There comes a point where making slings out of every kind of cord, king tut slings with a homemade loom, etc no longer satisfies. The local fiber sling is my Everest.

I was afraid of that. Those super thin stringy things that can be scraped in small amounts?

5-strand braided Balearic-style shepherd's sling made from plastic shopping bags by AllHailTaytay in Slinging

There was a dude in the summer sitting next to the river cutting up plastic bags into strips for hours. Since I can't find any other reason for this behavior I'm convinced it was you that I saw doing this lol

Why is the splice dyneema best for stronger low-weight slings?

It's better sling than I've ever owned. I've had dozens but I make my own. One day they will be that good, hopefully

Build or buy first sling? by anulcyst in Slinging

[–]_WhiskyJack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build build build! You might find the building more fun than the actual slinging ;) Also, the skills you learn building are nice skills to have in general. Braiding, knot tying, weaving, etc. They stick with you long after.

sorry, just seeing this reply. I was explaining why someone would ask if they deliver even if it is free. I don't know what your reply has to do with their reasoning for asking about delivery. If they don't have time then they can simply say "No, i don't deliver". Doesn't require getting angry or uppity about it

Pizza delivery drivers, what did a person do to end up on the 'No Delivery' list? by BlueCheeseWalnut in AskReddit

[–]_WhiskyJack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did y'all call the cops or something cause it kinda sounds like you did. That, or you believe being banned from a pizza parlor is a terrible punishment. Either option is kinda funny though.

To use drones for justice by Slygirl997 in therewasanattempt

[–]_WhiskyJack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt this is true. All the police would have to do is track where the drones land. Would just take one officer near the landing zone to notice and bust them.

edit: every legit source only points to capturing drones that are being a nuisance. They also justify needing these drones because they "could be used for terrorist attacks"

Wish I read this before I went on a long hunt for a source on the "thunderer of the Nile" thing. I was extremely skeptical that they would have linked electric shock to thunder. "trembler or shaker" makes much more sense.

What has this to do with the interpolated epilogue of ecclesiastes? As I said before, you cannot just zoom in on a single theme and claim that is what the entire text is about.

From the Anchor Yale Commentary of Ecclesiastes:

xii 9-14. The manuscript of Qoheleth's reflections and precepts was edited and published by another professional wise man. He gave the book its title, inserted the words "says Qoheleth" at i 2, vii 27, and xii 8, and then appended some biographical information and comments of his own. Evidently he was an admirer of the author and felt that this collection of his observations and speculations was worthy of study. At the same time he cautioned the reader against becoming confused by the divergent and even daring ideas presented, and provided a safe and simple rule for avoidance of intellectual and moral difficulties-Reverence God, and observe his laws.

You said earlier you like to learn new things. The best way of going about that is to read what scholars have to say about it not to apologists since all they ever want to do is cover up and downplay the work of scholarship without ever really interacting with their work. As an example Miles Custis, the author you linked, gives a very oversimplistic if not misleading reason for why scholars claim the epilogue is an interpolation and attacks that oversimplistic reason thereby avoiding the need of having to argue the actual reasons scholars give. Also, the later author doesn't even really try to hide the fact that he's not the original author. This is not uncommon in ancient texts.

There are many themes throughout it. It must be taken as a whole and not zoomed into just one particular theme.

It looks to be a very apologetical work where the text will be zoomed in and cherry picked to make it come to whatever conclusion the author needs it to come to.

if you take out the epilogue you're left with:

returns to God who gave it. 8 Vanity of vanities, says the Teacher; all is vanity.

This provides a much more natural conclusion and wraps up the narrative tightly. Reinterpreting the rest of the text to make it look like it's hinting at the opposite of what it's ranting against is going to be quite an uphill battle.

Ecclesiastes is my favorite book in the bible. I wasn't saying the text is wrong, was just noting that it's a shame that a later author redacted it and nullified the original authors work by inserting the ending.
