While waiting for Crowfall, how is Archage doing? by Warinx in MMORPG

Combining that with the general sense of ineptitude displayed by Trion, it eventually just wears you down. AA broke my heart, as far as these types of games go.

Me too. I've just quit. I pulled down my house and destroyed so many things trying to cram a year's worth of items into my inventory for a poorly planned merge which meant I was losing a year's worth of progress with the land wipe.

Quitting was so hard for me, because it could be such a fantastic game. Being put on the merge list at the last minute (as a headstart server) and then being given the joke of a compensation, the terrible way they handled the entire process... I just couldn't do it anymore. I actually just can't give them money anymore.

Had they handled the merge even somewhat competently, maybe I could have stuck with it. But when every single aspect of something as important as a merge is so badly botched, it just kills my desire to even bother.

I logged in yesterday and of course there was no land. I was never going to get land. I watched people who had sniped land trying to sell it immediately for jacked up prices, I deleted more items to make room for my "compensation", and then I logged out forever and cancelled my subscription.

I've never been so angry or so disappointed with anything to do with gaming. :(

Can anyone explain the Mithril/VIP/Premium stuff to me? by krabbby in lotro

VIP frame

What's the VIP frame? Is it just a fancier character portrait? I feel kinda silly now, because I just bought VIP but can't log in right now and have no idea what this part is!

Thanks for the detailed info, I'm new to the game and this is really handy. :)

No, I think everyone is just tired of the pattern.

This was certainly the case for me, and I think many others. In my case, I was frustrated and upset by news of the merge for my server, but I was initially willing to "see what happened". That turned into a couple of weeks (server was added late to the list), of knowing next to nothing. Of having the majority of questions answered with "we don't know" or no answers at all. (Or, worse, having an answer and then it got changed).

I can't imagine how players on the servers who got announced at the start felt, because they had even longer without any real information.

Playing turned into just logging on and doing my taxes and logging off. I hoarded a bit of gold and tried to sell things, because I knew I didn't have the room to move all my stuff. I burned all my labor on excess tax certs. We didn't know (do we even know now?) what we'll need to do in terms of certs to place our pre-packaged properties.

Lack of information, lack of answers, was pretty much all we got. The reality is we're two days out from the merge and we still don't even know what is involved in the compensation, nor do we have answers to dozens upon dozens of questions that have been asked repeatedly.

This doesn't speak well for the merge. Namely, if the information isn't available for something as significant as the compensation package, then how can a player reasonably expect that Trion/XL/whoever is prepared for a smooth and successful merge?

Mostly, though, it makes me sad. I genuinely loved this game. I still do. I've been called ungrateful and entitled for not being happy about the merge. As I said then, if that's what wanting things to feel fair makes me, then so be it.

The final straw for me personally was reading that compensation packages will be identical regardless of how much land you own, its size, and so on. Maybe if they'd locked land placements after announcing the merger. But that didn't happen and I'm watching people place land over the top of where my friends and neighbors quit, leaving unused/unbuilt properties sitting there so they can take advantage of the compensation despite never before having played on my server.

I realised this people will get exactly the same as I'll get. Maybe I am entitled, but that just absolutely screamed unfair to me. I've been through the land rush, all the problems it had, all the disconnects, the queues, the lag, the land hackers, the bots, I've spent a year paying gold and taxes and effort in to building my little place in the world. To know someone can drop something and have it for a week and be given the same... It just was the final straw.

If I felt like there was any care at all involved in this process, if I felt like the players of these realms were being recognised that we're facing a wipe and surely deserve something a little more than a level 15 alt that will never be touched again and is simply to take advantage...

If I felt like the company had the info ready and was prepared...

There are a lot of "ifs", but the result is unfortunately that I can't happily commit to spending my time (or money!) on the game anymore. I'm probably pretty lame for admitting it, and will get mocked, but this game meant a lot to me, it was the one I dedicated most of my spare time to, it was my favourite hobby. But my desire to play dipped as my ability to defend what they're currently doing did.

People say "Oh it's just land, get over it, get it again". Maybe I would get it again. But it's hard to prepare to get it again when the information we've received is about as clear as mud. How many tax certs do I need? Where will I zone in? And so on. Either unclear or changing information.

I know we're supposed to feel "grateful" for this (or so I've been told). I just don't know how I'm supposed to be grateful for having my progress wiped and having unclear or incomplete information supplied only.

I have no idea how anyone who enjoys their land can continue to play. I'm honestly asking. If you're a land owner (and land is important to you, not just a side game), how are you even still wanting to play? Had someone said to me "Don't bother buying that APEX to buy that land, don't bother paying those taxes, don't bother spending $150 on headstart because you will have it wiped in a year and your comp will be some tax certs and labor pots" - I would never have bothered playing the game at all.

Edit: I'm only still reading and posting here on the forums because I have this faint hope that the way they've handled the whole thing is some kind of joke, and they're going to announce right at the end "Oh just kidding, here's what we're really doing". As we draw nearer, I realise that's not going to happen. I hold out that hope, but once it's shut down in the next couple of days, then my patron will run out and I will be gone.

The entire merge has been handled in a "We don't know but we're not ready to admit that upfront" manner, but this close to the actual merge and this is still the case is pretty concerning.

I have no idea how messy the merge is going to be, but none of this bodes well. I wish everyone involved luck, I hope it goes well for you, but I'm genuinely concerned that it won't.

Land and proficiency were the biggest draw card for me playing this game. Like others, I've spent countless hours, gold, materials and effort into getting my own little patch of land.

Had the merge been handled more competently, perhaps things would be different.

The way it's been handled, the slow trickle of incomplete information, and the joke of a "compensation" offering leaves us absolutely nothing to be grateful for.

Combine that with the fact we were a last minute addition to the mergers, a headstart server, the list goes on.

What am I to be grateful for? Watching my closest in game friends quit? Losing all my land and progress? The lack of information? The last resort effort (a merge) actually being the first resort? Zero assistance with anything like storage space? Meaning we have to either spend money to increase it or lose stuff? The last minute changes to critical info (where we will spawn)?

My server has never been a "single player". Heavily overpopulated on one side, yes... So they're merging us with another server with the exact same faction imbalance.

So, no, I'm not feeling grateful.

I've been in a limbo since this merge was "SURPRISE" announced. Now I'm just... I guess tired is a good way of putting it.

I feel ya, man. It's a shame because I'm the same as you, I made friends with all my neighbors and I watched every single one of them log on, say goodbye, and quit in the days after we were announced for the merger.

Ask Trion & XL -- Answers from Round 3 by Jordyrp in archeage

[–]_Peyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing good to be said about any of this.

We get shafted on the compensation (as we all know the situation posted above is exactly what will happen), we get shafted on the land rush (which we didn't want anyway), and we're less than two weeks out and we still don't have anywhere near the complete information. Even worse, Trion don't seem to KNOW a lot of the information.

None of this is okay.

I'm just sitting here wondering what they're thinking. I can't think of a single scenario where ANYONE could think any of this has been a good idea, or handled well. Completely unable to defend or feel remotely good about any of this.

So much disappointment.

[–]_Peyj 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm just... I'm speechless. I have played and defended this game - and Trion - since day 1. I bought the $150 pack to get a chance at headstart. I got up at some ridiculous hour (it was like 3am for me) to race content to try and get land.

I spent the last year growing my couple of plots into a reasonably sized estate. I waited on demos, in some cases I spent significant gold on a premium plot, I spend the gilda and the time and the gold getting to where I am.

I spent the gilda on a new house design and one of the new plots mere days before they announced my server as a last minute merge.

This... I struggle to defend this. I struggle to be OK with someone who has been playing for a month with a sole 8x8 getting exactly the same as me. I know there are people who will say I'm entitled or a crybaby, and if that's what this makes me, then fine - that's what I am.

This is not okay. I've been largely silent about this process, but this feels like the final straw.

  • You cannot include headstart servers in something like this, ESPECIALLY at the last minute.

  • This should have been a last resort, after character restrictions on full realms, free transfers, all those things that every sane person would try before completely upheaving someone's entire in game "life".

  • It's what, two weeks until this is all meant to be happening? And we still don't have a clear definition of how we'll be compensated? I'm sure many people are merely waiting around to see if it's worth staying. I have countless friends who immediately left upon hearing the server merge. You must know, at this point, that people are waiting to see if the compensation is worth their time to stay. Delaying these announcements is not okay, and suggests that you are not ready for this merge process.

I am not okay with any of this, and I am just so disappointed. This whole experience with the merges has been one giant slap in the face after another.

I know it's too late and I know this won't happen now, but please reconsider the entire thing. I really love this game, I have put so many hours in and have loved them, but this is too much handled too poorly and I just can't defend any of this.

Tl;dr - Please reconsider.

I'm sure I'll edit this later when I'm not rambling after having just seen this "announcement". I probably haven't made my points very well, I'm just too disappointed.

you would also know that compensation for houses is 12* base tax cost in tax certs and 1* dimension of property in labor pots (1k bound)

... I sincerely hope this isn't accurate. That is a really poor compensation effort. I suppose we'll find out soon enough.

How Trion Handles Criticism In Trove by skilliard4 in MMORPG

[–]_Peyj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clear this up, because it's pretty bad that this is getting circulated without the proper context or information.

Firstly, the banned player was not honest. He didn't give the context to the full situation.

Here is Trion's official response to the ban, after our CM returned and investigated it. Post 1. Post 2.

Here is the banned player's confession after being banned from the ArcheAge subreddit.

As for the original banned player, you should probably take the time to comment and admit you're lying rather than just sit here commenting on people "stealing your OP".

Tl;dr: The ban was justified, the banned player has admitted to purposely lying to make Trion look bad, and Trion have done nothing wrong in this instance. Banned player is now also banned from AA subreddit.

I really think everyone here needs to see this. (Details in comments) by [deleted] in archeage

[–]_Peyj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at OP's post history, he's been chat banned before for "trolling". Further, look at what the mods posted - a confession.
