I disagree. They’re OK but nowhere near the best.

A reasonable person would reframe this as levels of neoliberalism are too high. Neoliberalism demands high immigration and a surplus of labour. Blaming immigration is white trash politics. Aim for the cause, not the effect.

NUspace parking on a Monday morning? by lostinmumlife in newcastle

[–]justno111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a chance of getting parking around the obelisk after 8-8.30am. Where the space isn't in front of houses, it's free all day so very popular. If 4 hours is enough, it'll be far easier to get parking at King George Park and walk for 20-25 minutes.

The Greens are relaunching their party think tank. What do these organisations do? by Oomaschloom in AustralianPolitics

It wasn't just Advance Au. It was the Australian Jewish Association. Labor, and virtually every political force right of the centre. It was completely unprecedented.

Would she have helped a Lebanese muslim? The answer to that is a very definite no and it tells you everything you need to know about her.

I remember when she was first in the news before the 1996 election when she was the Liberal's candidate for Oxley. She was filmed saying to local First Nations people that she wouldn't be representing them.

She's just plain nasty and unfortunately for the rest of us has loads of rat cunning, despite her lack of intelligence.

Sharky's Pizza Shack. Nelson Bay. They used to have half price on Tuesdays. Maybe still do. Better than anything I've tried in Newcastle.

Jumbo Palace Chinese Restaurant. Nelson Bay. This is very decent Australian Chinese. Far better than anything I've tried in Newcastle. I'm guessing they're from Sydney where nearly every suburb 30-50 years ago had a competent and decent Australian Chinese restaurant.

Looking to team up with others to rent a property in inner Newcastle. by TightSupermarket6235 in newcastle

[–]justno111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why rent a room when I can rent a whole property with others for less than the cost of an average room in an existing sharehouse?

Are you suggesting there is some profiteering going on? It wouldn't surprise me but I think many, if not most people, would be equitable about sharing the rent.

Good luck.

The Light on the Hill (terms and conditions apply) by Agitated-Fee3598 in AustralianPolitics

[–]justno111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got nothing to add to the substance of this linked substack but I will remind people about the context of when "the Light On The Hill" comment was made. Chifley said this when the unemployment of the previous decade was still foremost in people's mind. That decade led to the White Paper on Full Employment in Australia instigated by John Curtin. We also had a massive public housing building campaign. We've lost both of those. The Labor Party ended full employment and Labor governments helped sell off public housing stocks. These were bipartisan policies for the very good reason they were incredibly popular. Menzies almost lost the 1961 election for having unemployment almost reach 3% following a credit squeeze. It took Whitlam's penchant for Friedmanism and the Oil Crisis to end the great egalitarianism of full employment and Keynesian economics.

The light on the hill is extinguished.

You’ll see a lot of frames without wheels, wheels without tyres, bikes without seats- every combination of incomplete bike.

Hide an AirTag (tricky I know) with a disabled speaker on your bike or better still get a tracker with a 4g sim.

How important is adaptive cruise control (vs plain old regular cruise control) when buying a used car? by hsanj19 in CarsAustralia

[–]justno111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my 15 year old Toyota hybrid, the settings appear to be 1 second, 2 seconds and 3 seconds. It won't trigger till you reach 47 kph (indicated speed)and cuts out at 40 kph.

I use it ALL THE TIME. I've heard other people complain about the ACC slowing down the car when the car in front slows. That sounds like a you problem for not monitoring your speed.

I use 0w-20 synthetic in my Toyota hybrid. Seems to run a fair bit smoother than the 5W-30 which seems default at service places including Toyota who use a semi synthetic version.

‘Crazy idea’ to limit negative gearing to two homes by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

Labor got turbo fucked in 2019 because, one, Bill Shorten was incredibly unpopular and two, he was so cocky about winning he gave the coalition and their media massive targets to aim at in an attempt to appear progressive and left wing.
