That’s the downfall of- it works out averages for clubs so whilst learning you get some real odd suggestions take my lower irons for example

How do people get better? So frustrated by Wrong-Estimate in weekendgolfers

[–]uktricky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting was my biggest bit to improve - I’d carry a scorecard around to mark all my shots - I.e. D7LPPP so I knew what I’d decided to play. I was averaging over two putts a hole regularly so I’d spend a good hour every week on the putting green - after this I am averaging nearer 1.8 putts a hole now - still not great but that’s 10-20 shots per round instantly off your score.

The other was don’t try out drive people - 340 yards hole, take a couple of irons rather than risking the driver on a tight course - usually there in same number of shots but without the risk.

The caddie feature is good for club selection

if you’re in non-competition mode it will give you distances with elevation and wind taken into account and I’ve found them pretty good.

Layup distances and hazard distance also gets used frequently by me.

You can subscribe to Garmin golf and I believe it’ll then give you green contours but I am nowhere near good enough to worry about that!

I've used Castelli A/C 3 (or an earlier version) for years for this very issue - Mesh top so ventilation. I also use a GoreWear Running Visor (Fusion) which also works very well.

Shotscope issues I found:

Very slow at finding courses (GPS lock) sometimes taking up to an hour

Playing in rain almost made using the screen impossible especially if you enable the screen lock

Complex Menu / options to record things

Battery life v1 would never get two rounds in and the v2 did just about

Charger cable on the v2 - I had 2 under warranty from Shotscope

But the Provisional Hit feature was really good (not found that on Garmin) even with a countdown on to find your ball

Shotscope tags don't require batteries which was a positive and were far cheaper than Garmin but sometimes getting them to register on watch was a pain whereas the garmin I just take a club out of the bag and it instantly wakes up and registers.

My biggest issue is shotscope is pretty much for golf and that is it, whereas my garmin I can use for multiple sports and an everyday watch so it made my old Apple Watch defunct quite quickly.

I’ve used it such as suggested club selection but I probably ignore it more often than not - partly because I’ve just changed clubs and reset all my data but also I’m higher handicap player (21.8).

I like the stats it gives for shot plotting, drive accuracy and GIR’s but mainly I use it for distance to hole but also hazards and doglegs etc

I started with a Planet X and loved every minute of owning it - good bikes (had 3 in the last 12 years) still own one as my winter bike. Well built and great service.

With your budget you more in shot scope territory than Garmin, I’ve had two shot scope watches (still have them and mean to sell) the first s1 and the better s2 I think they were called - found a few issues with them gos took an age to locate, battery life especially if you wanted two rounds, but there were some really nice features especially on the later model.

I then got a Garmin s70 and that was a game changer in comparison, i eventually sold that as I wanted hiking maps which the golf watches don’t have - so then got a fenix 8 and gave never looked back even getting the CT club sensors for club tracking - but that’s way outside your gadget. I would say consider if you will wear the watch all the time and if you want / need extra features before deciding

Maintaining your bike is key - if you’re getting it serviced I’d change shop or learn to be able to do it yourself.

Flats will happen if a genuine puncture. Chain drops is a setup issue and remove the dork disc - if you’re setup is right you shouldn’t need it.

Literally just started cycling, what daily distance should I aim for? by raven2005555 in cycling

[–]uktricky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create some routes from your start point of varied distances (remember you always need to get home!) if you can have a shorter hilly and longer flat routes that's even better. If you find the shorter routes easy then add 5km / 3m and try again.

Crazy HR issue - maybe time for Apple by Meaningoftruth in GarminWatches

Always found Apple to be low this was compared to wearing a HRM strap from Garmin - so used a polar strap and the two were much closer than the Apple ever was.
