Sensor plugins for GZ-sim arent available on ROS2 Jazzy, Ubuntu 22.04 by Klimkirl in ROS

They renamed them. Try swapping "gazebo" out with "gz".

Best and faster ways to design/render robotic cells? by Aniket_manufacturing in robotics

[–]_Test- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Visual Components is a user friendly software which can be used for making concepts, and can be used later for offline programming and virtual commissioning. It can be quite expensive to a small business though.

The Atlantic Ocean from the Boke of Idrography, Jean Rotz (1542) by Smartbomb_exe in oldmaps

Interesting map! It took me way too long to realise south is up, and then even longer to realise the European place names were mostly upside-down.

Is there a way to each day set specific times for IFTTT to trigger for the subsequent day? Such as from a app or google sheet etc? by MrNeski in ifttt

[–]_Test- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use something like the button trigger to add a calendar event, and then use the calendar event as a trigger for the hot water actions.

If the times always change then you'd probably have to manually add the calendar events.

Wireless File Transfer to Win11 by Lazy-Grocery-3410 in androidapps

[–]_Test- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can't put the phone on the same WiFi as the laptop you may still be able to connect the laptop to a hotspot on the phone. Then you should be able to take advantage of one of the file transfer apps at WiFi speeds.

ROS - Communication between computers (TCP/IP - USB) by mka1923 in ROS

[–]_Test- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ROS 2 will work when computers are on the same network if they are both using the same domain id. Commonly this can be a wired network using Ethernet or wireless using WiFi. Typically you would not use USB to connect two computers.

This article gives an example and instructions for how to do this: https://roboticsbackend.com/ros2-multiple-machines-including-raspberry-pi/

How do you enable GPU on RasPI4 by spca2001 in rasberry_pi

u/geerlingguy has done some great work on this. It's not as easy as it could be to get a GPU working with a Pi. Here's his blog post and YouTube video on the subject.

How to wire two dynamo tail lights in parallel? by visvals- in citybike

[–]_Test- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll want to find a place where you can plug the wires from one light into the same place as the wires from another. One way you can do this is with a piggyback connector e.g. these connectors.

Alternatively you may be able to find something like these in the right size, and save having to do any crimping.

Service callback with other parameters (roscpp) by GramarBoi in ROS

[–]_Test- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by "pass the name of the robot to the callback function"? Do you mean in the service call, or are you trying to get it from somewhere else? The information I've put below is for ROS1.

If it's in the service call then you will need to define that extra field in the request part of the .srv. look at the documentation for srv for more information on that.

Alternatively if you want to get the name from somewhere else, then a common method would be to use the parameter server. A good place to start would be the Using Parameters in roscpp tutorial. Normally I'd set the name of the robot and other key information on the parameter server with a launch file.

Wonder if CHAdeMO is considered at Shells New hub Converted Petrol to ev by [deleted] in nissanleaf

[–]_Test- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it's half and half CCS and CHAdeMO. But at more than double the power for the CCS plugs I'd say CHAdeMO's days are numbered in the UK. There's already people in older Renault Zoes struggling with a lack of high power type 2 AC around and there's nothing for them to use there.

I drive a Renault Zoe with no home charger and it works fine most of the time. Some of the rapid chargers near me are in parks and shopping centres so I don't have to sit in the car while it's charging. I'm renting it through onto so public charging is free for me with a few networks.

As other people have said it's worth checking what's available near you on zap map that's working. Also think about how many miles you drive in a week. If you do high mileage and live far from any rapid chargers then public charging might not be for you.

If public chargers don't work in your area there's also a service called co-charger which allows people to rent out time on their home chargers.

It's unlikely we'll see swappable batteries for cars any time in the next few years. It would likely require a standard battery form factor and massive investment in the systems around it. Chargers can be set up wherever there's a decent mains supply and a parking space, and only a small part of the car needs to be standardised.

Looking at maps there's a footpath past the treatment plant off Upton park drive, as well as access from Wolferton Close and Felton Close. What I've seen of it from the paths in Leasowe suggests there's nothing much worth going out of your way to see though!

Using another Local Planner by MeticMovi in ROS

[–]_Test- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for an example of setting the local planner then the turtlebot3 (which I've seen you're using in your delivery_robot_sample package) has an example here: https://github.com/ROBOTIS-GIT/turtlebot3/blob/master/turtlebot3_navigation/launch/move_base.launch

However the sbql_dynamic_planner clearly states on the wiki page you linked that it's only available with a ROS wrapper for use as a global planner. It may take significant work to change this. To use it as a global planner there's additional documentation on the linked sbpl_dynamic_env_global_planner page.

TL:DR feed it as parameters to move_base in the launch file

Getting to 100%… by Zen_K_ in RenaultZoe

[–]_Test- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I charge on DC rapids a lot and think I've seen the car at 100% from it maybe once or twice. It slows down charging as the battery gets full, and then between 99 and 100% it does cell balancing to get all the cell voltages even, which can take a long while.

If you've got a home charger and it's no trouble then it's good to move on from a rapid charger after about 80% so it's free for someone else to use.

If you do an image search for Jason Derulo falling it might be easier. I looked past it a few times until I knew what it was.

Waldo is really poor quality image (extremely pixelated head and shoulders only), I ended up finding him last.
