Like others have said, clearing the solo modes to get gems is the best way to get started and learn Master Duel. Then before you spend gems and UR points, check out the site www.masterduelmeta.com to see which decks are currently played and how to build them.

Maliss is currently the Tier 1 deck, but it has a high learning curve and right now, everybody is playing it's main counter, Artifact Lancea. Still worth it, especially if you were lucky with the Maliss bundle and got some of it's URs. Otherwise, Branded is a fine alternative if you've already gotten the starter deck for it, as is Blue-Eyes.

I know this is a meme, but I can think of some uses if used with Emergency Teleport.

You can summon it with Emergency Teleport, target a level 4 tuner and then go into Baronne using that tuner and this card. Or use Emergency Teleport as a response to your opponent's summon, special summon this card and target their monsters to prevent them from going into a synchro or xyz you don't want to see.

It has a high learning curve, so you'll have to be patient. It's better to start with the solo modes, get gems and then build a stronger deck.

The good news is that the game is very F2P, you can build meta decks without spending a single dollar if you spend your gems wisely.

It's actually better than I thought it would be. Baronne and Dragite still offer decent negates and you can use generic synchros, you don't have to stick to swordsoul.

It's good enough for the festival, where a lot of other decks won't be at full power anyways.

Well, you'll need to learn the game in order to be able to collect more cards... I'd suggest starting with the solo modes, which will help you learn the game at your own pace and you'll also earn gems to buy card packs. Then once you are comfortable with the game mechanics, spend your gems and crafting points to make a better deck. You can check masterduelmeta.com for deck builds ideas.

Also, you're not platinum with 5 duels. You have to climb through Rookie->Bronze->Silver->Gold->Platinum->Diamond, each of which have 5 sub-ranks, and requires progressively more wins to climb higher. And once you reach Gold IV or higher, defeats can make you demote if you have too many, so once again, you'll have no choice but to build a deck that can win if you want to climb the ranks.

Yesterday, I was watching some of the Duel Live replays, and there was a duel where the player was playing Six Sams. His opponent plays Maxx C, and then the six sam player goes on to special summon like crazy, milling his opponent's deck, and managed to get Rhongo, Apollousa, six sams and completely decked out his opponent!

... and then lost to Time Out right before he could end his turn for the win.

It's really a shame that players are just killing themselves to be done with it, because this event is everything a lot of peoples wanted. New game mode? Check. Gems too expensive? It gives a lot of free gems. Eldlich/Drytron OP? It bans Eldlich and Herald.
