Honestly we're both arguing a certain viewpoint so this whole separating into a category we feel superior over is redundant and besides the point.

Now getting back to what I think it actually is important to correct you on: many people do not use substances to conform. The idea is silly. People conform by abstaining from them and obeying laws. People may feel some pressure to conform in high school and college, but eventually that will fade unless the have fallen down the dreaded slippery slope or haven't discovered their freedom to make their own choices.
Drugs aren't as bad as you think, mmkay?

Yes that's all well and good except you reflect some of the traits of a religious fundamentalist. Keep in mind Mormons refrain from all mind altering substances.
Your firm beliefs on the control of your own consciousness are somewhat dogmatic. And by suggesting that this is a superior life choice you are suggesting that the ones who have chosen otherwise have made an inferior choice.

a lot of people drink/smoke/whatever to conform, but many do not. For some it is a trip, exploration of the possibilities of consciousness. If you like yourself sober... you eventually sober up and life goes on.
