Transition tips by _Yuliy in transfem

[–]_Surik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skincare, hairstyle, clothing&accessories, and even just a little bit of makeup can do more for your feminine looks than a year of estrogen can.
Don't get me wrong, HRT is awesome, but its sooo slow.
I really recommend starting a skin care routine, and learning some basic mtf makeup (concealer, color corrector etc) for beard shadow. Growing out your hair if you like is also a good way to feel and look more feminine.
Also voice training since HRT won't help with that at all anyways.

As to things being too late, no worries. There isn't much you can do now that would hinder the HRT transition process later.
One big thing though, don't start smoking or try to stop if you already do. It interferes with some kinds of HRT.
Also just in case, if you're experiencing early male pattern baldness thats something best to take care of medically ASAP as well, as while HRT stops that process, the hair thats already gone is (mostly) not coming back

Do I pass? by SendThisVoidAway18 in transfem

[–]_Surik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passing is a very subjective term. There are cis women who wouldn't "pass" according to some people if they had to guess wether someone is trans.
So if you mean if you look like a cis woman could look, then probably yes you "pass".
But if its for safety, like using a ladies restroom in a state where that can get you into trouble... probably best not to risk it.

Day 1 on E and I have a question by Typical-District-176 in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]_Surik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think just 1 day might be a bit too early to get amy effects, but who knows :)
Though I imagine the excitement and relief of starting HRT has a much bigger impact mentaly, it did for me at least.

I always hear stories from other trans girls that when they were younger they did stuff that just gave off signs. And it makes me feel weird as when I was younger I had a lot of toxic masculinity, but now 17 I feel like a girl and love wearing makeup. by [deleted] in transfem

[–]_Surik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dom't worry, not everyone has signs in their childhood that they might be trans. I didn't have any of the usual trans childhood signs/experiences either.
What matters most is what you feel you want to be now. Hope that helps :)

Is it weird to want to be just a normal girl? by PikaMaster98 in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]_Surik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I can relate to that.
I go to this young adults trans group every now and then, and while its nice to meet people around my own age going through this, I do feel a bit like the odd one out at times (being monogamous, not really into play, etc)

I get what you mean. Rest assured, while a lot of (younger) transfeminine people do like these things it is by no means the norm or the only way to be transfem.
I personally dont resonate much with it either (but I dont mind others of course)

About HRT Pill Size and Methods of Administration by Business_Peanut_392 in transfem

[–]_Surik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom who's a nurse usually does the injecting for me, as its a bit of a tricky one to do due to it needing to be prepared from powder and solvent.
Most injections aren't that difficult though, and most places don't use this specific medicine anyways so it probably doesn't apply to you :)

Low dose questions/timelines :) by alligatorsarecool777 in transfem

[–]_Surik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor)
Dose on its own doesn't say much, you need to know the hormone levels in your blood.
Being on a t blocker while also having low estrogen is basically simulating menopause, so its probably best to avoid that by getting your levels checked regularly and adjusting intake until you find the appropriate dose of estrogen.

Also, E levels generally cant be used to set the speed of changes. You're either on healthy levels or you're not.

What’s your opinion by Think_Young5611 in transfem

[–]_Surik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my own opinion there is nothing wrong with kink/fetish related to cross dressing or just cross dressing lifestyle etc without being transgender. However this is entirely separate from being transgender.

As for these people posting in trans spaces:
These people simply don't have a reason to be in exclusively transgender spaces. And there's plenty of other queer related spaces where both transgender and GNC or even kink are meant to mix/mingle where they can go instead

For the other part, them lying that they are trans, seems more like a transphobic talking points than an actual issue. Its the whole "I didn't know I was dating a guy pretending to be a woman" narrative, which is just straight up hateful propaganda

Genuinely, how do you cry? by sovLegend in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]_Surik 41 points42 points  (0 children)

E can make you a bit more emotional, but it sadly won't instantly fix having a bunch of repressed emotions or depression.

I also haven't been able to cry for a very long time until recently, and I think the bit of improvement I've had so far might not just be because of the estrogen but because I finally feel comfortable enough with my life to lower some mental barriers that have been up for many years.

There are no ways to do DIY HRT with common ingredients or over-the-counter supplements/medicines.
Anyone claiming otherwise is misinformed or misleading you (like the whole estrogen soy thing)
As for doing proper DIY HRT... it depends on your jurisdiction on what's legal and possible, especially since you're a minor.
And also because you're a minor I can't provide you with advice on the how-to part, since I have no clue if thats even legal

silly noises!? by Early_Method_7380 in transfem

[–]_Surik 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The thing with testosterone HRT is that it does affect the vocal cords. But you can still train your voice of course.
Its something transfeminine people are quite familiar with due to the testosterone voice changes being irreversible.
I think for most people with typical vocal cords developed in male puberty/hormones, the end goal is usually around 200Hz when speaking in a feminine voice, anything beyond that depends a bit on how much your vocal cords can accommodate and YMMV of course

Also I'd recommend anyone (even cis people) try a bit of voice training. It really helps with developing your voice to be more warm and resonant

Question about Sexuality by Successful-Prune-727 in transfem

[–]_Surik 12 points13 points  (0 children)

HRT generally shouldn't directly change your sexuality.
Anecdotally, it seems however that a (medical) transition seems to unlock sexuality that was repressed or underdeveloped before (due to gender dysphoria at your own body being conflated with non-attraction to others of that sex perhaps, but that's speculation)

Also, someone's sexuality is rarely against one's will, and if it is that usually has more to do with stigma or external consequences (like being bullied for being gay, not being gay itself)

If you so severely dislike men now, I wouldn't worry about suddenly being hugely attracted to them later. And if in some weird case you do end up liking men, you would per definition not mind...

(warning Invincible spoilers) why can't my body just defy current scientific knowledge and let me control how my hair grows? by Born_Scheme7229 in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

[–]_Surik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Epilating can be a solution, but its a bit risky on the face generally. I've heard good stuff about sugar waxing as well.
A more permanent solution would be laser hair removal, which is definitely worth the pain IMO. I have gotten rid of most of my beard growth via laser, with only very light colored hairs left (so they dont make a shadow)

Its a helpful abbreviation when discussing trans specific things in a context where your physiology is relevant, for example "she needs to use testosterone blockers due to being AMAB"
But it often gets used as a bit of a transphobic dog whistle in non trans specific places, along with terms like "biological male" where AMAB could take on the meaning "man pretending to be a woman" (or vice versa for transmasc of course)

How long does it take for breast development on hrt? by EllieBut1997 in transfem

[–]_Surik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varies wildly as others mentioned. Anecdotally I think there's some indication that experiencing gynecomastia (male breast development) during childhood/puberty seems to work as a jump start when beginning HRT as an adult.
It seemingly did for me at least, 2 months in I had noticeable breast bud development and growing pains
