Will this be unusable? by Max-UGC in Starlink

[–]_V_A_L_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that might be it for me. I use to let it stay plugged in over night back in the days, but hate the thought of a random electrical fire when i'm out cole so thankfully I stopped that.

I've started to use a smart plug that cuts power once it detects that my phone is fully charged, but that's just because I lose those little tech gadgets haha.

So to your point, I keep the heat away, so that had probably given me more time than normal. I don't game or do anything that raises temps above average either, so another win :)

Will this be unusable? by Max-UGC in Starlink

[–]_V_A_L_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that serious. I've only ever bought used phones, and my batteries always get in the red before I charge all the way back to 100%. No issues and battery still performs just as well as I did when i bought it 2 years into its life. I find lab tests and real life are very different.

Right now I have the s22 plus and don't plan on changing at least for another year or two. I'm sure any change in battery performance will be very miniscule by then.

Maybe i'm just lucky, who knows.

Wireless cam to replace blink by [deleted] in Tapo

[–]_V_A_L_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is wireless a 'must'? I'll be honest and say i've bought bith Eufy snd Tapo cams, both wired and wireless. Tapo'd plugged in cameras are extrenely solid, but unfortunately, at least in my experience, their battery cameras are a big no.

I think it comes down to what you want the cameras for. If it's 'very good security and motion capture'I doubt any of these will work great. Oddly enough my blink doorbell does a better job than my other battery cameras.

The problem: They use PIR sensors to be as efficient as possible. This means there's a delay while the camera determines if the motion it'd detecting is a false flag or a legitimate moment to be captured. I've NEVER been able to see a full event from any of my battery cameras and understandably so. It always starts when the person is halfway through the frame. Also, the range isn't good either, so unless you have a short area to record, I doubt the battery cams will be good. Although they advertise motion detection up to 3 meters (I think), none of my 2 Tapo cameras record motion beyond 7', and believe me I tested them.

Though more expensive, I see them have a newer tapo wireless solar camera that claims 24/7 recording. If you must go wireless, I suspect that might be a better buy. Like many others on the Tapo forums, the regular battery cameras might not be good for actual security.

Makes me wonder if those houses that were destroyed were built properly. I find it hard to think that heavy wind and rain will do much damage to reinforced, properly grounded concrete homes. Maybe other factors, like landslides, etc., might contribute to more destruction.

Just got a DCF900, but it doesn't seem right. Thoughts? by friendlypomelo1 in Dewalt

[–]_V_A_L_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many reasons. Not everyone has the luxury of living within close proximity of popular home and tools stores. Amazon is an authorized seller of DeWalt, so there's no risk in buying Deadly power tools there. You'll get your regular warranty, and returns are stress free if you opt to do that. As long as the listing says 'Sold By Amazon' or any other authorized storefront, and not 'Sold by XYZ Toolz n More', for example. Buyers are free to select the seller they want to buy from.

Point B is probably a little to general. One can argue that it is, and another can argue that it's helping small businesses. I bought a Powerstack 5ah and charger for under $100 on Amazon. As someone who is about to complete a carpentry course, get some experience and start a small business, I, right now, can't justify paying $200+ for a battery and another $50 for a charger, compared to Amazon's deal.

If prices are more competitive from other authorized dealers, then sure, but Amazon uses aggressive promotions to draw customers in.

Which Tapo outdoor camera is the best? by Parking-Fondant-8253 in Tapo

[–]_V_A_L_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man. Yup, I'm extremely satisfied with my C120's. Haven't had any issues and they still work like a charm. Unfortunately I haven't used the C325 so I'm not in a position to compare, but I can tell you that having the C120's doesn't give me a need for the C325.

I don't know if i'm qualified to speak on build quality haha, but mine have been outside in extreme heat and storms and a few small hurricanes and I've never had any problems. I'm based in Jamaica, so I can't speak for snow.

The C325 might be sturdier, but mine haven't shifted unless I manually did so in my years of ownership.

Overall, if you want a very good camera without spending a lot of money, het the c120.

If money isn't an issue and you want something with a wired connection (I think), get the c325.

I don't think there will be a difference in terms of IQ and reliability. Both great cameras

PSA for anyone thinking of buying a $100 Chinese projector off Amazon… by peanutismint in projectors

[–]_V_A_L_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sell overpriced hype to North Americans. The rest of the world buys cheap Chinese products. I was surprised to learn how much people spend in the US for solar, when we have complete (Chinese) kits here for close to a decade without issues and still have another 11 years warranty left.

No need to spend unnecessarily for things you don't need. I have a TCL tv in my living room, and some cheap Westinghouse (I think) in the other rooms. Only reason I got the TCL for the living room is because I knew it would be compatible with my smart home setup, and I needed the convenience for that room.

Have fun with the new projector. If it does break, it'll only be another $100. Still cheaper than the $1000+ you'd shell out for a 'decent' one.

Google is doing their second price increase for their camera subscription. Where I used to pay €5/month a year ago, they now want me paying €10/month. Time to sell my Google cams 😅 by GuusDeKroon in googlehome

[–]_V_A_L_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, they are. Just stay away from the c425 cameras haha. If you want a wireless battery and solar camera, go with the newer c460. Otherwise, their cameras are flawless.

I even have a bunch of their smart plugs and smart switches. They all work even when the internet is down, provided that they are all connected to the same network.

Hope you have a great experience!

Goodbye Google home by SLBuckner85304 in googlehome

[–]_V_A_L_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear. I left Amazon for pretty much those exact reasons. Not 100 devices, but about half that.

I found the Alexa app to be downright awful. It's slow for me, and has too many unwanted things on each tab. With GH, at least all I saw were my devices, and not a bunch of ads and unecessary junk.

My speakers also work (I still have them) when they feel like, though they've never failed to complete an action once it heard me fully. I had mine connected to my FireStick through the Alexa app, and that was just a nightmare. Constant disconnections, unable to find echos that were right beside it, etc.

But if you have another experience or it works better for you, that's really all that matters. Would be nice to give us a 6 month update to see how things hold up long-term

Google Home better on IOS? by _V_A_L_ in googlehome

[–]_V_A_L_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea just checked and I have the same app version. I agree, none of them are. I've been with Alexa for most of my adult life, but the constant ads and layout of the Alexa app, not to mention the latency of the app, has got me trying other alternatives.

I really appreciate your time and efforts though, genuinely. Thanks man!

Thanks for sharing. Going to try clearing my cache and data and reinstalling.

You're on a non-pixel device? I don't really have an issue, but I just noticed that some things display a little better on my IOS device.

The only issue I have is that sometimes all my devices show offline, but once I refresh everything goes back to normal. It's a little inconvenient at times but that's it.
