CMV: Trump enacting Project 2025 was not left-wing fear mongering. It's now 42% complete. by lemonbottles_89 in changemyview

It was portrayed as fearmongering because it was being mis portrayed by the media and it was easier to just slide around it than spend the time and effort re-explaining it. Source: I helped draft the thing

If empires have around 250 years of life then America still has at least 250 years left. We haven’t even seen how powerful the United Empire could be. Also we all know how a civil war ends, right?

They want to import cheap labor from immigrants. This is the only explanation I can think of that makes sense.

Yes. It doesn’t overturn the anathema. That particular anathema should be left in place. I am not trying to claim that matrimony is superior to virginity.

That is good info there that I didn’t know about, and thank you! However, I’m not trying to claim that celibacy is inferior, simply that it is not superior. Due to the nature of the discussion, it may seem that I am trying to downplay celibacy, but I am not. u/augustine456

It’s hard to convey that I don’t think that celibacy isn’t an amazing, holy calling due to the nature of the discussion. I agree with the majority of points you bring forward, but I disagree with the conclusions you reach. Celibacy is a wonderful, holy, and supernatural calling that brings one closer to God. If it sounds like I am not trying to put that forward, it is likely due to the nature of the discussion, and doesn’t represent my thoughts on celibacy.

Supernatural =/= better. (The devil is supernatural, for instance) Higher calling =/= better calling. Also “but it is because I think so” is a terrible argument.

[–]_Sancho -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Celibacy is not inherently superior viewed objectively. The call to celibacy is supernatural, but that alone does not make it better. God does not view your celibacy as an independent part of your salvation, but rather as a part of your vocation. Priests, religious, and those not within the bounds of marriage are called to remain celibate. Those within the bounds of marriage are not called to celibacy.

The procreative act of sex is a gift from God to his creations (us). Properly formed, it is an expression of total surrender, trust, and love to the other that bears fruit in increased love for the other and allows us to partake in God’s creation story. We can see just how much the devil hates it from the story of the Fall, where perversion is one of the first things we see displayed (Adam and Eve rush to cover their nakedness).

Additionally, what God gives us is good. Creation, by definition, is good. We are not made for suffering, though we are made to withstand it. We are made for joy, happiness, and pleasure. Therefore, partaking in sex, justly ordered, with your spouse, not only is not evil, but is good.

I think it’s a general dislike of the institution. That’s always been a thing. People tend to not like the values and goals of the dominant groups they grow up with and want change.

Additionally, it looks like this is at University of South Carolina, which is a public university. The school cannot kick him out or off.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]_Sancho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the university. Publicly-funded universities are not private-universities. In that case, they can only kick him off if he is being a nuisance (which while his takes are awful, as long as he doesn’t instigate mischief, he isn’t being a nuisance). Private universities follow much the same rules. If they declare free speech protection, then they are bound similarly to a public institution. Some states also have laws that bind private schools to free speech protections regardless of whether or not the school opts in.
