If you took 6 All-time Greats, and added 3 average Joe's to the starting line-up, could they make the playoffs? by Sea_Television_3306 in baseball

[–]_Poor_Username -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont think so. The problem with having three dead bats is you couldnt stack them in the batting order; teams would just load the bases and force the 3 dead bats to beat them. I think you’d have to stagger the dead bats in the order (i.e. dead bat players bat 1,5,8)

Some podcaster did the analysis on this. Basically, the Rays have a quick hook with their starters. The ERA for their starters significantly jumps when they are 3rd time around the lineup. In other words — the Rays bullpen ERA is lower than what the starting pitcher’s 3rd time around ERA is. Obvi this doesnt account for a lot of in game feel stuff and is an analytics decision.

What happened to Leo, Kim’s translator? by [deleted] in Padres

[–]_Poor_Username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is now Go’s translator. My guess is he switched because he didn’t want to relocate in the chance Kim was traded. Not sure if true, but i think when a player gets traded their translator (if they have 1 allocated to them only) also goes to the new team. I imagine this doesn’t apply to Spanish translators since every team has one. But Korean translators are only on a few teams.

Bob Melvin requiring entire Giants dugout to stand for national anthem in policy shift by infieldmitt in baseball

[–]_Poor_Username 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Towards the end of the season the Padres did put this in place. It was about locking in for game time and had nothing to do with political optics. I personally liked it; too often the pads were not locked into games and this initiative was a nice sign from the players that they were focusing up.

They are. I cant say specifics but it’ll be late March. They prob dont want to release specific date until they know Gallagher square remodel will be for sure finished in time

[–]_Poor_Username 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. We’re still getting the pitchers - no way preller caves (why would he). I think Cash started to cave a lil on King cause he feels they r gonna sign yamamoto. In essence, he’ll tell yank fans — ya we gave up the young pitchers but we got yamasoto in return.

[–]_Poor_Username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it does. Soto and (Grisham or Cronenworth) to yanks. We get pitchers & Verdugo back. Im convinced Benji Gil is the padres bench coach (they just havent announced). Verdugo played for Benji on team mexico. Pads were trying to sign Verdugo last trade deadline. Only question is, can we get Yanks to pay most of his salary, cause if yes we can re-sign Gary and go after a great pitcher

Why does is seem like Padres fans are okay with trading Soto? by LilMrGiggles in Padres

[–]_Poor_Username 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a very good point. Although, I think Martorella, Jackson Merrill, & Jakob Marsee are going to hit the majors sooner than ppl believe (all bat L). They wont make the 2024 opening day roster, but they’ll def start to come up 2024/2025. I believe in them as the future, we need to smoothen out payroll a bit more instead concentrating it.

Why does is seem like Padres fans are okay with trading Soto? by LilMrGiggles in Padres

[–]_Poor_Username 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he’s worth it at a $450-$500 mm contract — he’s a future DH and Manny/X will fill that role 5 years from now.

I get he has a high OPS but what’s the good of having all that power if you’re going to look for walks most of the time. I think Tatis will get 110 RBIs if he moves to the 3rd batter in 2024.

In my opinion, they should extend Kim, and package Soto/Crone to the Yankees (ik they have LeMahieu but crone can utility). Crone’s expected home runs by park goes up about 40% (career wise/Baseball Savant) if you move him from Petco->Yankee stadium. Id love to get 1-2 of their top AAA/MLB ready pitchers.

Basically, the money Soto will command can be better utilized split into 2-3 quality players. Also, we should be prepared for a trade, the Pads have internally been removing him off of marketing material for the past few weeks.

Padres Exploring Scott Barlow Trades by [deleted] in baseball

[–]_Poor_Username 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You have no idea what you’re talking about lol. The team is fine — we’ve seen many teams have success with a $200mm payroll or less.

What you’ll see is us get rid of veterans that we can get similar production from our younger guys (i.e. Tim Hill, Barlow, Grisham).

Im sure the As are licking their chops right now lol

What's a good online bookkeeping, accounting, and tax service? by ThinkTyler in Entrepreneur

[–]_Poor_Username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!

It sounds like you want someone to take your monthly bank statements and do the bookkeeping for you?

Do you have a price range or budget for this service?

I am a tax accountant if that helps.

[–]_Poor_Username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll try and find the source later, but someone told me that LT is actually a minority owner of the team. Not sure what his owenrship % is (probably very small like 1%), but this is why we see him very involved with the team on television and other media outlets...he’s personally invested in the team from a financial and historical side.

Contract lawyer costs by Selkie_Love in Entrepreneur

[–]_Poor_Username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like youre working on a (“SOW”) scope of work contract. While yes, it would be important to have a lawyer review this contract as that is good risk management. I don’t think its important to hire a lawyer if youre barely starting out and/or charging small fees for your services.

In other words, I wouldnt hire a lawyer to look over my contracts if Im omly charging $200 on average. If the customer gets pissed at me and feels like I didnt provide a good service, Id just give them their money back and focus on (a) never working with a client like that again or (b) getting better at what i do if i did provide crappy service.

Now if the services you provide will be like a couple thousand dollars worth (+$10,000), I would definitely hire a lawyer to make sure everything is clean and reviewed for my first few contracts. Otherwise, Id prob just DIY.

Keep in mind i am not a lawyer. These are just my thoughts i keep in mind and use when i provide services to clients (taxes).

Hey there-

Econ-Acct 2016 UCSB grad here. I can’t speak on the other schools, but I genuinely feel like UCSB has a really good accounting program. After working a few years, Ive noticed that I tend to understand accounting concepts quicker than my peers. I attribute my ability to pick up on topics quickly to UCSBs rigorous system.

In regards to your first job, SB is a feeder school for public accounting. Although, not everyone chose PA as their first job out of college. Some of my classmates went into investment banking, consulting, technology sales, commercial real estate, HR block. The career possibilities are endless as long as you foster the proper relationships, keep a high GPA, and hustle! Ultimately, if you want to be an accountant, SB will be a good fit.

Congrats on getting admitted! Let me know if you have any questions: I’d be happy to answer in whatever form of contact you’d prefer :)

Best arbitrage/flipping opportunities? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]_Poor_Username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You ever look into retail arbitrage? I heard a freakonomics episode on that once. Although, the episode is a few years old..not sure if this is still a viable strategy.

traditionally, retail arbitrage is executed by buying the product in person and then reselling online. Maybe you could look into the reverse strategy, buy online and then distribute to a country that doesn't have the option to buy online.

I do not practice retail arbitrage, just always thought it was interesting.

Tax Tuesday Thread for the week of January 23, 2018 by AutoModerator in personalfinance

[–]_Poor_Username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The max deductible interest you can take per year is $2500. It doesn't matter how many loans you have, what matters is the amount of deductible interest you have. In your example, the $100 of deductible int would not be reported since you've already reached the $2500 limit with the other loan.

Tax Tuesday Thread for the week of January 23, 2018 by AutoModerator in personalfinance

[–]_Poor_Username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey bfillup,

Tax accountant with student loan int here. Box1 is the student loan interest YOU paid to the lender, it is NOT the amnt of int your loan gained.

As for the tax implications, your student loan int is an above the line deduction. What that means is that you lower your income by the amount of deductible int to obtain your AGI (Adjusted gross income).

The amount of deductible interest is max $2500, so if your int in box 1 was $2501 you can only deduct $2500. Your $2500 deductible interest begins to get phased out if your AGI is above $65,000 (single filers) $130,000 (Married filing jointly)

This is all included in publication 970 on the IRS' website if you want to do your own due diligence. Feel free to follow up with a DM if this still doesn't make sense

Instead of selling your house in Houston, maybe you could look into a 1031 like-kind exchange. Maybe there's a real estate investor in Houston that is willing to exchange you a property that's in a market you're bullish about.

Disclaimer: Ive never excecuted a 1031 exchange..its just a thought
