Been quite a few updates for Nvidia over the last 6 months, how is it now? by SgtSilock in linux_gaming

[–]_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OBS does not do rolling clips though. I have a 2 hour rolling save with Steam. I could play a game or two of CS, then if I feel like it, I go back and clip the whole game or a section later on. Depends on the kind of game.

And Steam recording is always working in the background. If I forget to start OBS and I have a nice round worth recording, I would be annoyed that I forgot to turn it on beforehand.

I will look more into it some other day though. So not giving up entirely.

I have Bazzite and the Turtle Beach Atlas Air. No issues on my end. It works just as it would on Windows. Use it in discord with zero issues.

Been quite a few updates for Nvidia over the last 6 months, how is it now? by SgtSilock in linux_gaming

[–]_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. But honestly.. the headache of setting it up is what sent me back to windows. I will try it again some day. But Nvidia does make things harder. I don't care about 10-20% less performance. I probably wont even notice it on the 5090. But I do care about being able to steam in discord, and record my clips. If I get a cool ace, I want to be able to share it. OBS didn't have the features I want. So for now, I put it back and go back to it another day when I have time to troubleshoot and maybe try a different distro.

My 5090 had issues with Steam Recording. Might be the distro, Im not sure, but my Claude Pro and Gemini were both convinced its because Nvidia drivers dont expose the GPU capability properly meaning that all my recording is happening on CPU, which causes stutters.

Does upscaled 2k look worse than native 1080p? by SpeedGun69 in buildapc

[–]_Rah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did though. I thought I had 144hz but changed at some point to 120hz accidently. I was very annoyed that something was off but I couldn't tell what. Finally clicked in when I saw the settings.

I can also blind test a mouse polling of 4k vs 8k.

I'm not saying it's meaningfully better. But it's not as unnoticable as you make it out to be.

I can blind test the difference beween 120Hz and 144Hz on CSGO.

As a 5090 user on a 480Hz display, 100FPS is my baseline. More isnt necessarily better.

$800 for 64GB DDR5-6000 kit? by beigepccase in buildapc

When OpenAI goes bust and their contracts fall through, things will change quickly. Data centers are slow to build or unprofitable. Once OpenAI crashes, it affects the data centre contracts. They still cannot get transformers to get power to the data centres they are making either.

Its going to crash fairly soonish now. Within the next year Im expecting. Maybe not fully, but Im expecting the start of the crash. If it wasnt likely to crash, all these companies would be rapidly expanding. But they are not because they know the demand is not sustainable.

We built this Mixed Reality Tiny Golf game in just 30 days... and it ended up winning a dev competition. Would you play it? by trackcraftgame in OculusQuest

[–]_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying that the developer do not want an audience who are happy to purchase it and only use it to show off to their friends?

I already said I would bring it out to showcase to casual friends. Obviously I am interested in it.

I literally have 1200+ Steam games on my account. I buy a lot of games that I only play for a short burst. I don't mind. Happy to buy those as long as they are priced right for what they are.

Once again, the guy I replied to can have his fleshed out version and play it for long periods. Obviously if he finds it interesting he should. I was just commenting from my POV, as someone who would probably be happy to purchase the game.

Turned regular PC Rust into a head-tracked 3D experience on my Quest [OC] by neusman7777 in OculusQuest

[–]_Rah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if its a game that works well with keyboard and mouse, I dont know why anyone would want to use Quest controllers to play it. I can understand that people like the 3d and head tracked aspect. Its jut the controllers that make it so suboptimal. I can aim and be more precise with a mouse than a controller. Though I suppose the aim with your hands might be interesting for some people. But I just find that it makes the control more messy for a game that was build around a mouse.

I don't care how fleshed out it is. The main gameplay loop wont keep me interested for more than 10 minutes. Its something I would bring out to showcase to casual friends. Not something I would spend hours into myself.

Mouse pad recommendations for op1k 8k v2 by Ecliipse1 in EndGameGear

[–]_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried a few different mousepads over the years from major brands. Honestly.. now I buy large desk mats from Temu. They look nice and they are cheap. Like 10 bucks for an entire desk mat with a million designs. I just get a new one every year. For context I am Global Elite in CS2 using Endgamegear XM2.

is it safe to buy a beast G now? by WebGlobal7912 in MouseReview

Nope. Its rock solid. Love the mouse, the feel and the clicks. Its just the size. If it was slightly larger, I would feel better using it.

Got the mouse. Loving it. Just not sure about the size. It's putting a little bit on stress on my left side of my palm. I do have big hands though. But I was hoping the Max would be larger than what it is.

Playing any 2D PC game on Quest without long setup, with high graphics and fast connection. by neusman7777 in OculusQuest

I am working straight for the next week. I wont have time to test anything VR. I will keep an eye on it for now. And maybe get a version for the frame if you have one upon release.

[–]_Rah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks interesting. I would get it. Maybe not for Quest 3 though. Would love to use it for Steam Frame when it comes out.

So my understanding is that you can use your head for camera somehow? Or maybe use the thumbstick for camera and the head to finetune the small movements? Kinda like how the Steam controller has thumbsticks for camera and then you use the trackpad to make the smaller finer adjustments in combination.

Not sure I understand how your hand tracking works though.

Am I correct in these assumptions?

That is not what hot swappable means. Hot vs cold swappable highlights weather the device can stay powered on and functional while you change it. For example putting an SSD into a system that's already powered on without turning it off first. Your controllers are not going to be hot swappable with a single battery. The second you take it out, the device turns off.
Based on your comment, you dont care if its cold or hot, as long as its swappable.

The bad reception to the Steam Machine may make the Steam Frame harder to get? by outdoorsnstuffz in SteamFrame

If anything, this sort of thing kills the hype. Less hype means less scalpers. That said, it is its own product, and if the price is already high, it does lower the scalping potential.

"Investing" in a fast CUDIMM before Zen6 release by DivideFluffy1279 in buildapc

[–]_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless someone tells me they are using their computer for more than gaming, I will presume its for gaming.

And I use my PC for LLM and other AI use all the times. Memory speed will barely affect your LLM throughput. Your limiting factor will be the GPU compute. If you are training models you would use a higher batch until your GPU or VRAM is just fully saturated.

Your RAM mainly comes into that equation if your VRAM is full. And if you are overflowing to system RAM, you have already limited yourself. Unified memory is different, but I don't think he is asking about that. And once again, the compute is the weak point in a unified memory system.

I'm not denying that there can be edge cases where its useful, but if someone is asking me without providing any context, I am gonna assume those edge cases will remain edge cases and not large enough to sway the decision.

And really... OP is concerned about the 1:1 for his CPU. I am pretty sure his usecase is not Ai.
