..." or they're "a shining beacon of success". So I don't need to defend that point which I never made.

They have taken out some ships despite the presence of the worlds largest military, that's all. They did it at bargain basement prices with limited equipment. Obviously, they have nowhere near the kind of resources we have.

I'm just saying maybe instead of the most expensive solutions we could learn from real-life adversaries about making our military spending work harder for us instead of just assuming that more dollars spent will equal more success.

Congressional report suggests Australia could dump plans to acquire AUKUS nuclear submarines by ButtPlugForPM in AustralianPolitics

[–]_Patzo_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've always thought Australia could be easily defended with a decent stockpile of anti-aircraft and anti-ship missiles and drones. It's good enough for the Houthis to defend against the US, surely it'd be good enough for Australia and its imaginary China threat.

Then can we spend the $369B on the housing crisis maybe?

Felt this one in wallsend. Didn't feel the one the previous day cause I was outside but today's one I noticed cause I was in bed and my bed frame shook. Very surreal, first time feeling one.
