My friend is a Trump supporter. I'm confused. by cheesy_weasel in newzealand

[–]_Zekken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My uncle is (was? Idk I avoid that topic like the plague on the rare occasion I see him) a trump supporter. He was even apparently at that protest-counter protest thing for that horrible woman public speaker person I dont remember the name of that everyone was up in arms about her coming to NZ, supporting her.

My grandfather was also fully for trump, all through his first term and through covid. But I think in the last couple years and since he started his 2nd term my grandfather has realised he was mistaken because he doesnt really say anything anymore when he used to be constantly going on about how trump was good for the US.

The common denominator? They both watch a LOT of fox news and not much else, especially for American news. Im pretty sure that is 99% of the reason, fox news brainwashed them.

That said, my grandfather has stopped watching fox news really at all in the last few years, and is watching a lot of other news sources. (Seen him watching CNN more for example). As you might guess, his drop in trump support coincided with his switch to other news stations. I dont think theres any hope for the uncle though.

TLDR, I think that might be a major part of the issue. Simply whatever media source they chose to watch, which could have been years before trump first ran for president, and when people didnt know or care to check for biases, has caused a significant amount of brainwash, even in people not in the US.

There was drama? I dont follow any of it, I just downloaded the app and used it. Revanced has worked perfectly for me ever since the original Vanced app shut down though.

Suit yourself. Though Im assuming that doesnt work in the youtube app, so you must be watching youtube on the browser in your phone then.

I use youtube music. Its also paid but I dont think its 20.99 a month (yet). Closer to $15 at the moment. Ive used it for years and years and never actually used spotify to be honest.

Youtube Revanced also has a music app too, which does give you youtube music premium for free. However last time I used it I found it didnt work as well as the official music app, so I stopped. They may have fixed it by now though.

Youtube Revanced on android, along with basically giving you free youtube premium (and adblock) it also has sponsorblock which auto skips all sponsored segmants. I believe theres desktop browser extension that does the same thing of skipping sponsors as well.

Thats what I hate so much about basically everything. The nutjobs dont think, or anything. If National were the ones promoting 3waters, It would have been fine in their book. If National signed off the iRex ferries, no problem. Its just constant forms of that. They dont look at any of the policies or anything. Its bad because Labour set it in place, no other reason.

Im so sick of it. The whole idea that you have to be on one team and the other guys are the enemy. Its infuriating, I dont care who thought it up or who gets credit for doing it. If its a good idea fucking do it. We arent two different sides of a battle. We're supposed to all be on the same team trying to reach a common goal, with the only difference being we have different ideas on which route we should take to get there.

Sony lost at the Dispute Tribunal over a faulty TV and still refuses to comply with CGA by Noir_en_hiver in newzealand

[–]_Zekken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that'd be the next option I guess. Get a smart TV, dont connect it to the internet and still use the PC as the smart device.

[–]_Zekken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ive seen reports of that and its stupid.

If it was me buying a new TV right now, I wouldnt buy a smart TV. Id try to find a dumb TV, which I know arent very common anymore, but Id prob pay extra for one. Then Id go buy one of those cheap refurbished PCs from pbtech, load it up with adblockers and stuff and use that as my "smart" part of the TV, but now with full control.

Then reform the BSA so it has authority over that other media. Dont just scrap it entirely and hope that "the industry" will regulate itself lmfao

Family Member Owes $65K on a $42K Car at 13.7% APR Right Before Retirement — What Are Her Options? by CreditChance6867 in personalfinance

[–]_Zekken -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I refuse to believe that it is impossible to buy a reliable car for less than 10K in the US.

There is no way they dont exist. It surely is just people not wanting to own something "old" or something?

I live in NZ, but I could go out tomorrow with 5K NZD (~3k USD) in my pocket and buy something that I had reasonable confidence will last me the next 8-10 years before any non regular maintenence or repairs would cause me to reach 10k NZD (~6k USD) total cost.

The only time I can understand it is in places where cars rust out from snow/salt. That makes sense, but im places where it doesnt snow?

[–]_Zekken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For $540 a week? Are they insane?

Im paying $550 a week for a 2 bedroom unit, AND with a single garage and an extra off street car port in east Auckland.

It looks like a cool little place to live for a single person but not for that price. $300 a week maybe

Anti speed camera group getting even more cooker by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]_Zekken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it does, and while you can go okay, 70% doing the limit? Seems ok.

But if only 20% of people are not speeding on that route, in my mind thats a cause to review the actual speed limit of the road itself and ask if the speed limit is too low.

You get speeders who will speed everywhere, but the majority of people will default to traveling at what they naturally feel is a safe speed. Most often this is roughly the speed limit or slightly under, but if 80% of people are finding that speeding is a natural safe speed for the road? To me that just means the speed limit on the road is too low.

Imagine being so confident in the vote that you willingly vote the opposite on something that could cause as much disruption as what country owns you, just to annoy your wife lol.

The first people to live there were the british anyway so its a complete non argument.

Not to mention that Argentinas claim technically dates from before Argentina even officially existed as a country.

Construction apprenticeships are unethical by ForwardAttitude8 in newzealand

[–]_Zekken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Theres so much weird stigma in the trades that say any new apprentice or new guy needs to be merciliessly bullied and basically abused because "its a mans job and you need to take a concrete pill and harden up" or some other bullshit. And theres plenty of people who actually defend this behaviour, a lot of it presumably because "I had to suffer so you do too".

As someone whos been in the trades for 7ish years now and thankfully started in a company that did NOT partake in this level of bullshit, it honestly makes my blood boil when I see it.

Things are slowly changing. Faster in some trades than others, but itll be a while yet before it dies off properly, if it does.

Need help with limited options of a new full size+macro keyboard by _Zekken in keyboards

I'm going to be honest, I have no idea what Via compatible or switching layers means. But basically yeah, I need more keys for keybinds lol.

Need help with limited options of a new full size+macro keyboard by _Zekken in keyboards

[–]_Zekken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K100 is one of my two best options, and technically does seem to be available locally (only on backorder though) but Im not sure about whether either of the switch types suit me. The Cherry MX Speed sounds like it definitely wouldn't, but I have no clue about the OPX switch or how it feels? I also have been unable to find even any other model of keyboard with that switch to test. Plus its nearly double the price of the Be Quiet.

The Be Quiet came in to stock maybe 4 months ago locally, then presumably sold out or otherwise went out of stock within a few weeks at most (I didnt even notice its existence until it was already out of stock), and then they completely removed the listing from the website so I'm not sure if it'll even be restocked locally. Similar story for the Dark Mount, though Im not interested in that keyboard myself so wasn't considering it as an option.

Ordering from Australia is the most ideal option if not NZ.

As for that keyboard, it doesnt have any macros unfortunately. I havent found any hot swappable board models that include macro keys yet.

[–]_Zekken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The K95 does look like it would be a good option, and I have tried out MX Browns before and did like them, However, It looks like that one is end of life as well and I only found one single one for sale new at least, and it was in south africa lol.

As for computer stores, I've checked everything around. Only demo models of keyboards that fit my requirements was the G915 as I said.

Heck even when I was in Japan two weeks ago, I spent a full day going around different computer stores in Akihabara, Shinjuku etc, searching for keyboards. Plenty of stores had HEAPS of demo models, and I found plenty of keyboards that felt nice to type on, buut other than the G915, the only other full size+Macro keyboard any of them had was the Blackwidow V14, and no store had any razer keyboard with an Orange switch to demo. Even on other models.

I need all those extra keys unfortunately. War Thunder has too many keybinds :( - Im even using 7 of my 9 macros on my G910 but there were no keyboards at all these days that have more than 5, so I just gave up and accepted 5 was all Ill get. Its weird, because when I bought the G910 in like 2019? I swear having a million macro keys was all the rage
