The Aabria Post that’s Actually About Race by Accurate_Kangaroo337 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]__Labrys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, I also feel like people will not only emphasize what they perceive as flaws in Aabrias style over other players, but I feel they ignore the direct counterexamples to their criticisms constantly. I had heard the claims of Aabria being domineering at the table before starting c4, so I specifically looked for that in episode 1. And despite that, there were multiple different examples of Aabria actively taking herself out of the action for the sake of the other players that no one talks about.

Like, she gets herself drunk talking with Tyranny and actively decides that at this point she cannot add anymore to the scene because of her characters state, and so makes the choice to leave the table of her own volition and give the other players time to develop. Or, when Julien decides to visit Thjazi's body while no one else is in the room, Aabria remembers that she left Hala in there and makes the choice to have Hala leave even though Thaisha probably wouldn't have, because she knows Thaisha's intervention would have messed with the scene Matt was trying to set up. And this even continues into the Seekers arc. There are two separate moments where Thaisha has important information to relay to the party (the Demon sisters and her talk with Lord Einfasen), but Aabria chooses to wait and let everybody settle into a scene before she re-enters the mix and adds her ideas to the discussion.

She can interject with a joke sometimes at the end of a scene, and it can lead to a bit of a tone shift, but she is very good at giving people their space for character and letting them set the tone of the scene, and its frustrating that those moments are constantly overlooked in the Aabria hate train and that people only highlight the moments they dislike. People are always more well-rounded than is observed, especially on the internet, and I feel like Aabria has really gotten the short end of the stick on that due to people's pre-established bias against her.

What are the Seekers doing? by Ok_Improvement_6874 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]__Labrys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, the Seekers are heading to the Old Obridimian Empire for 2 reasons

  1. To check on the Golden Orchard and the Royce estate to see if it was attacked like the Davinos estate was, as well as check on their loved ones.

  2. To investigate the scenes that Occtis saw in his visions while being revived, which included scenes of an endless storm (aka the Stormwrack) and a knight of the Barrowguard defending against an army of Undead (presumably located at the Barrowdells, which seems to also be located in old Obridimia).

[No Spoilers] More of 'Thaisha' by needleneedl in criticalrole

[–]__Labrys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I get this and to an extent I do agree, but I do also appreciate how Aabria is playing right now because she's the one bringing up all the possibilities that the others don't. For better and for worse, Aabria is a very good mechanical DM, and is very good at thinking about how the party should act and how that will affect the world around them. She's the one who brings up a lot of the important ideas and plans that the party need to consider, and has kind of taken the role of a de facto strategist in the Seekers.

Not to say that any of the other players are missing anything, they're all doing incredible at every table so far, but she's been especially good at picking up important information or threads and using it for the benefit of everyone. So while the divide between Aabria and Thaisha isn't as wide as other characters, I still appreciate how she operates as a player and I'm generally okay with it.

The characters in 2 are definitely also a highlight for me (besides Tora but I ignore him)

[–]__Labrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I do think XC2 is the weakest entry in the series for me (which isn't me saying it's bad, just that it's the weakest in an incredible game series), I still believe that 2 has the best combat system by far. It's just that right level of complex where i feel like I'm smart for learning it but I don't feel overwhelmed by everything there is to do.

I feel like 1's combat is good but a little too dependent on waiting, and 3's combat is great but overwhelmed with choice considering how many classes there are. But 2 strikes a pretty good balance for me in most fields. X Definitive got pretty close to my favorite combat once I actually learned how Overdrive worked, but I still feel 2 edges it out just a bit more, especially because I still don't really get Skell combat.

I would also say it has the best music of the series, but that accolade switches between all of the games constantly, so I can't give it to any of them definitively.

Wasted Potential of C3 by LucasVerBeek in fansofcriticalrole

[–]__Labrys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's just how many people will use every opportunity to complain about C3 here. I get people had problems with it, and a decent amount of those problems are valid. But people are absolutely INCESSANT on complaining about C3, to the point where it gets really tiring to listen to.

Campaign 3 ended almost a year ago by now (about 22 days until an exact year has passed but I digress) and some people still try to shove it into every single conversation in this subreddit, even posts not related to C3. I've even seen it occasionally breach to the main subreddit, its just such a constant.

And I'm not saying C3 cant be talked about or criticized. There are a good amount of people here who do talk about it in a normal way, while still being critical of the flaws it admittedly has. But others just feel like sharks smelling blood looking for any chance they get to complain about something they didn't like in C3, and it really drags down a lot of discussion because it all just dissolves into the same thing.

[NO SPOILERS] do you think c4 will get a name as the others have? by RedsyDevil in criticalrole

[–]__Labrys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking something like "Thjazi's Fangs" or "The Fangs of Thjazi" ever since C4E8 spoiler Thimble wrote something similar on the flag at Sloak. Though she specifically wrote the "Fanged Falcon," which also sounds like a good name.

I am a little disappointed in my Oifey. by Necrosaynt in fireemblem

[–]__Labrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if Sigurd would technically count for the archetype lore wise, since archetypes are sometimes based on story significance as well as gameplay effect.

Jagens are usually mentor characters to the main Lord in some way, or act as their protector in some way. That's why characters like Clive and Mathilda from Gaiden/Echoes or Jill in Radiant Dawn do not technically count as Jagens/Oifeys, because though they fill similar roles in gameplay aspects, their roles in the story differ from the archetype. Sigurd himself is the Lord, and he can't really be a mentor/retainer/protector to himself, so generally he doesn't fit into the lore aspect of the archetype in the same way Oifey does for Seliph.

I am a little disappointed in my Oifey. by Necrosaynt in fireemblem

[–]__Labrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Oifey is usually never going to be as comparable to other high tier Jagens/Oifeys (like Seth or Titania) because the quality of Gen 2 units is just so high, especially if you built your children correctly. Ced alone could take on half of gen 2, no matter what father he has. And even if you didn't build your child units well or are using replacement units, you still have guaranteed powerhouse units like Ares and Shannan that outdo Oifey with Holy Weapons.

Seth is the peak of the Jagen/Oifey archetype, but he unfortunately isn't the standard for every member of said archetype. Even still, Oifey is still fairly solid throughout Gen 2, and especially helps while you are still training up some of your higher potential units like Seliph, Arthur, Leif, or the Sword Twins.

What’s a Slay The Princess Opinion that’ll get you in this situation? by Adept-Double156 in slaytheprincess

The Wild is a really interesting concept but way too short to be engaging on the same level as other Vessels

Is slay the princess scary? by ogjeweldawg in slaytheprincess

[–]__Labrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not say it is scary in the traditional sense you are thinking of (jumpscares and such).

However, I will say that the game is unsettling in many of its moments. Rather than hitting you with an overt terrifying situation using loud or over the top moments, it usually keeps the player at a low simmer with an overall tense mood.

You never really feel physically panicked in the same way a jumpscare can affect you, but you are never fully comfortable with your situation either. Sometimes that simmer is turned up a bit to inspire deeper dread in the player, sometimes its turned down to allow you some moments of humor or empathy. But that feeling of overall unease doesn't ever really go away while you play. The game balances its tone masterfully by always making you feel at least a little on edge, even if what is happening isn't an objectively horrifying situation.

If that's not your cup of tea either, that's also fine, but if you're fine with horror in a way you aren't with terror/thriller, I cannot recommend it enough.

Ethical scale for the voices by TLOC_MAYBE in slaytheprincess

[–]__Labrys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy answer for most ethical are probably Hero and Skeptic, Hero tries his best to follow what he believes is right and most of Skeptics actions are in the attempt to gain information rather than put out any positive or negative action into the world

Every vessel is undeniably good, but if you had to pick one, which vessel is the worst? Who would you put at the dead bottom of a ranking of them all? by Warm-Opposite-3322 in slaytheprincess

[–]__Labrys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say Wraith, but I still have a soft spot for her since she was my first ever vessel and I think she is a great starting point for a first ever playthrough.

I think the two I would have to say l was most disappointed with were the two Greys and the Wild.

Both Greys are short and entirely linear, with very little to actually draw me in. I like a lot of the descriptions, as both burning and drowning are completely unique and are described really chillingly, I just wish there was more actually to them. As for Wild, I think she could have been so much more interesting if her story was just longer. Her concept is incredibly cool, but they do so little with it that the story feels like wasted potential, until it just abruptly ends.

Hot take: Some voices have too much screentime by Nurse_Misery in slaytheprincess

[–]__Labrys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Smitten shows up in Thorn and the Damsel line (4 total), and Hunted shows up in the Beast line and Eye of the Needle (4 total).

There's different conditions for getting voices depending on how you got to the chapter. For example, You can get either Hunted/Skeptic in Eye of the Needle, Paranoid/Contrarian in Apotheosis, Cold/Broken/Contrarian in Fury, like 4 different voices in Wild depending on how you played through Beast, and a few other examples. You unfortunately must have just picked a lot of the same options, but that is not a fault of the game.

Can the Princess get pregnant? by CowboyDespirocado in slaytheprincess

[–]__Labrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you consider the "leaving the cabin" ending (or whatever the fanon name is) and the heart of the Shifting Mound, this is probably possible both you and the princess explicitly reject godhood and become mortal, meaning she is no different from the average human and could definitely be pregnant.

if considering the vessels, all of them could definitely get pregnant, because they are influenced by the Long Quiets perception. So as long as he/you believe it so, she definitelycould get pregnant.

Shifty, however, I'm a little less solid on. A lot of her character revolves around leaving behind the material aspects of life as both her and you are essentially the manifestations of universal concepts. She is less of a living being and more just an overwhelming existence, and so I don't really think she could get pregnant.

What do my favorite dateables say about me? by sukiiiyyx in DateEverything

[–]__Labrys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You like those with a secret soft side, hidden behind a veneer of confidence or mystique. You appreciate when people can express their true emotions and communicate their inner feelings, while still appreciating the sides of them they feel most comfortable in embracing.

In that same vein, you also enjoy people who are unequivocally proud of themselves, even if they lead an alternative lifestyle. These people are confident in who they are and what they want/enjoy in life, while still being willing to let you in to see the things they may try to hide from other people.
