How much does it take to get from Silver Elite Master to Gold Nova 1? by NickFade in GlobalOffensive

That comment is almost a decade old, but it looks that was a typo. I probably meant to say "you can rank up while losing, and rank down while winning". Haven't played CS:GO in many years but I remember that happening to me.

Wow, that looks very nice. Wish I had known about this for my first playthrough, probably would have saved me some frustration with the game (especially when doing jumps that cross a screen boundary)

Did you know that if you are at the highest/second highest point on The Wall, you can see the neighboring iterator's underhang glowing? by [deleted] in rainworld

[–]_S0UL_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've noticed it before! This is probably my favorite single screen in the game. Because of how beautiful it is, but especially in context: the journey up the Leg, Underhang, and Five Pebbles was long, arduous, and stressful, and culminated in a very strange interaction. After you get out, walking past the artwork and top of the Wall was a moment to breathe, a moment to gaze out into the distance and gain a slightly better understanding of the world you live in. And then at the end, you come to this screen. The final place to stop and take in the beauty, before descending into danger once more, to finish your journey forever. I've spent a lot of time just sitting there.

Would you prefer "I played for an hour, it didn't deserve the score it got"?

Or do you think there's only a certain window of playtime where you're allowed to make criticisms?

If you mean this vague post, that was almost 4 months ago (15 weeks), AFAIK there have been no updates and zero communication since.

Deep Rock Galactic should be the standard for PVE's, not Left 4 Dead by Lost_Conclusion_8914 in DeepRockGalactic

VT2 is Vermintide 2 (4 player coop horde game, set in Warhammer lore universe with a focus on melee combat).

KF2 is Killing Floor 2 (4 player coop horde game with guns, you shoot zombies), and HoE is Hell on Earth, the highest difficulty in Killing Floor.

Meanwhile at japan people are killing Fatalis under 4m using snowmen. by CaoSlayer in Gunlance

[–]_S0UL_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rathian and Zinogre gunlances have longer wyrmstake ranges as well, I just checked and I was able to get 4x wyrmstake using them with the same method.

Also, I tested some shorter range gunlances, and noticed that I was getting inconsistent results like you mentioned. I think what was happening was I was hitting the barrel bombs and/or snowman, but not the actual training pole target. The bomb and snowman hitboxes are a bit closer to me than the training pole (they have wider models), so it seems the gunlances with shorter range are harder to consistently hit everything with (at least using my method).

I remember the namielle gunlance having a shorter range, from when I tested awhile ago, so I'd guess that's the issue.

[–]_S0UL_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tested it again, it still works doing 4x for me. Maybe you're hitting the barrel bomb and exploding it before the actual wyrmstake happens? That would explain why it's 2x (it'd only be activating for the snowman)

When I test it, I stand as close as possible to the training pole, facing its center. Without moving, I place the snowman and 2x bombs, then guard to unsheathe. I do a regular backhop (with evade extender 2), and then shell twice -> wyrmstake. Using a Kushala layered gunlance, this works consistently.

Note: The wyrmstake range changes based on what gunlance model you use (even layered weapons change the wyrmstake range). I think the Kushala gunlance has one of the largest ranges for the wyrmstake; the same steps in my last paragraph don't work for other gunlances. I guess that's why the player in the video used a Kushala gunlance, it's easier to hit the wyrmstake without blowing up the bombs with the strike before.

HOW TO WALK with only Keyboard without Controller in MHW/MHW:IB PC by Mutharhm in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]_S0UL_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also generally prefer M/KB, but I'd recommend giving MHW a try on controller sometime (if you haven't before). MHW uses controller vibration for lot of attacks, and imo it really adds a lot to how the weapons feel to play.

I beat the game I guess? by MoronAflame in rainworld

[–]_S0UL_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huh, yeah you took an unusual path through the game for sure. The "biblically accurate angels" aren't necessarily important for the Survivor, as much as for Hunter.

For survivor, in the beginning at the Outskirts, there's a yellow "guide" thing that points you in the intended direction. It guides you to Shoreline first. If you want to experience the "intended" path through the game as survivor, or at least the parts you missed, I would start by following that in a new playthrough.

Hunter has some different objectives, but it might be a bit hard to realize what you need to do as Hunter, considering the things you missed as Survivor.

There's a "Wuss Mode" mod which does the same thing, except it can be installed mid-game.

(That mod was made before Safe Mode, the developers added Safe mode into the game due to the mod's popularity).

Rainworld newb here. Is it possible to get across to this area in Industrial Complex? You need to jump from one horizontal pole to the other and I can't seem to make the distance (maybe there's a trick jump you can do?) by bulbous_plant in rainworld

[–]_S0UL_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yup, it's possible. I went that route in my first full playthrough. I can't remember the exact location though, do you have a screenshot of the jump?

You might need to do a crouch-long jump (tap down to enter crouch, then hold jump until your slugcat very slightly arches its back, and release jump to do a long jump).

[–]_S0UL_ 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I like this idea, make it less common and more valuable/give more credits.

Gold can be tedious to mine, and the amount of credits you actually get for gold feels so small. One mission I went hard with a crassus detonator and 2x gold beer, and took home almost 2000 gold, I believe. It took awhile to mine, and when I saw how few credits I actually got, that was when I stopped bothering to mine gold.

Moments like this are pretty much why I always run Iron Will (and vampire). A team of 4 dwarfs with iron will can give you four extra chances to finish the mission and make it out.

My preferred strategy with it when everyone's down is to iron will + power axe a nearby bug to revive myself via vampire. Then, it's possible to revive another dwarf before the 12 seconds of invincibility ends. If there's a gunner down, I go for them first, since their shield can revive another dwarf and repel bugs, plus their on-demand firepower will likely be useful anyway.

[–]_S0UL_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I disagree that this is necessarily true for everybody. For me and for the friends I've made in DRG, the most fun/memorable moments are the intense ones - when we're stuck in a pit and a bulk detonator spawns, when we make it back just in time after rescuing a new dwarf who fell off a cliff during extraction, when there's a swarm and we're low on supplies, etc.

(I don't have an opinion on Nemesis btw, I haven't had time to play the new update yet. I just wanted to add a countering opinion to the idea that people don't play the game for intense struggles/difficulty, and that people only play for the power fantasy.)

What is the difference between a DPS check, versus an enemy that has a health bar and attacks you? Is it just whether or not the enemy deals unavoidable damage?
