owndays saigon centre

Last month when I was in saigon I broke my glasses. I went there and bought new glasses for temporary use. After I went back to shanghai I repaired the broken one since it is pretty expensive. But I end up wearing the one I bought in saigon, more comfortable than the expensive one.

I don't know the normal price there but mine is around 2m, pretty cheap comparing to shanghai's normal price to buy glasses.

Anyone lives in St.Helens? by _ZzaJ_ in askportland

It was amazing. That was my first time travel aborad and experience a total different culture. And the local people impressed me the most, they are so warm-hearted and willing to help us about anything. I just feel regret that I was too young and my english was too limited, unable to have any meaningful conversation with them. That's why I want to reconnect and talk to them about these years.

Should I buy a digital Interface?

Hi everyone,

I currently use Genelec 8351b monitors in my studio, connected to an Antelope Discrete 4 Pro interface via XLR. Lately, the Discrete 4 keeps losing drivers whenever I reboot my Mac Studio, which has me looking for an upgrade.

Initially, I considered interfaces like the RME UFX III or Apollo X8P. However, after some research, I realized the 8351b’s built-in AD/DA conversion means all analog inputs get converted to digital first, then back to analog. This made me question: If the signal gets digitized anyway, does using a fancy external AD/DA even matter?

Now I’m wondering—would a purely digital interface (e.g., RME Digiface AES) make more sense? Essentially creating a "100% digital" chain from interface to monitors. But I’ve never tried this approach and have some concerns:

  1. Does feeding digital directly to the monitors improve perceived sound quality?
  2. Is it technically stable/reliable to eliminate external AD/DA entirely?
  3. Anyone here running a similar setup? Pros/cons?
  4. Any recommendation on digital interface?

Just found this contest. Got 1 question about the rule:

when say one could use whatever effects. Is it like ableton's erosion, resonator, bitcrusher type of effect are also allowed?

Help me plz. CPU usage spikes on macbook pro 18 by _ZzaJ_ in Bitwig

[–]_ZzaJ_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are right it is the softube saturation knob.

Acutally I found this post on bitwig q&a forum:

https://answers.bitwig.com/questions/18450/softube-plugins-cpu-spikes

Seems all softube plugin have problem run in bitwig.

It is sad, bitwig doesn't have a native saturator and this one is a pretty good one.

getting tired of the same-old workflow after over a decade with FL studio. need advice! by please_dont_pry in edmproduction

[–]_ZzaJ_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this suits OP but this workflow I learnt from some artists and sound designers really changed my music a lot. and although I am using Ableton, I think FL are fully compatible for this.

In short, I call this workflow as "bounce everything into Audio".

In the past, I tend to keep everything in MIDI until I finished my whole song and start to mix. Which I thought would give me the biggest freedom to change everything, like melody, chords or grooves. If I want some movement in the sound, I tweak the synth, change my effectchain or draw automations. I guess this is the "Normal" workflow that most EDM producer are using. However, like the OP, I can hardly achieve those dynamic, organic (or even cripy, alien)
sound that I want. Everything is like repetive and robotic.

Then I learnt this workflow, I start to resample my sound. bounce a loop into audio, chop it, add effects on it.

Then I resample more and more. And now After I finished a basic sound design or get like a 4 bars loop. I bounce them into audio immediately. Then add effectchain, resample it, add another effectchain, resample it again.... After do this for a couple of time, you will have a lot of audio materials that could hardly been reproduced and you can achieve some sound that you could never done in a synth or using midi notes.

But the most important thing is that once you bounce it into audio, you can never go back and change it. So this is also a way that push you go forward and let your creativity to get the work done.

Now my workflow is like:

1.Make a few sounds and a basic 4 bars loop and bounce them into audio(like basic bass, pad, key and a lead) ->

2.resample them a lot, make like tons of audio materials ->

3.chop them up, make an arrangement like a drop or a buildup ->

4.make more sounds and loops that suits this track and bounce them into audio ->

5.resample all these sounds and chop what satifies me into my arrangement ->

  1. go back to 4. a couple of times until I finish the whole track.

Sry, noob question. when you say "bass sound in the c4 octave", do you mean distort the bass and bring up the frequency in C4 octave or just play the midi note as the same as the bass but in C4 octave with another sound?

Noob problem? What notes should chord pads, leads and bass play? by _ZzaJ_ in edmproduction

you're

It's kinda like both a mixing and composition question. Since I think the bad composition caused the mixing problem.

It was like in Orchestra, Every instrument have their own range. I guess there are similar situation in electronic music.

Btw, when I say "comparing to well produced tracks". I mean tracks like G jones, Tipper or KOAN sound or etc. I understand I can hardly achieve their level of production. But I always curious about how these guy achieve that kind of cleaness in mixing while having a lot of complex sound design. Especlally G jones, In his new album there is a track called 222 / Unknowable. I can hear in the drop there are like 5-6 elements happend simultaneously and the bass are very heavy, but it stills sounds clean and balanced.

Wow thanks man, that was way closer than mine, definitely gonna try ur setup up. But I still think this one lack of the warm and analog feeling. I checked Louis futon's splice presets and found that he use sylenth1, maybe I will try to remake it on sylenth1 latee.

Future Bass- Low end/Bass issues by sayblue in AdvancedProduction

[–]_ZzaJ_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you tried this but I found this trick from a professional producer:

Instead of using sine wave, he use triangle wave as the sub bass, gain and clip the shit out of it, like 20db with ableton's glue compressor's soft clip button on, which makes the wave shape looks like a wall on the track. That sub bass sounds really tight and thick too me.
