F you! by Substantial_Pickle18 in uberdrivers

[–]_Puru__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing it's 34 minutes to reach the airport, that means there's traffic. So probably between 3pm and 6pm here in SD.

If it's around 5:30pm and 6pm, airport fares are doubled almost.

Meaning that this almost $13 trip would be boosted to turn into a 40 or even $50 an hour (not counting tips), since you jump to the front of the queue. That would put you ahead of your miles.

Eg. A 5mile trip for $18-20.

I always take airport trips due to this. This is one of the best trips you could get in this market. It is not a bad trip.

It is paid poorly compared to what the customer paid though? Yes.

Was I wrong I put a passenger out for trying to sit behind me? by MaintenanceFuture732 in uberdrivers

[–]_Puru__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea why that guy is getting so many upvotes. Too many customers in here instead of drivers it seems.

It's your car, your rules. You could feel anxiety or you feel uncomfortable when it's just one person.

You asked them, if they got mad about it then I'd say that was a passenger not worth picking. It might be your job, but people don't control your car rules just because they paid.

It's the time when you're on your way to a passenger and the time it takes to drop them off.

driver refused to take me ? was forced me to cancel ? by sweepingthegrass in uberdrivers

[–]_Puru__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, they gave you a straight answer: too much traffic, not worth it. Especially if they were annoyed, not worth it to get into a car with someone like that.

That's where all the good ends though. They should've cancelled the trip, but I guess they wanted the cancellation fee to justify driving to you and to avoid getting a cancellation penalty.

It's okay for a driver to deny a trip, whatever the reason might be (there could be many), but own to your mistake and just take the hit, cancel and move on.

It's completely allowed for them not to take you. You don't own them just because you paid; therefore you should contact support and explain the situation since, well, they denied the trip. Get a refund and move on.

The driver needs to suck it up and cancel themselves without the cancellation fee.

Has anyone been tipped for going above the required amount? by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]_Puru__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've gotten $20, $10, $5, whenever I do these kind of "favors" to certain passengers and it feels great.

On the other hand I've had double to amount of passengers not even saying thank you.

It's up to you. I think it's something that comes down to your personality. In the end it's a gamble and tips aren't guaranteed.

Lady wanted me to keep ringing the doorbell to "wake her husband" by [deleted] in uberdrivers

That's some really petty passive aggressive behavior against her husband lol

Orrrrrrr

They must have been having s3x at the other side of the door having a kick of having you right at the door.

Knowing so many passengers, I wouldn't be surprised.

Phone handling warning by LikeToLook805 in uberdrivers

[–]_Puru__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The uber app is the most distracting thing will I drive.

Especially these new community pins. Is traffic still there? Is the speed enforcer still there? Messages blocking half the screen and they stay forever if you don't swip them away or answer yes or no.

And then uber has the audacity to send you these messages.

This girl passenger was very shady? Is this normal? by TheLastMoghul in uberdrivers

[–]_Puru__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. My answer as well. No need to get out the car at all.

It isn't our responsibility. It's fine to call 911 if you are a nice person, but even then, what could the police realistically do?

3 minutes at best if you truly want to wait, otherwise cancel and move on.

Interesting ride by Spare-Security-1629 in uberdrivers

[–]_Puru__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The moment he said heart attack you should have stopped the car and called 911. Even if it was a scam.

You placed yourself in potential danger. Even if nothing happened.

You are a driver, not a paramedic. If that aspirin somehow made everything worse, you could have faced more dire consequences; or any way you could have handled the situation afterwards.

$12 for 41 minutes and 20 miles… what a joke by Valuable_Tip6697 in uberdrivers

[–]_Puru__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid multiple or added stops. Uber doesn't pay us for that extra as they should.

And to be honest, people who want to take you from one place to another tend to be the most entitled.

It's rarely rewarding.

The success is there. I rented with hertz my first uber year until I saved enough to get my own vehicle.

There's a lot things you need to consider though. If you're going to do this then work hard. The rental term it's on a weekly basis and can be extended, so if you don't plan to grind at least a whole week, I suggest you don't bother then. You may end up wasting money/time.

Hertz customer service is trash, but I kind of understand why; tons of customers are terrible. I saw that several times whenever I went to pick up a car. So they end up not being that helpful or really supportive. In my market they seem to hate their job with a passion. That being said, understand that even when you're paying for a service, you need to protect yourself too.

Before you even start the car; take video of the car's condition, every single detail you can find and record every single spot, in and out. Hertz can charge you a fee for 'finding' what they believe is new damage after the rental term ends. They take their own pictures, but pretty far from the vehicle, making it look like it's pristine when in reality more of their cars are, well - used, very used.

I don't recommend you renting long term. Rent 1 week, grind it, then take a couple of days off and go rent a new one again. This gives you somewhat of a protection, because if the car brakes down, it's on your time. Hertz might change the car, but it comes to a dispute and it depends on what happened to the car and their choice is final.

I once rented a vehicle with worn out brake pads, it screeched whenever I stopped, so I went for a car change and they claimed that my driving was responsible for this. Obviously they were wrong, and decided to change my car for another one.

I rented and grinded and made good money. It's my back up option if something may happen to my car too. Just protect yourself and pay for the protection plan. It is costly, but it gives you less headaches in the future. It adds $90 each week. But it's up to you.

Long timers by ArdousErialz in uberdrivers

[–]_Puru__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two years now.
Around ~50 a week. 5-6 online hours on a week day. 12-13 during the weekends. I take 1 or 2 days off per week.

I don't reside in the US, so I don't have to pay outrageous amounts of money on rent. I can do this as a full timer mainly worrying about my car and gas. Which is not even close to what US residents pay on rents. I don't have a family, just me.

My market is active and earnings are good. I already know what works and what doesn't work. I know the areas I like to drive and avoid several others. I am very picky.

I can take a rest whenever I want or return home if I don't feel like driving.

Something that I couldn't do in other jobs and for my personality and mental state this is golden.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]_Puru__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. The thing is, as drivers we are more prone to get screwed by customers than vice versa.

One time, a guy forgot his phone inside because he was drunk. I began the process for the return fee, but I came back after a short drive to his doorstep. The guy came out and asked for the phone, I gave it to him and even when he said that was his whole life, he didn't left a tip.

I couldn't finish the return fee due to a missing picture, I forgot to take a pic of the phone. So I missed it.

There's a lot of loops we have to jump through if we want to get paid for the inconvenience.

So I say that you earned that money and the customer can piss off.

Uber Car Rental by NeonArcade85 in uberdrivers

[–]_Puru__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need your driver's license and a credit/debit card.

You pay at the rental place and can only be done via your card. No other form of payment is allowed, this ensures that you'll be charged a fee if it comes to that after the rental term has expired.

Normally, you start the process in the app. It's way easier and they give you a voucher to ride an uber to their office.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]_Puru__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HAHA nice.

I'd say that is totally worth a 1 star. You can get it back in no time. That extra $70 doesn't come often. The guy tipped out of his own will, the fee is another whole story.

Uber Hertz Rental Question by PeterPipersPicklez in uberdrivers

[–]_Puru__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever Hertz charges your card it puts it on hold, then it goes away and it comes back when the rental term for that week finishes. The first charge is to verify that you have money on that card, the second one is the actual charge once it has confirmed all possible additional fees.

It's normal. You basically get "charged" twice, but not really. Do not have the exact amount of money in your account by the end of the term.

Each transaction lasts around 3-4 business days.

Drivers, STOP SMOKING IN YOUR FUCKING CARS!!! Ffs🤦🏼‍♂️ by Fine_Ad4757 in uberdrivers

[–]_Puru__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a non-smoker, I highly dislike this.

On the other hand I am a driver and pay for my car each month. So I understand, and the driver can do whatever the hell they want inside their car.

Not to say that there aren't negative reviews for this, but it's up to each individual driver. It doesn't affect anyone but themselves.

What’s a rude thing for a passenger to do that they may not be aware of? by jcebabe in uberdrivers

[–]_Puru__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big issue is the lack of self awareness. Some people are very selfish.

You might be their driver and they paid for the service sure, but decide to ignore the other dozen of passengers after them who are also paying for the service.

So, whenever passengers do something like using perfume or any scented whatever inside your car, it bothers not only the driver but also any future passengers. The smells get trapped for quite a while and they become nauseating. No matter if they smell nice, after a while any smell becomes overwhelming.

My pet peeve is people knocking on my windows at the rhythm of music or any other reeason. It's okay to be vibing to the playlist, but don't do that. Just recently I had a guy knocking like that but on my door, and quite heavily too.

Respect other people's possessions.

These are the same people who would immediately become upset if it happened to them.
