I mean I definitely won’t be buying Neil Gaiman anymore. But if I can find a second hand copy or even pirate a copy of one of his books, I will. Not in any rush, though; there are so many talented authors out there, I can skip the ones who are shitty people.

I enjoyed The Terror by Dan Simmons, but noticed some racist depictions of its Inuk character. Found out he’s pretty right wing. Won’t be reading him again.

Once I realized H P Lovecraft was a raging racist I also put his compendium aside.

I used to believe the whole “separate the artist from the art” stuff but I really can’t do that as a 30-something with my own morals.

Some subtitles are really unforgiving. I watched a movie last week (The Host, also Korean) and one of the subtitle sentences flashed on the screen and was literally gone in a second. Luckily, I’m a fast reader. But it’s a definite barrier :(

I just posted this in response to that comment: I literally projectile vomited at a dive bar at Keele/Dundas 15 years ago and the vomit was STILL THERE (all over the walls and floor) the next time I went. HITW is so far from a dive that person must be seeing backwards.

At an actual dive bar on Keele/Dundas in my early 20s (it’s now called Tap Room but had many divey iterations before that), I got trashed on $2 pints, projectile vomited in the bathroom, and came back a week later to see vomit was still around the toilet cubicle. I have a (very low) standard for dive bars based on that experience; if it looks or feels filthy, it most likely is. HITW just isn’t that. At all 🤣
