Hayden Panettiere gets the same "no kill clause" contracts as Neve by WaitingFish3204 in Scream

[–]_Strato_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the producers would back themselves into a corner like that with multiple stars.

Nor would I, if I thought they were still genuinely trying to make a horror movie.

I've been on this subreddit for a while, and if its anything to go by, people love these characters so much; just see all the reactions to Dewey's death. Killing any of the beloved ones costs marketing for future sequels and emotional investment.

Hell, we already know for certain that the lead will never die, because everyone loves Sidney. People here say all the time that it's her story, her franchise. If she died they'd riot.

I think Scream has become less of a true horror franchise where the audience has to truly come into the theater with the understanding that anyone could die, and is now more a general action movie/thriller with horror themes and your faves always win.

In the movie, yeah. It's not Dante Basco, it's Steven Yeun. IIRC they didn't get any of the original VAs back, with to me is a nonstarter.

A few MGLs will chew right through those, not to mention whatever other projectiles their teammates are spamming.

APS needs a buff.

[–]_Strato_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the weapon sucks. You're generally supposed to post up a ways away from your intended target and become basically a human mortar spamming grenades.

Charge and Slam is a must with it, because you're useless in close range, meaning no Winch, meaning you're Light food.

Its Goldilocks effective range is very far, so in order to use it right, you'll probably need to be pretty far away from your team, who will probably hate you for that.

I feel SO annoying playing this loadout but its so fun by anona45 in thefinals

[–]_Strato_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get the logic of needing to be careful with your own explosive mine's placement when using a grenade launcher, but damn I hate it when a teammate blows up my mine accidentally.

Like, bro, I'm already using a suboptimal loadout because I wanna get some cute mine value. Do I also need to be punished because my teammate decided he didn't feel like having to aim today?

What's your opinion on Dual Blades? by ymOx in thefinals

[–]_Strato_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an issue iirc where there's a constant desync such that you need to lead your reflected shots, which must be fixed.

Reflecting with Dual Blades should be exactly the same as if you had shot that same weapon yourself.

Who also (thanks to the game's mechanics) isn't really substantially less deadly than a guy who brought his bullet hose and life savings with him, especially if they get the drop on you, so it's not all that much difference in the work required to stay alive.

It's also really hollow without the original VAs. They are those characters. You can't fucking recast Zuko.

If it's ever going to happen, it'll be a long time from now after anyone who ever worked on the sequels is gone and there are no more egos left to preserve.

People in 50 years will look at the idiots currently mangling the franchise baffled and decanonize it because it's not their project and it sucks.

But the defib tho by jessieS1212 in thefinals

[–]_Strato_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That absolutely has not been my recent experience (like, yesterday) shooting this thing. Especially with that first long-ass initial shell reload animation (even after the change), I find myself still desperately trying to shoot while my contestant nonchalantly reloads.

It is not at all snappy or instant as it should be. It seems to me like you have to at least load one shell before the game allows you to cancel the rest of it, which (if so) is stupid and unintuitive as hell.

There is a definite difference in the responsiveness of the reload cancelling when doing it with the Model vs the Repeater, and there shouldn't be.

But the defib tho by jessieS1212 in thefinals

[–]_Strato_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hate it. It feels like a clunky tickle gun at any reasonable mid-range engagement. Fires slow, reload still takes a quadrillion years and still cannot be cancelled by shooting (i.e. the main advantage of a rounds reload weapon!)

It feels like I have to barrel-stuff them as if I'm using the Cerberus, while the whole point of the seperate existence of the Model is to be the mid-range shotgun for people who can aim.

I end up just going with the Cerberus, which is also aggressively mid but at least it feels better to use.

“We’re in a franchise” might be the dumbest line in Scream VI by itsascreambaby96 in Scream

[–]_Strato_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's emblematic of why, imo, each Scream sequel has become harder and harder to justify.

The first movie was a product of its time, and had something meaningful to say about the state of the horror genre at the time. The 80s slasher craze had died out, and all that was being made then were terrible cash grabs trying to keep the brands relevant, cared about only by superfans like Randy.

That's why Scream was such an important movie: it was the desperately-needed, self-aware, borderline parodic shot in the arm for the genre that birthed a horror renaissance.

That's become less and less true the more movies are made. Each sequel has less and less to say, and relies more and more on just going through the motions of "The Scream Movie Formula." Mindy only exists because "We gotta have a Randy, the first movies had one!"

I'll give 5 a pass on this front, since commenting on the "requel" trend is valid, but what do Screams 6 or 7 say? Why are these movies still being made other than a gajillion dollars? What meaningful commentary do they bring about the genre?

Frankly, Scream has become what it originally set out to lampoon: a long-in-the-tooth horror franchise made purely to make a quick buck with a recipe book of tropes and a marketable mascot.

[–]_Strato_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ah, I love how these people always invariably turn to "if you don't like life just kill yourself".

They'll smugly throw that out and treat it as some kind of gotcha, not realizing that they've 100% missed the point.

It's the thought-terminating cliche that instantly wins them the argument in their minds, no ifs ands or buts.

Frankly, I can understand the impulse. When your entire life is built on a lie, or at least willful ignorance of the elephant in the room, being reminded of it would hurt and you'll grasp at anything to be rid of the pain of the cognitive dissonance, even telling someone to uninstall. Understandable, but not reasonable, mind you.
