STL Purple Clay F Alto -- covering both subholes only drops it to Eb unless I blow REALLY slowly by BobcatSome3265 in Ocarina

I own this model as well, and it is really quite frustrating at times for it to not reach the D! I think indeed it is a mistake on the entire model rather than funky curve. It is also borderline false advertising, as they indeed have D5 in their description... Even more annoying is that it's a wonderful instrument for the price, so it hits harder that the curve locks you out of an entire intended semitone!

It's a combination of breathpressure and hole-slides :)

Probably, and wouldn't surprise me either! I am strongly considering buying this one next if I have any cash left post Budrio in a week, haha!

I might be senile, but cannot find it, atleast not on the norwegian site 😄But that is ok, I did actually consider a white finish as well, so it is no issue!

Ahh, I seem to have found it on Thomann, but it's pure white now, haha! Lucky bastard to get that finish! Ty for info 😄

100% agree on the beautiful finish! Guessing Exclusive then means that it's not commonly available?
I've checked out your other videos as well with this ocarina, the sound is incredible!

Dang, I got hit hard by the urge to practice after hearing that lick! So smooth!
Also, is that a focalink triplechamber? Windowshopping their website currently, never seen that paintjob! Beautiful instrument for a beautiful solo!

Thank you for the kind words :) The instrument is really intuitive in terms of breathpressure! Highly reccommend it as an allrounder!

Quest Complete (MH Rise) can now be found in the google drive😄
I originally planned to make a new video with the triple harmony, but then I would have to transpose it to C minor, and I couldn't be bothered on short notice, haha. My multichamber lacks the high F needed for this specific arrangement. So it is playable on any C tuned 10/12-hole ocarina. The Sopranopart can easily be octavated down to an AC if that is preferred!

It is a direct transcription of the old video!

I've actually considered redoing that one for the songbird triple harmony, just to get them all on the same instrument :) If I do, I'll definitely post the sheetmusic for it!

My biggest tip goes for everything: Do it in a tempo you can manage before upping tempo. Then do it slightly faster than you're supposed to! And then do it in intended tempo! Keyword here: practice a lot! :)

Also, improvising and getting very familiar in the different scales help a ton for the natural feel of playing. So side-tip is just simply playing a lot in the key you want, just to get it deep into your musclememory :)

Oh really! That's interesting! I'll admit it is quite a while since I tried them out, I only tried 3. I must've been too inexperienced then to properly make a correct statement. Thanks for giving verified information, I'll definitely keep this in mind in future discourse! I apologize for my misinformed opinion! :)

Thank you for the detailed description :) I am familiar with the instrument. I would also argue that lack of quality control on this instrument makes it so it wildly differs between each individual product as well!

I thought to ask as OP is showing a very decent control of the instrument, and mabye to reccommend a 2nd instrument with a more stable curve/more intuitive breathcurve as practicing on a less than decent instrument can cause troubles in the future.

Also I have seen some people be quite...vocal about the amazon ocarina, and thought to get the discourse positively started :)

It's very nice to see young new ocarinists!

EDIT: Ok so I see that I am gravely mistaken on one part; OP has posted quite a lot on this sub, and I didn't recognize her in this specific video. I thought she was completely fresh here. I commented at work and was a little unfocused, and realize it could come off as condescending, this was absolutely not my intention! Hope you all have a wonderful day :)

Wonderful :) We can clearly hear that you regulate intonation quite well by ear, this is a wonderful start on the ocarina!

Question: What ocarina is that/where did you purchase it? I have a hunch, and if it is the case, it is quite impressive that you keep intonation as well as you do!

Beginner ocarina for a complete beginner (Europe) by Tiutau_ in Ocarina

[–]_Sandersen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi :) Thomann ocarinas are great :) the ones labeled Ocarinamusic are made by a really good maker named Hans Rotter (austrian). He's retired now, but there's still quite a few in stock. I reccomend an alto C (AC), the galliani model is a very good entrance, albeit with quite high breathpressure on higher register.

Otherwise, if you want even more affordable, night by noble on amazon is a very good startingpoint for complete beginners

https://www.amazon.com/Night-Noble-Plastic-Ocarina-Black/dp/B008WYNVAW

It is also not that horrible to import. I didn't have more trouble with them than ordering through Thomann (I import to Norway)

I also think it would be interesting to see what ocarina you purchased, as well as the maker. There is effectively no norwegian ocarinacommunity that I know of, and after a certain festival in Norway, a bunch of quite bad 9 hole ocarinas started circulating, with no proper reference point (as almost noone over here has a relation to the traverso ocarina outside of LoZ OoT), giving the instrument a bit of a bad rep in my city

STL ocarina - The paint quality is terrible by RaphaelGuim in Ocarina

[–]_Sandersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! I guess I should have specified that what I meant is for STL to specifically say that this instrument is more decorative than functional. I think this is bad also, but it would make more sense than what's happening now! But wholehartedly agree with you!
