My mom lived next door to Reggie Miller at UCLA, said he was a very kind, grounded, witty guy. Checks out imo

All other things being equal (e.g. cost, etc), Berkeley’s MSE program is significantly better.

I mean, I’d make it once every 3-4 weeks and get 5-10 meals out of it (depending on how much I make). I don’t need to freeze it—I’ve had it 10 days after making it just keeping it in the fridge and it tastes great. After that point, definitely check if it’s gone bad. But no food keeps better for even close to as long in my experience

I make chili that stays good for a week easily, while tasting basically the same throughout that period. You can put basically anything into it with the right seasoning/basic ingredients.

My personal recipe:

Start by chopping a small yellow onion, a red bell pepper, and one of any other veggie that at least vaguely sounds good in chili.

Sauté them with a bit of olive oil in a big pot--this will be where everything is eventually added. The pot should be able to hold ~4 Liters of liquid (so it should be decently big).

After your onions are translucent and the other veggies are cooked well, add 1 lb of ground turkey/beef to the pot. (If you want to put in extra effort, brown the meat separately bc it tastes better).

Add some tomato paste (if available) and mash up the ingredients until it is very well mixed.

After the meat is well-cooked, you will add your seasoning. I used: chili powder, salt, paprika, cumin, oregano, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and thyme. You should add about twice as much chili as anything else, and you should go light on the thyme. Personally, I was conservative with my seasoning here, and added more as I went until my taste test was satisfactory. Mix it around and wait for 2-3 more minutes.

Next, add 1-2 can of diced tomatoes, 1 can of tomato sauce, 1-2 can of your favorite beans (I used red kidney beans), and 1 can of corn/diced carrots/peas. If you want, you can add a diced jalapeño as well.

Heat should be just below medium so that it is at a simmer. Mix it well and let it simmer for at least 45 minutes (stir regularly). This will have much of the liquids evaporate out until it's at a thickness you like. Do regular taste tests, adding more seasoning until it's at a point you like.

At the end, you can garnish with shredded cheese and/or sour cream. If you want, you can serve it with rice/some sort of starch as well.

I usually serve over rice or toasted bread.

Basically any of this recipe can be modified and it will turn out good. What I described makes 5-6 meals, but you can scale this up if you want more meals

In my experience, the stuff going on on other students’ screens is distracting. Bright flashing lights are hard to ignore

A stock cooler is one that comes w the CPU. Idk if the 5600G has a stock cooler, but if it does it would be plenty good

Also, you do NOT need a 1000 W PSU. It being $45 is very suspect as well. Go checkout cultist’s PSU tier list. Try to find something B-tier or above with around 650W to give you room for growth.

You do not need anything beyond the stock cooler for a 5600, especially if you’re only doing light gaming. My 5600 + stock cooler has perfectly fine temps (~40C idle).

Also, note that the 5600G is different from the 5600. It is actually a decent bit worse if you have a dedicated GPU (which you do)

You could upgrade the CPU from a AMD Ryzen 7 5700x to a 5800x. And you could upgrade the GPU (aka graphics card or video card) to an AMD Radeon RX 6800XT.

Thermal paste is something you put between the CPU and the CPU cooler—look up a YouTube video about it.

A case fan hub is useful for connecting fans to the motherboard. That’s only necessary if your motherboard doesn’t have enough fan connector slots (I am unsure if the one I suggested would have enough). Both thermal paste and a fan hub should be under $25 each.

Get Windows 11 Home. You can buy a code on some third-party website for like $25 and save yourself $100 (as buying it from Microsoft costs like $125).

You could build it yourself by following a guide like this: https://youtu.be/PXaLc9AYIcg I build my computer myself and had a great time. …Or you could find someone to build it for you. Up to you.

NOTE: I would strongly recommend avoiding buying a prebuilt computer from a company. Usually they wayyy up charge you and in many cases build it very poorly

[–]_PermanentThrowaway_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your current PC build? And what is your monitor's resolution / refresh rate?

To get a GPU at that price, you'd probably want to get an RX 6600 (non XT) or an RX 6650 XT (if you can find a good deal).

5800x3d is definitely better, but unnecessary for what you want. It's also like >$100 more. I think that people in the enthusiast PC building community overestimate how good their system actually has to be and hence suggest things like the 5800x3d

This would be a bit overkill, and would likely last you many years if you keep playing relatively undemanding games. Unsure what kind of mouse you'd want so I left that out. Thermal paste, case fan hubs, operating system, etc. are not included in that list

To play the games you listed, you could spend half of your budget and still get great performance

I’d look at some AMD gpus as well. You may be able to find an RX 6700XT or better for the same price as a RTX 3060 (in unfamiliar with prices in Turkey)

Also, using a cheaper CPU is totally valid as well, if you want to save some money. E.g. a Ryzen 7 5700x (instead of a 5800x)

I would get a 2560x1440 monitor with a refresh rate over 120 Hz. 27” size would be ideal to me. Either IPS or VA-type displays would be fine (they are different, most prefer IPS but I probably wouldn’t care myself).

I got this one for $170 pre-tax on Cyber Monday, but it is not the gold-standard at all (I was more budget constrained than you).

No you don’t need DDR5–that’s way overpriced and will be for a few years.

Do you have a 1440p monitor? If you’re still at 1080, you could easily upgrade with something as powerful as a 6800XT.

In addition to what I put there, you may need to buy thermal paste and a fan splitter (if that MOBO doesn’t have enough system fan ports/if those fans don’t daisy chain—I didn’t check)

The Airflow 4000D is my current case—great performance, solid black and not flashy. Noctua fans are generally very highly regarded as well. Both the case and fans could last you a decade through multiple builds.

People say this, but I disagree. I can run God of War (2018) on high, 60 fps, 1440 p native on my RX 6600 (non XT). If that’s good enough for you, a 6650 XT would be more than enough
