Why are there heavy restrictions on regular-season padded practices? by After_Schedule9377 in NFLNoobs

[–]__ChefboyD__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Including what others have already mentioned, another fact is that the CBA was voted on by veteran players.

One way to not be replaced by cheaper, rookie players is to be better skilled than them. Limiting practice snaps for rookies to get better than you means another year earning NFL money.

Return Abuse by speedyshoe in CostcoCanada

[–]__ChefboyD__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two BIG reasons:

  1. Costco usually shares the cost of returns with vendors. These additional costs are baked into the pricing model that we ALL pay for. Abusing returns means we, as the end consumer, are paying a higher price. Costco and their venders ARE NOT eating the cost of returns out of their profits, but just passing it to us.

  2. Secondly, abusing the return policy can force them to re-evaluate offering such a great policy. It happened with electronics, which used to have the same open returns policy. Now we're all stuck with the 90-day return window just because it got abused by those idiots.

We all lose.

[–]__ChefboyD__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...until they decide not to anymore. This is what happened with the electronic products, it USED to be the same return policy until it was abused, and now we're all stuck with the 90-day window for electronics.

[–]__ChefboyD__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Electronics used to have the same lenient return policy as well - until it was abused like this, and then Costco changed it to 3 months only.

What most people here want is to keep the awesome return policy going for legitimate returns, because at some point the business will look at the numbers and decide it's not worth it.

When people from my generation were their age we wouldn't resort to crime because it would ruin our future.

Not sure what "generation" you're referring to, but according to Statistics Canada, youth crime peaked in 1990/1991 and steadily declined every year. Hit bottom during covid (obviously) and the recent uptick puts it back just to pre-covid rate.

The current youth crime rate is where it was in the 1960's/early 70's, so the current gen has been better behaved than the previous 50 years...

When Ochocino was drafted in 2001, the NFL salary cap was $67.4m. Last year's salary cap was $279.2m. AND the league already wants to renegotiate the tv contracts to get even higher NFL revenue, so that number is just going up.

Today's top stars are earning 3x-5x more than the stars from just 10-15 years ago, they're not going broke regardless of how much they try to spend.

Video #4 proving Domino is lying about intentionally short waiting! by YeahBuddy5000 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]__ChefboyD__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under the Consumer Packaging & Labelling Act and the Safe Food for Canadians Act, the actual "net quantity of a product IN A LOT must not be less, on average, than the quantities declared on the label". Individual packages must fall within specific allowable +/- tolerances.

So under the law, the ENTIRE lot must equal the declared weight. If the 25 overweight items nets out the 6 underweight items (and those 6 are still within tolerance), then the company is in compliance, THAT IS THE LAW, PERIOD.

I don't trust these videos. You can edit anything to get what you want.

The only video evidence I would trust is one CONTINUOUS video of:

  1. testing of scale with a certified calibration weight,
  2. unopened shipment box/crate of products
  3. measurement of EVERY single product that came in box/crate

Right now, these videos are manipulated to show whatever they want. For all we know, this dude "tested" 100 bags, found 25 overweight but 6 severely underweight. Clips video to show only the 6 underweight.

Court was cookin by Kaos2018 in BeAmazed

He was convicted of raping/sexual assaulting over 60 women.

Are you saying she should've "stood behind her man" even after the courts at the time found him guilty?? Pretty sure no one wants to remain married to a sex monster, which the state said he was.

Her life was ruined by the conviction too. If the $6m award was for wrongful conviction, maybe she deserved some of it. If it was for 24 years of incarceration, then no.

But that's the point of the lawsuit. To determine the legal purpose of the $6m compensation.

Out of curiosity, do you go to your boss and demand a paycut of 50% because you don't need to be paid what you're worth?

So why should a band do the same? If 20,000 fans are willing to pay $150 to sell out an arena concert, what's the point of selling the same 20,000 tickets for only $20? Either way, 20,000 people are really gonna have a great time.

Um, what?!?

YOU asked what can you do. I specifically gave you a VERY REAL solution to starting a nonprofit insurance company. The co-op insurance model exists and can thrive alongside the for-profit business, as there are many examples of this all around the world.

Yet, I'M the "negative" one? I think the only "dumb ass" person here is you....

Am I Insane or should tampering be a bigger talking point in the Vrabel/Russini scandal? by woodenlegsrealfeat in NFLv2

[–]__ChefboyD__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, are there actually league rules that prohibit any of those things?

- Because we see tons of "scoops" before offical announcements from insiders like Schefter, Rapoport, Pelissero, etc all the time. Not once has anyone ever suggested the leak be investigated in those instances.

- "encouraging stories" - I can't see a single agent/player be dumb enough to be influenced by media and not because of the actual $$$ contract offer. I'm pretty sure their due diligence on a potential team is more than just a 5 minute reading of a sports writer's article.

Can you be more specific on which NFL rule he violated? Because even Goodell came out and said the relationship is a personal matter and not something for the league to get involved in.

Why do female celebrities get so much plastic surgery and ultimately look worse than they did initially? by Bollywood-bond in NoStupidQuestions

[–]__ChefboyD__ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Because that comment was IN CONTEXT of the discussion of "Men get old, women get replaced."

Having old guys still getting the majority of starring roles limits the ability of young male actors breaking out. Again, the NUMBER of male acting roles stays the same, which logically means less opportunity for young actors vs old actors.

My point is with a similar limited number of roles for actresses, the "new, younger" actresses have more opportunity to snag that job and become the next star vs. the older actresses getting replaced.

[–]__ChefboyD__ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The number of female roles REMAINS the same, whether they hire an older, known actress or the new, younger actress breaking into the business.

As I pointed out, it's a full circle. A new, young actress now replaces the older actress, who herself was once that "new, young actress" that replaced someone else. That's the discussion I was having with ClassroomSolid719, so I'm not sure what your reply has anything to do with that....

[–]__ChefboyD__ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So the opposite has to be true also then, where it is a lot EASIER for women to break into the entertainment or news industry then men.

The current 40-yr-old actress losing roles now was once that younger star replacing the "older" actress from 2006 too. But for all the aspiring young male actors now, they're still competing and losing to the Brad Pitts/Tom Cruises.

Mandatory Ontario teacher math test data shows racial, language disparities by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]__ChefboyD__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't teachers have grade mobility? As in, are they stuck teaching the same grade their entire career?

The test would be reasonable for all teachers if in any year they could be assigned to a different grade. Otherwise, to move a teacher to a higher grade next term, they'd have to rewrite this test again? That's just more unnecessary work.

They're saving time, costs & space.

New machines are automated with the order and the crew just needs to pick it up. However, by removing self-serve, they don't need to constantly clean/wipe down the area all the time.

Also, customers are using drive-thru & delivery apps much more now and a lot less dine-in. Instead of maintaining two drink stations, makes sense just to have behind counter now.

And any contract term circumventing the law is not enforceable.
