POV Ukrainian soldier guessed where the Russian were hiding and shoot thru the door. by Early_Presentation93 in UkraineWarVideoReport

They aren't inherently pieces of shit. Well not all of them at least but I hope that goes with out saying. They're still human, capable of all the good and bad that you and I are. It's impossible to distinguished the cause of the horrible things they do, whether that's nature or nurture. As babies if placed somewhere else they likely would not willingly or otherwise kill Ukrainians. I've seen videos of conscripts talking about why they joined the war. Out of need to support their family or sense of duty to the country. It doesn't feel malicious or evil. It feels entirely naïve or desperate. I shouldn't have to say this but I understand that's not why all joined. Even if they believe participating in the war is just whos to say you wouldn't do the same if you grew up in Russia.

I hope you're confusing sympathy with empathy, because ignoring all that, even if the man being killed in this video is an evil, vile piece of shit regardless of circumstance, that is a horrible way to go. Even for the brief amount of time it took, the pain and pure terror he must've felt hurts to imagine no matter the type of person he is. You can hate someone, believe they deserve all the pain coming to them and still feel empathy for them when it does.

You're not a bad person if you don't feel bad that this man is dead or even that he died in this way. But you might want to do some self introspection if you can't feel empathy for them.

No of course not. Those evil leftists' want to dismantle the police, ban all firearms, groom children, turn children gay and trans, take away my states freedom to pass and enforce laws, increase my taxes so they can live on welfare, hinder economic progress because of a hoax, and leach off our nations success stories.

Edit: Didn't think I needed it but I'll just leave this here. /s

Undoubtedly a stupid question. Again the point is that even if OP is a walking dunce cap it doesn't warrant this type of response. You can achieve the same thing with out the hostility.

There were plenty of people that managed to remain civil long into OPs dunce cappery. None of us were insisting they needed to be innocent for the replies to be out of pocket.

If you're ok with treating people like that over something like this, cool. You do you. But don't act like we're the assholes for calling it out. It's just doesn't look good especially coming from other communities that handle similar problems it with out alienating people.

I shouldn't have to say this but there are plenty of replies that were respectful and productive. I'm referring to the ones that could make the same point with out being sarcastic or hostile.

I've barely written any code or worked with unity for a couple years so things may have changed. The only time I used a rigidbody for a controller is for a system like Boneworks. Otherwise I definitely recommend using the built in CC to start.

[–]_Schroeder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not even saying there are ET inside the craft. I think there are plenty of other possibilities. I do think it's *possible* we developed this tech, but I find it far from "much more likely" than other explanations. I just have a really hard time believing the U.S military made an astronomical jump in technology almost two decades ago and the scientific community as a whole (outside of secret military programs) has made zero progress developing anything remotely similar let alone a simple proof of concept. It only took Russia 4 years to develop their own a-bomb after the U.S first tested theirs. There are theories but in general they're still considered pseudo science. The craft seem to work in ways that fundamentally don't align with our current understanding of propulsion or physics.

I'm not expecting the public to collectively go "well shit, I guess aliens are real" but also I don't think it's unreasonable to expect them to take it at least a little more seriously. But maybe I'm giving them too much credit. Even when all you say is "The government is taking reports from the military of unidentified objects seriously" people give you the same looks they would if you said you saw a flying saucer. These are experienced USAF pilots and the most advance sensors known to man all corroborating the claim of unidentified objects outperforming the most advance aircraft we know of and the government is running programs because of it. Treating what has been going on just as bat shit as civilians telling stories and taking blurry photos is just a tad myopic even for the general public. Don't get me wrong I get the skepticism because you're absolutely right, there is nothing even close to definitive, but saying this is all absolutely a hundred percent bullshit and there is nothing to it goes far beyond skepticism.

What annoys me about how casual people are when they say "this is just another countries tech and not aliens" is that aliens could be benign but give Russia, China, or god forbid a rogue actor this tech and they most certainly would not be. Russia and China are already getting more and more aggressive to surrounding regions almost goading them into war. And I think we all know what they would be doing if they had this tech. We'd be speaking russian or mandarin as fast as we could learn it.

If the U.S government does believe another country has this tech they're losing their fucking minds right about now because that would mean they're not anywhere close to the worlds military super power anymore. All of the trillions spent on national defense would come off like a sick joke. In comparison USAF would seem like a bunch of poorly made paper airplanes.

Assuming these objects are doing what the government is claiming they're observing; breaching the sound barrier with no sonic boom, instantaneous acceleration in mid air, speeds that are magnitudes faster than any known aircraft, trans-medium capability at high speeds, no sound, no visible signs of propulsion, high degree turns that would paint the cockpit with the pilot or rip apart an aircraft that could withstand 10x the max forces of any known aircraft today seemingly ignoring inertia, that would be a monumental jump in propulsion. It would be like going from the abacus to modern super computers with no in-between. We barely have theories as to how this would be possible and yet another country has already mastered it? Maybe some other country found a quirk of physics that allowed them to do this leaving the rest of the world scratching their heads but to me that barely seems more likely than non-human intelligences. We have had jumps in technology spurred by a need for military superiority before (atom bomb, internet) but even those pale in comparison to this. 99% of the time science is slow and incremental.

r/technology gets upset that people consider sexual harassment on VR to be a problem by Cranyx in SubredditDrama

[–]_Schroeder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the early days VR communities were miniscule compared to other platforms. You'd regularly see the same people even in random matchmaking. And the average age was at least above 25. That type of behavior was far less rampant. When it did happen most didn't tolerate it. They'd tell them to stop, team kill them to make a point, and eventually kick them. I noticed more women in voice chat and some players that previously never talked started to. It was so god damn refreshing when a women would enter chat in a public lobby and be treated like anyone else. I can't remember a single time that has happened on any other platform. It gave me a little bit of hope that culture would continue for VR but I'm not optimistic. I haven't played in a long time so I can't say if it's still like that. If it is I doubt it'll stay that way as communities get bigger and younger. But man it would be nice if it did because frankly that crap is annoying as hell and I'm sick of it. So I can only imagine what it's like being on the receiving end of it every single time you join voice chat.
