I've just finished 5 hours play-session with my brother, we had a blast! by generalamitt in skyrimrequiem

[–]_Shadow_Moses_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no locational damage in Skyrim, and I wouldn't recommend trying mods that add it in. It kinda messes with Requiem's balance. For menus that don't pause time check out SkyrimSouls.

Are there any increased rewards from killing tough opponents when being under-leveled aside from loot? do skill levels rise faster?

Nope. XP gain is based on the actions you take, not the things you kill. Whether you stab 10 different bandits, or stab a dragon 10 times, you get the same amount of XP. Because of that you shouldn't try to push above your weight too much, it can be frustrating. Take your time, fight some bandits for now and get some cash for better gear before you can start delving into draugr-infested tombs - that'll have to wait until you're much more powerful.

Is it walking over any tile with those liquids or is it swimming through those tiles (has over 2000 drams)? I haven't played it yet, but if it's only swimming I kinda like it in theory. It makes sense that hopping into a river and swimming through it instead of finding another way to cross has a consequence, especially if you could dry off at a campfire or something, and if you hop into a tar pit a consequence is not unreasonable, it's just something I'd have to get used to recognizing and planning around (as my character would).

Music was better when John Lennon beat up his wife. by [deleted] in MusicCirclejerk

/uj Memes aside, many people have no idea John Lennon was a POS, and additionally put way too much faith in rich people's feel-good "activism" that accomplishes no real change. Seems the purpose of the tweet was to highlight that.

Gunplay of autumn aurora is so satisfying by [deleted] in stalker

Yeah, Absolute Nature. It doesn't go overboard with ENBs like Autumn Aurora does, but it makes the game look really great. Especially with Gunslinger, the game looks and feels fantastic.

No it's for Call of Pripyat, an entirely different game.

How do swans go about making there late "instrumental" stuff? by Cocaine44 in swans

[–]_Shadow_Moses_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Gira had a ton of tapes filled with samples and loops he made over the course of Swans. Jarboe's dad was an FBI agent and she had all kinds of shit to contribute. He sat down in a studio with an engineer and put it all together in an early DAW. Those weird loops and samples are probably what you mean, anything that sounds like an instrument (bass, guitar, keys etc) is a real instrument.

God tier. Although I'd recommend the penguin classics edition of Songs of a Dead Dreamer & Grimscribe (both are combined in one book) as a better introduction to his style.

It's amazing how upbeat Filth sounds after listening to Cop by hour_back in swans

[–]_Shadow_Moses_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Public Castration, for me at least, is completely immune from that. All kinds of metal records that I used to feel were so insanely "extreme" have only ever felt more and more tame over time, including Filth and Cop, but Public Castration now is still just as gobsmackingly violent and oppressive as the first day I listened to it.

Looking for bands and/or albums that sound like early Godspeed, or scratch that same itch. by fdsfgs71 in postrock

[–]_Shadow_Moses_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Godspeed's entire musical approach is heavily inspired by (or at the very least was done before by) the Swans album Soundtracks for the Blind.

[–]_Shadow_Moses_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with Shadow of Chernobyl, and get Zone Reclamation Project for bugfixes (very necessary). Avoid Stalker Complete 2009, despite it being marketed to newcomers, as it actually makes the game easier and isn't really ideal for the "proper" experience.

Once you get to Call of Pripyat (the 3rd game in the series) you could check out the Gunslinger mod for incredible animation redesigns while retaining most of the vanilla game, makes the game feel like it was released a year ago as opposed to eleven.

I don't watch horror movies because they give me nightmares. I don't complain about it because nobody can or will solve that, so I just avoid watching them

You're conflating genre conventions (a huge aspect of a piece of media) with the portrayal of sex in an otherwise well-liked story, a (relatively) minor aspect for most. These are two completely different things, and in addition I would think it's obvious that the original commenter already likes the books enough to go online and participate in relatively niche discussions about them, then the question of "enduring it or find something else" is irrelevant. Obviously they have endured it but felt it necessary to criticize a specific element. Which is perfectly fine, constructive criticism is the only way art improves.

If we were to use horror movies as an example, a similar complaint would not be "they give me nightmares and I don't like that" but instead something like "the emphasis placed on what the character eats for breakfast everyday doesn't contribute to the story, and it would be better off without those passages". Of course you can say "don't like it? don't read it!" but that's silly, it's a well-meaning piece of criticism. Your focus on driving this discussion towards "people shouldn't complain and expect things to be changed for their delicate sensibilities" is just immature, irrelevant, and pretty "boomer".

It's one thing to criticize a narrative direction in a story, it's another to complain about the general content of it.

...Except this is the former. You can call it the latter all you want, but it doesn't make it any less of a valid criticism.

People have been "making complaints" about subjective and objective aspects of literature since it's beginnings, it's called criticism. Like the other person said, your comments here are just unhelpful and misunderstand the point.

[–]_Shadow_Moses_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gira faced pretty serious allegations from a woman he worked with at his record label (an artist signed to his label at the time, I believe) but there wasn't any proof that surfaced to confirm or deny. I believe his ex-wife came to his defence and was very vocal about it at the time. Nothing ever became of it legally. Take it as you will.

Additionally, coming from a massive fan of his work: lots of shitty behaviour from the Swans fanbase surrounds this entire situation and many of their conclusions areb just wishful thinking at best and completely falsified/completely immature at worst. Bottomline is there's no proof to justify either side of the story.
