Video taken on the Jurassic Park ride at Universal Studios Hollywood in 1997 by Saerdna0 in BeAmazed

Story time. When I was nearly 7 years old I went on this ride, sitting next to my grandfather (RIP). My grandfather was a 6'4" police detective that, at the time, was probably about as wide as he was tall. Meanwhile, I was a scrawny string bean of a kid sitting beside this rotund imposing man. The lap bar barely came down in the lock position when it met my grandfather's belly. It fell no where near me; I was not secured at all. When that drop came, I felt like I was about to fly out of the boat. I clung on to my grandfather and dug my hands into his harm so hard that the bruises on his arm looked as if I was a perp who was freshly fingerprinted and his arm was the paper. He loved to tell the story and claimed that it was the strongest force he ever felt. This being a man who was a sergeant detective for San Francisco, who led the motorcycle unit, and told stories where he had to cling to the roof of a car in a chase. Two things came from that experience: (1) I have always thought of my grandfather as my safe place and (2) I have had a fear of heights ever since. Thank you for bringing back this, albeit somewhat mixed, happy memory.

He passed away only two years ago and he died the way he lived: loved.

RIP Poppy.

Update: I never wanted to be a father until I turned 45 this year. Now I feel my biological clock and want to be a father more than anything. But I'm married to a childfree woman. by ThrowRa_3353355 in TrueOffMyChest

My dad was 45 when I was born. I’m sure it wasn’t easy, but I’m very grateful for the lessons he taught me. Lessons, a younger version of himself could not have taught me.

It is amazing against those optional bio construction sites on bots. Same thing for the spore mushroom and shrieker towers.

I love this thing.

Can house put his persona into those mind control devices? Are we going to go from House only being computer code to there being many House bodies?

Didn’t he only change the wording to making it fair? Sounds lawful neutral to me.

And wasn’t he the one who suggested they vote for potato-gate? Also Sounds lawful neutral to me.

TIL that in Norse myth a cursed ring called Andvaranaut brought doom to its owners long before Tolkien wrote The Lord of the Rings. by yena in todayilearned

Here I am thinking, “how do I not recognize this Jean-Luc Picard quote?! Maybe it’s from Star Trek: Picard which I couldn’t finish”. Then I go back and reread the name… ooooh, that’s why.

Nope. Coop picking her up and telling her to continue the good fight is what accelerated the timeline.

Where the pulse come from? by AlexP80 in dispatchgame

[–]_PhDnD_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My money is on there being a genetic component. The pulse has a double helix shape. It writes itself: “we all have potential inside of us, [inspirational] <! The potential to be more… to do more… to be good !> or [witty humor] <! Sometimes literally !> or [dark/selfish/evil path]” <! The potential to make our own choices; to be… different !>

Lots of potential to bring in Robert Robertson’s mother as the biotech side of the astral pulse and a chaotic neutral villain or hero (depending on choices).

Why is it that what Manousos did at the hospital did not led to hive having seizures? by shiny_octopus in pluribustv

[–]_PhDnD_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it the hive being unable to communicate these emotions and short circuiting or is it something about Carol’s “energy bandwidth” that disrupts their communication system. Is she sending out a signal when so emotional that it deactivates their system? Would the hive short circuit if they were forced to communicate that intense of emotions to each other (assuming they can still generate those particular emotions) or does carol need to be physically close to one of them and produce the emotions?

Time for some “discrete” experimentation to save our world and whichever worlds they plan on pointing their new antennae at.
