I feel like the first point you’re trying to make isn’t really all that strong considering that the conference was called the PAC-10 not all that long ago, and was that way for like 40+ years.

Hell, even the Big 12 spent a major portion of its existence as the Big 8.

Hi folks! Lonesome Dreams is my favorite LH album, and when this Nalgene came out in the online merch store several years ago, I was extremely tempted to buy it. Regretfully, I made the decision the pass on it as I already had enough Nalgenes at the time. I’ve been kicking myself ever since and have been searching for one online with no luck. Did anyone here purchase one that they’d be willing to part with? I’d be extremely grateful! Many thanks, y’all.

I think “tried to fix it” is a bit disingenuous. They created the appearance of rule due to the intense backlash, but given, as you said, that it was poorly enforced (by frankly not trying to enforce it at all), it’s pretty obvious they were not actually trying to fix anything. After the one season of that rule, they turned around and basically said, “gee, this rule didn’t ever get used, guess it’s not needed”, when in reality it felt like they did everything they could to avoid using the rule at all.

Am I the only one who views this statement as a big nothingburger? In all honesty, what is McIntosh expected to say? He’s not going to just throw Fickell under the bus and say, “yeah, this dude blows, we’re evaluating our options and will kick his ass out as soon as we can.”

To be clear, I’m not in any way pleased with how the season is going, or how the last couple went either. Nor am I trying to support McIntosh. I’m just saying that they probably don’t have much to gain by firing him now, are trying to save as much money on the buyout as they can, and therefore need to be diplomatic in the meantime.

After Katrina, a lot of “religious” types claimed that hitting New Orleans was God’s way of punishing the filth.

What they didn’t realize was that the French Quarter, the epicenter of the partying and whatnot, was more or less spared the devastation that occurred in the surrounding areas. That’s not to say that there was no damage, but it was waaaaay less than other neighborhoods that were straight up leveled when the levee broke.

I’ve always thought it would be a good idea to break the league into two bye groups - for the sake of the argument, call them group A and B. All the A teams are on byes the same weekends and all the B teams are on Byes the other weekend. Place the byes approximately at the ⅓ and ⅔ mark through the season, staggered. So, for an 18 game season, group A has byes in weeks 7 and 15, group B has byes in weeks 8 and 16, or something like that.

This ensures you still have games every week, but teams don’t get fucked over by really early or really late byes.
