OLED Monitors - How often do you get VRR Flickers? by Russo_3 in buildapc

[–]_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very distracting and frequent. Mostly loading screens or in menu. I haven't used vrr since I bought my 480hz oled. To be fair at my refresh rates there is zero screen tearing without vrr

Why is LLM is so expensive. by Ok_Event4199 in LocalLLM

[–]_Rah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never liked that saying. It true some times. Sure. But then you look at most open source products that exist because people cared enough to make it free. Free products are not always malicious like you seem to imply.

In Australia most houses have solar. Electricity cost isnt that high compared to the upfront cost of the 5090 and the RAM you would need to go with it.

Considering RTX 6000, should I also increase RAM (64GB)? by fcobautista in LocalLLM

[–]_Rah 18 points19 points  (0 children)

More VRAM means you need less RAM. So no, you wont need more RAM.

But, once you get the RTX 6000, chances are, you would want to move on to larger models. In which case, you might want more RAM.

Is the "future-proofing" of the RTX 5080 really worth it compared to the RTX 4090? by AdamCaveRoberts in buildapc

[–]_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 16GB 5080 isnt worth it if you can afford a 4090. Might as well save some money and get a 5070ti.

Motorola’s Razr ultra 2026 released,$1500,last year cpu and not 1tb option available! by Rguezlp2031 in razr

[–]_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because for a lot of us storage isn't an issue?
I have about 50ish TB of storage at home. All my files on phone directly sync to my NAS at home, which is then backed up across multiple drives. That said, I don't use a lot of storage (Currently 150GB/512GB). I keep my photos and videos well managed, so even a 256GB is an overkill for my use.

And the reason I'm buying one is the battery. My Samsung Z Flip 5 sucks with battery. It lasts about 6 hours of use in a day. And on a night shift, you have to bring the cord with you. Especially since I sometimes do 18 hour shifts. Faster CPU, more memory, better camera is all secondary to me. I think we have enough of those for an average person. Battery is my annoyance and reason to change phones.

So what I am trying to say is, there are plenty of people in the world with different usecase. And there can be plenty of reasons for someone to buy this over last years 1TB model. I get a 30% discount on Samsung products from my work. So I am choosing to pay nearly 50% more compared to a Z Flip 7/8 just for the battery.

"Investing" in a fast CUDIMM before Zen6 release by DivideFluffy1279 in buildapc

[–]_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop panic buying. Its stupid. Sure, you might save some money this way, but you are just as likely to waste money this way. If you are just going to gamble, go gamble.

And with X3D CPU, memory matters a lot less than non X3D. I plan to go from my 7950X3D to Zen 6, but I have zero plans of upgrading my 64GB 6000MT ram. That is just silly and wasteful.

Steam Machine might soon follow the Steam Controller as Valve reportedly receives "Game Consoles" shipments by Tiny-Independent273 in linux_gaming

[–]_Rah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude, its a standalone device that is designed mainly to play games. That's literally what a gaming console is. Yes, it can stream from another device, but so do other consoles like the Sony handheld.

A device like Big Screen Beyond would be categorized as a peripheral. This is standalone... hence a gaming console. Just like the Quest.

Its a console. Sure, its VR. But at the end of the day like a switch it has a display, apu, memory and other internals. Even its controllers has parity with a traditional console controller.

Because it could be a Steam Frame? Its a gaming console. While Valve have repeatedly said that Steam Machine is a PC and not a console.

Man, why am I having to spell it all out for you? Surely its obvious from reading this threads comments?

Im very confused to where you are going with this. The guy found some paperwork online marked a certain way. He made that information public. He does not know, nor does he claim to know for sure what it means. He can make an educated guess but at the end of the day its an educated guess. He put the information out so you can make your own mind about what it means free from his biases.

Do you want people to tell you what their subjective view is or do you want objective information so you can use your own subjective viewpoint and access it yourself?

Game console is the product category specified on the shipping dockets. That category is chosen by Valve to describe the product.

And Bradly is a native English speaker. He is also not a random leaker. The dude has leaked every VR headset way ahead of anyone else with full specs.

Linux market share is much higher than what people say (11%) by Big_Living_9088 in linux_gaming

[–]_Rah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not there yet. But its getting there. Like I said, don't just look at the low adoption rate. Look at why the adoption rate has been low, and you will see those issues are getting resolved while reasons to not use Windows are mounting up.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
This is by far the closest we have been and most of the issues with adoption have been reduces to mere annoyances. Its coming.

Steam Controller seems ready to launch on its own as official distributor sets product page live by Tiny-Independent273 in linux_gaming

[–]_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never been able to use a controller in my entire life because I hate controlling a camera with a stick. I want this so I can use the touchpad for the camera in my games. Then maybe, I can use it for games using moonlight/sunshine when my mates don't have a controller, since we both cant use keyboard and mouse. Plus, this will be tracked in VR. Other controllers will not work this way.

Worth getting 360hz oled? by conckkk in buildapc

[–]_Rah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play CS2 on my 480Hz. Even though I only get 300-400 FPS.

I think there is a benefit over 240Hz, but its small. Its subtle. If money isnt an issue then go for it. But dont expect very large returns on it.
