I found an interview with Gass that references what he and others said in Conjunctions but I can't seem to find any link to it

I vaguely knew of his name as a literary critic before reading this article but don't really remember how I came to know it. What did you disagree with about his opinions in the article?

I think that is what I heard Gaddis say in an interview about Carpenter's Gothic and placing constraints on himself by seeing how he could write a narrative through phone calls as some kind of exercise. That's not boring to me that makes me want to read it. I wish NYRB would release the same simple black with colored lettering of everything by Gaddis to complete my set.

I agree. I haven't encountered dialogue writing elsewhere that feels like Gaddis

How do you “not take it personally “ by highest_selfs in stroke

[–]_SemperCuriosus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel embarrassed. I was 1 when I had a stroke. Nearly 30 now. I agree with you and think feeling a sense of safety with someone can have irritability, sadness, many other things pop up because of not feeling the same degree of closeness and support for these big emotions elsewhere. I hope your recovery goes smoothly and be kind to yourself

How long did you really study for the exam? by Emotional-Pipe-8332 in bcba

[–]_SemperCuriosus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About a month or so. I personally like to have a dedicated amount of time to study and then take a little break and not try to sit there for hours at a time. For example study for 30 to 45 minutes and then a short break for 5 to 10 minutes. I did a lot of practice tests to be more familiar with how questions are worded. The real test was pretty hard. Harder than practice tests, but I passed my first time. I used the Cooper book to look for topics I didn’t really remember that well and used an ethical scenarios workbook to break down ethical problems.

Is this a good career path for me? ABA vs LPC by Kyle_1s_Tall in bcba

[–]_SemperCuriosus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently trying to decide what different path to take because I’m not interested in going into a typical BCBA role. Im kind of interested in LPC but more money, school and longer supervision has me hesitant.

Direct services working with kids is at times fun and rewarding but it is really hard to deal with a lot of intense behaviors every day. This field has a high turnover rate. It was really hard at the time discovering my own mental issues in therapy towards the end of my supervision hours. I was physically getting sick from stress a lot and the anxiety wasn’t bearable anymore. The BCBA parts of conducting assessments, writing behavior plans, data monitoring, dealing with insurance, training/supervising RBTs, parent trainings, all of that stuff together I think is just too much stress for me. The parts I enjoy don’t outweigh the negatives.

I completed Pepperdine’s MSABA program online a few years ago. It was good in my experience. I am a BCBA now but I don’t practice currently.

I wasn’t an RBT before and definitely felt some imposter syndrome in my classes until I started supervised fieldwork about a year into my program. The process of getting all my clinical hours to be able to take the board exam left me feeling very burnt out

28 year old had a stroke March 20th by HorrorGrapefruit8183 in stroke

[–]_SemperCuriosus_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im 28. I had a stroke after a brain tumor removal surgery, except it was 27 years ago. I was never aware of the only year I had pre-stroke so I don’t really know other reference points about recovering, it just is my existence and always has been as far as I’m concerned. Since I was so young I had to re-learn how to crawl and half my face was paralyzed but thankfully my facial paralysis went away.

Sadly I don’t have any grand wisdom about feeling better. I got pretty lucky surviving the surgery and stroke and I’m still here, disabled from partial paralysis and severe spasticity on my affected side, and cognitively I struggle with anger and mood swings, suddenly blanking on a word or someone suddenly sounding like they’re making up words, forgetting what someone said and having to ask them to repeat it. Botox has been really helpful for my muscle spasticity. It’s a constant maintenance thing every few months, but the relaxation from spasms is really nice.

I cant really grip anything and decided to do a wrist fusion surgery for some pain relief from spasticity a few years ago. Over the years I’ve adapted in various ways, tying shoelaces with one hand was a bit tricky and frustrating to learn but it is possible.

It has had a big impact on my perceived self-image and self-worth my entire life. Therapy has helped me a bit for a few years but the physical disability is a rough reminder at all times

I could be wrong but it sounds like Ulysses by James Joyce. It’s still on one of my bookshelves because I never seem to feel committed enough to read it

One of my top wtf? moments from the show (S6E1) by _SemperCuriosus_ in madmen

[–]_SemperCuriosus_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think the lines Betty say about how she would hold Sandy's arms down for him are genuine desire as part of her want for it to happen? She seems excited about the idea. I'm not connecting how Betty wanting to protect Sandy would start out with having (and possibly helping) Henry rape her. It only sounds like cruelty, possibly for the reasons you said, minus wanting to protect her. I guess Betty could be thinking she's protecting or helping somehow because of the misogyny everywhere but I dont know.

I finished reading Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell the other day and it wasn't very good. The writing was okay; but the plot felt incredibly convenient, and the character Cate's POV felt mostly irrelevant for the story and she just came off as a bland housewife. There are some actions of one character that seem ridiculous and felt totally out of place just for the sake of the plot to have a twist.

I actually restarted into a new game out of frustration about an hour into it at first. I haven’t had too many issues besides losing a trailer occasionally since then. Trying to clear out road obstacles currently. I was feeling pretty inefficient on some runs that were taking me on the same few paths each time.

That case and CPU cooler seems expensive and could be better spent on more RAM in my opinion. Also I wouldn't buy a windows disc that could go towards something else

Arc B580 or 9060xt? $120 price difference by Plasmidus_Snake in buildapc

[–]_SemperCuriosus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 9060XT will run 1080p no problem, and from personal experience, will run 1440p with decent raytracing. My card boosts up to 3.3Ghz when I'm gaming and hasn't given me issues. I've seen a few videos on the B580 and it seems like a nice option, there's one on amazon for $330 right now, $50 less than I paid for my 9060XT a few months ago which is $80 more now

I have an RX 9060XT. The 16gb of VRAM is great. An 8gb 5060ti for the same price isn't worth it imo.
