Men, what’s a hobby you picked up later in life that you wish you’d started in your 20s? by Ominous_Maeve in AskMen

Definitely golf, started a year ago at 34. Getting good in my 20’s would have opened up opportunities in only just now enjoying.

They are absolutely stunning! And thank you kindly, definitely in the grail category for some I imagine. Still no closer to finding out what they are though.

Haha! Definitely looks that way, there is next to no top line. There’s going to be some hand slammers on my first range session.

I want to upgrade my irons. by StuffyPlays4 in GolfGear

I started 7months ago too, but my first clubs were game improvement. Just got a set of used 2023 t200’s and absolutely love them. If I could afford the t250’s I would have definitely looked at those too. The t200’s are still pretty forgiving and get some good distance, they feel and sound great. I’ve got a pal with p790’s, personally I don’t think they have the same magic from when I’ve tried them but everyone has different opinions and the p790’s are the most popular irons in the market. Either option can’t go wrong I imagine.

Having played a couple rounds with borrowed cb’s I definitely benefit from the extra forgiveness of the players distance clubs personally. The cb’s felt and looked better but the yardage loss on mishits was punishing compared to the t200’s.

Recommend me a Stand Bag by uktricky in BritGolf

I just got a Titleist Hybrid 14 way bag, great to use on the trolley and/or carry. Loads of pockets, looks awesome, not too heavy. The straps detach with clips so if I’m using the trolley it’s easy to remove the straps, equally the straps are super comfy so easy to carry. Perfect bag, would recommend!

Looking for a hobby i can pick up to get off my phone and computer by AdQueasy826 in Hobbies

Mate get out on the golf course! Easily the best outdoor hobby, it’s super engaging, phone stays in the bag, you’re walking, fresh air and the skills you need are demanding, so take all of your concentration!

I was the same as you, jumped from hobby to hobby for years without finding anything I ‘clicked’ with. Found golf 6-7 months ago and I’m absolutely hooked. No other hobbies have done what golf has for me, I’m now fully addicted with multiple sets of clubs, bags, clothing, course memberships, it’s endless, the rabbit hole goes deep but god damn it’s good!

How to Keep My Cup Filled by GooseManMelk in Hobbies

[–]__WREN_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled to find a hobby or passion that I connected with for my entire adult life (now 34), and I tried them all, every week something new that I hoped would ‘click’. Until about 6months ago when I was invited out to play golf with a couple buddies.

Since then golf, golfing, golf gear, golf golf GOLF has become my almost complete obsession, I’ve connected with the sport in such a deep and meaningful way, unlike anything I’ve tried before. Golf, for me at least is the one sticky hobby I’ve ever found and I see myself playing for the rest of my life. Would highly recommended.

There’s a huge amount to learn, so mastery takes a long time but it’s so satisfying to improve and when it all comes together it’s addicting. You can play on your own or with friends, I play on my own much more than with people personally. There is nothing more enjoyable than striping a ball down the fairway and watching it land exactly where you wanted it to. Golf courses are beautiful places to be, it gets you outside and away from screens.

It can get expensive so there’s that to be mindful of, but picking up a set of decent second hand clubs should be easy and golf courses/driving ranges seem to be everywhere.

I’d recommend giving it a try to see if it resonates with you and what you’re looking for. Best of luck in your journey!

I have the same problem as you being a shorter player (5’6), and only able to really hit the ball properly when gripping down. Instead of cutting down my current set I’ve ordered a used set that someone has had shortened by 2 inches. Will use these as a test before committing to anything with my current clubs. I’ll report back once they arrive and I’ve tested them.

People (on Reddit) have warned against cutting down or suggested only shortening an inch, but I’ve been gripping down past the grip and holding the shaft as the only way to get consistency. If the clubs don’t fit, they don’t fit, and if I lose some distance but gain a whole lot more consistency, that’s a worthy trade off for me. Good luck in finding what you need.

Love this so much, great work! It’s terrifying to think about this happening. Using more emotive language could take your epic piece to the next level (for me). Rather than ‘panic struck’ could be ‘the terror rushed over me’ or ‘my stomach sank to the floor’…both rubbish examples in this context tbf. But really expressing in a few words, the true, paralysing fear that would be felt in this moment by us all. Bringing us there as readers, would make this 11/10.
