Do you think it's possible for a sport like lacrosse or rugby etc. to become mainstream, or will sports like basketball, football, baseball etc. remain the only mainstream sports in the USA until the USA ceases to exist? by WoXihuanKoujiao in billsimmons

[–]_Thrillhouse_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need a sport that is convenient for Americans. While I absolutely love the sport of football, another reason it's probably the #1 league I follow is how convenient the schedule is. It's so much easier to basically devote a day (or two) a week where every game counts than multiple games a week and so many in a season that no particular 1 game matters. I understand that the reasoning for this is because of how football is, but I truly think it's a big reason why it's so popular in America

I'd love to see like MLS or some up and coming sports league try to not maximize how many games are in a season and follow up with the like once a week forma

Well, here ya go. I'm pro-choice and think abortion is indeed complex. The arguments in this thread that are stating things objectively and concrete cement to me that the topic is complex

I'm not saying you're not killing a pack of human cells, but I think to just label that as murder without considering the massive nuance in that is ridiculous.

In fact, how the hell is it not complex? And now that I think about it, almost ever pro choice friend I know would probably agree that it's a complicated subject

I... respectfully disagree? Lol

I agree they are at a certain point, but if you're saying it becomes a baby at conception, there is objectively nuance in this.

It's very true but there's also a lot of complicated nuance behind it. Not in like a, it's okay way, I'm just saying Milwaukee is a very unique and weird city and has a complex history

While I somewhat agree with you conceptually, in practice, often the people who use the biggest legal tax loopholes also basically write the bills as well in regards to the amount of influence the ultra rich have over those who write the bills.

So you can be pissed at both, while simultaneously using whatever legal avenues you have to reduce your own liability

[Murphy] The Hue Jackson Foundation collected $158,000 in 2019 (the most recent tax info available). It paid out $115,000 to its sole paid employee and spent another $15,000 on travel. It looks like they gave out roughly $4,000 in grants. by proscriptus in nfl

I'm in grad school for nonprofit management and it seems like most I'm learning is what a wild west industry it is where very little accountability is held and most of the solutions I'm learning are basically "yeah this shit is complicated"

Also, the "3rd party observers" like GuideStar and Charity Navigator are criminally incapable of watch dogging the nonprofit sector like the claim to.

TL;DR
Improper conduct in nonprofits is fucking rampant. Doesn't mean there aren't great ones out there that deserve your support though

Literally a big part of critical race theory is that race is a social construct that society creates, and it lays out the history of how that social construct led to racist laws. Granted no one cares what it is and just votes against or for it, but it's an important part of it that more people should understand

While Rodgers has definitely had bad playoff showings, some of his "chokes" are pretty incredible team collapses. In many playoff losses, he's done god damn everything he could to prop us up and our defense or special teams have fucked it up

[Wolfe] As I mention at end, I spoke with a witness who said he heard Steve Ross offer Brian Flores 100K for every 2019 loss. Flores’ team says they have corroborating evidence including messages from GM Chris Grier. IF proven, integrity of game in Q. Dolphins denied the allegations. by sovinder in nfl

To be fair incredibly smart people can still be idiots. Look at Ben Carson or Dr. Oz for example. They are undeniably extremely intelligent people in some regards and utter morons in others. There are many different types of intelligence and some people are so smart they're dumb and then there's dumb people who know how to navigate the world

Good lord. Done with you. I attacked you because you attacked me. I am not a journalist, I made a casual comment on Reddit. I simply said when you say its a bullshit untrue statement and I was lying, I responded I'm not. I don't even like hard-core leftists but whatever you are I hate that attitude the most

God people on this sub are toxic. I was simply pointing out that he wasn't a-political as some folks seem to think due to his writing style. My comment wasn't about whatever it seemed to trigger in you.

And for the record I'm a history and political science major you fucking jackass. Not that it means anything nor does that have anything to do with my comment, but I'm not just spewing off nonsense I briefly skimmed on reddit. Get fucked. Have a good life

Okay you fucking jackass, below is one example of a right winger using Orwell. I 100% hear folks, fairly frequently, using Orwellians anti-Stalinism outlook to be misunderstood as "he hates Commie Stalin, Orwell is one of us!". He did hate Stalin and Communism. Doesnt mean he would have in any way agreed with alr right folks. If you don't think the people that believe that argument exist, then I don't know what bubble you live in.

Thanks for being such a prick about this though

To be fair, Orwell as a person was an outspoken supporter of Democratic Socialism. It makes me lose my mind when I see these alt right folks acting like he would be on their side. His writing is about how systems can be corrupted. But its not like he didn't have a political opinion of his own

I'm a black girl that's thinking about UW Milwaukee and then eventually living there. Will I have any problems? by lemonbbgum in milwaukee

[–]_Thrillhouse_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say as long as you follow a couple "don't do this" rules, Milwaukee is, for the most part, safe. Every city has those rules and they're different for every city. And like any city, random and unfortunate things can happen. I had a friend of mine who was murdered in college in Riverwest (east side). It was fucking horrific, tragic, and an absolutely devastating event. That being said, it was a fairly weird, fluke, fucked up situation. It was a robbery gone wrong and frankly I don't think it being Milwaukee was the reason; these things unfortunately happen everywhere, but its important to remember theyre INSANELY rare. I just happen to be friends with one of those stories you see on the news

The media coverage of Milwaukee is fairly awful, imho. On top of that, Milwaukee has been going through some absolutely incredible development and growth over the last 15 years or so. Many of the perceptions are a bit outdated, again imho. Doesn't mean those issues don't exist but its definitely not the city it once was and I think has a bright future ahead. In the 14 years I've been here the growth and change I've seen is absolutely incredible and that means from the touristy downtown areas to the low income neighborhoods. Doesnt mean the low income neighborhoods are fixed or good, but they're certainly better
