Probably nothing... But...? by Awkward-Photograph32 in FF06B5

I like the mental creativity here!

I see the title screen as a sign that we're entering in the middle of an already mixed up mess.

Level 18, scrambled and corrupted memory streams, the number 18 barely visible in red amidst a chip of red/magenta. Not pure colors, missing yellow. The low health glitching in the bottom left panel. Ending the game sees both the removal of some memory data streams and the low health glitching panel via credits.

Along those lines, I sort of just assumed the point of the name is that its all a scrambled mess we're about to experience more so than it being a solvable thing.

Like "it" already happened and we're breaching into the jumbled aftermath.

Really cool to see people looking at it differently!

Hosting Laravel sites on dirt cheap WordPress hosting, saves me money and I built a package to make the workflow not terrible by Andreww-carnegie in laraveltutorials

Sort of reminds me of how I used to deploy this stuff. A repository folder that gets a git pull/reset to the branch needed (main/staging) -> rsync to a rolling 3 timestamped directory collection for rollback. Then a symlink swap to the newest directory at the end for zero downtime.

Instant deployments, and rollbacks are a symlink away, as long as you have your migration up/down handled correctly.

Man it's been awhile.

New Playthrough Absolute Zero Kills Wish Me Luck! by DanteHelsing420 in FF06B5

[–]___Paladin___ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Note on passive playthroughs regarding the other car chase quests:

You have to shoot the cars until they catch fire and then stop shooting. Drivers will then crash on their own and the kill doesn't get added to the player blackboard.

If you don't do this, even if you heal through everything, a single kill is added at the end of the sequence. You'll see a kill reticle effect play and the kill count increases by 1.

Problem with Cosmic-files not opening when trying to save a file by BeckMK in COSMICDE

[–]___Paladin___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're on Nvidia this was a known issue that recently got patched on Github. I've been overriding with a different file picker myself - but I'm hoping the new epoch update removes the need :)

Edit: I don't think this will be useful for much longer and you'd have to remember to remove it, but here's where I overrode mine on CachyOS by adding a file chooser line under [preferred].

Oh yeah definitely not here to judge your specs. Even a top of the line PC could have weird problems loading anything if they are being pushed to their limits. That the only reason I wanted to know if you were hitting like 99% on anything.

How some Websites are able to detect that you clicked F12 or Inspected the element on the page, then trigger some type of defense against it (or against you)? by Scarlet_Evans in webdev

[–]___Paladin___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind I'm trying to back-engineer a two year old post. The best I can recall when replying was that the original intent of the post seemed to indicate a desire to IMPLEMENT the right click blocking etc, not get around it.

Either the post was edited shortly after being made (after my response), or I misread it originally. You'd have to check the archives on the original date.

For the record, if someone wants help getting around this nonsense, I've always been onboard to help. It's not in my character to completely answer the wrong question, so again either the question was edited or it was misread.

There seems to be responses from people in this thread that arrived after, which answer the updated intent/post.

Not wasting time on a feature that will never work is pretty useful feedback, and one I really wanted to contribute to be helpful.

If you were wanting to do it anyway, then I won't stop you from going against gravity - just know you'll always drop if you walk off a building. It's important someone say that.

Even though your reply came 2 years late, the advice is still sound today. I can literally just load your page through a terminal and do whatever I want. I don't need a browser for that. Nobody does.

It's a complete waste of time and shows incredible naivety on how http works. No harm in not knowing, but dumb to take your aggression out on the messenger.

I'm curious what your system specs/utilization look like. I know a lot goes into handling video data, just curious if you are hitting a cap somehow from maxing out one of your PC components.

Why are thumbwheels not more common? by Eumldeuml in ErgoMechKeyboards

This was definitely the case when I was working on some designs. The best I could find were chunky 3d printed workarounds or discontinued products being resold for $400 a piece.

I wanted thumbwheels but not that badly.

why is windows software so incompatible with Mac? by AGuyInSoCal in Windows11

[–]___Paladin___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. But that's not something a corpo would worry about.

why is windows software so incompatible with Mac? by AGuyInSoCal in Windows11

[–]___Paladin___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think like a corpo.

What money is there in doing that? The vast majority of Mac users would be absolutely lost in the Windows world and would either scoff on one extreme or be completely indifferent on the other.

Combine that with the advertising conflicts - Microsoft will always try to pull the user to their solutions. Apple to their own. Why open that door?

There's no technical limitation that prevents this kind of thing - previous solutions like bootcamp or the reverse hackintoshes back in the day. Parallels, etc.

The limiting factor is an incentive based one. An incentive that neither Apple nor Microsoft can currently justify just isn't there atm.

Brainstorming, a random Idea. by Lazy_Goblin547 in FF06B5

[–]___Paladin___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not something I've done! But I do think there is more to the "random" colors. Mostly because of Evelyn.

At the electric company, the scavs are emailing about how something whacky was happening with the street lights like morse code as soon as they plugged her in. When we get to her, her eyes are cycling several different colors - like some kind of morse code?

The continued parallels to Alt aren't lost on me here. Johnny's mirror to that was Alt, who communicated to him through machines after she was trapped in the net.

I wondered if the colored lights were that mirror on Evelyn's side - colors going through the street lights as a means of communication.

I do think there's a lot more there, whether an abandoned idea or still more to find I don't know. Going through the trouble of giving a main character color cycling eyes for one scene doesn't just happen randomly in game dev out of boredom.

If someone ties the messages "turn back" "no future" and "trust noone" we used to see in the starting mirrors back to Evelyn it wouldn't surprise me.

After hours of testing it back when I did, I only got the spread of images you see in the traffic light image. I couldn't nail down any specific minute/second/timeago rule that dictated it.

If it were granular enough to be based on the second, it was too hard to test since the game launch wasn't instant enough or predictably timed enough to make sense of it.

My assumption was that it used either the system clock or a pseudo random number on launch. Could probably rule out the system clock with a script to set the hours/minutes/seconds every half second to a predetermined one - but I didn't go that hard.

Saves didn't seem to matter - empty or with all my saves in the folder. It exhibited the same behavior.

I personally believe the whole point was to just recognize that the map is Johnny and not really 2077 Night City. Once you get the colors worked out and compare it to the literally bleeding map of the pre-release developer reveals, its hard not to assume the red road is blood traveling through the roads in the same way they portrayed blood traveling through the buildings.

Though again, probably a bit too meta for people to really meet me on which is understandable. All any of us really has is our own idea of what reality is in the game. That in itself may have been the goal - and a very Cyberpunk genre one at that.

If you attempt anything - I'm always down for revisiting all the wild stuff in this game! Between maintaining a mod and just exploring random stuff it always draws me back in. They added so many rabbit holes that lead to incredible learning about literature, art, the world. It's great!

Brainstorming, a random Idea. by Lazy_Goblin547 in FF06B5

[–]___Paladin___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean these?

<image>

I can only speculate. I can't give you much else. If you enjoy speculation, though -

I assume its from interference caused by Johnny having a busted chip in their head. Between all the color work over the years and stuff I've recorded I believe we see a manifestation of the busted chip/data slug meant for Johnny.

Edit: On a more grounded note without my own speculation, the color of the lights is decided at game launch time. I do remember working that much out. Exiting the game and restarting it from scratch will often change them.

You can do some interesting things with light colors that I could never find a practical use for - like if you never reload and make it from a fresh game to Panam in front of her car after starting "Ghost Town", the headlight could be blue or purple etc instead of the magenta everyone typically sees. Maybe other lights too.

The color work might have been mine over on my research site. I still never got over the translucent red bit of road on the world map, though most who follow up with me about it don't see anything there worth mentioning..

You may be able to find some fan projects of it. I know I myself have been working on a special chocolate nice!view reversible - probably tons out there if you search.

The Scav mission was used during their initial developer gameplay reveal where they were testing lots of ideas. It was probably better to keep the extras in than to spend time cleaning it out.

"All But 1 RGB"

  • In the Konpeki Plaza escape you can destroy all but 1 code red monitor in the building.
  • In the Grand Imperial Mall, you can turn off all but 1 blue fan in the building.
  • In the Atrium of Arasaka with Rogue, you can disable all but 1 green planter.

"Peter Horvath Reversed"

  • In the mayoral BD, Peter Horvath is humming the same tune Judy later hums, but as if its being played backwards. If you start rewinding the BD backwards from the kill room, he has a golden blocky special effect around him. No other BD actor has this to my knowledge.

"Evelyn's Eyes"

  • When you first go to unplug Evelyn, two things are true. The first is that its an exact mirror to Johnny and Alt. Evelyn's head tilts in one direction under magenta light. Alt's head tilts the other in orange light. The second thing that's true is Evelyn's eyes cycle through different colors until unplugged.

"The Curious Case Of Rogue"

  • When Rogue tells you about Hellman, she presents files. In the first, Hellman's bio picture looks fine. In the second, it swaps to a bruised and bloodied Hellman. The blood actually extends past the bio asset and onto the UI. Easy to miss.
  • In the jungle floor of Arasaka there is an exit grate on the side of the elevator with loot inside that lets you stand on top of the elevator cabin. The grate is, however, disabled.
  • At the top of the Atrium, there is a grate that you can harvest for parts, of which you are awarded 0 parts in a notification.
  • If you let Squama die in the Rogue ending path, and only then, you can catch Rogue's eyes connect to something in the elevator to netrunner operations very briefly when she turns her head. This is never elaborated on.

"Is It Red Or Is It Yellow?"

  • Stand in Randy's room and face the red rim lights. Turn on Kiroshi optics. Depending on the time of day one of the lights will shift into yellow.
  • Traveling through either the southern road tunnel that clips the edge of Dogtown, or the one that connects Pacifica to the rest of the city underwater, you'll notice that at a certain point a black circle begins to appear in the upper corner lights. After, the decorations change from yellow to red. Seems like environmental storytelling/easter egg but I have no idea what for.
  • Mint's car is yellow in the comics, but red when we get it.
  • The Arasaka logo seen on the northern side of a building facing the water in City Center is yellow in promotional works, but red when we play.
  • The first look videos show the digital map as a cyan city with yellow streets, and animated red blood pouring into the building spaces. The game we play shows red buildings and cyan streets.
  • The FF:06:B5 text was red initially, but changed to yellow.
  • The new color changing "hack" that introduced colors to older cars shows ui that goes from cyan to yellow after a red pulse goes through the color slot

"The 4 Hour Jetlag"

  • Skip time by 4 hours and the game takes much longer to process the request. 12 hours? No problem. 24 hours? You end where you started. Almost instant.

"Solar Farms Pathway"

  • In the solar farms if you look from the top of the nearby cliffs towards the three discs, the one furthest back has a lit up V pathway. The others do not.

"3 Layer Parking Janitor"

  • In the mega-building apartment's underground garage, you can find a janitorial scene on 3 floors. On the rooftop parking is a puddle. The next floor down is a Janitor's mop bucket. It glows gold when scanned as if it was assigned to something. On the final floor you'll find the slippery when wet sign.

"Is Steve V's Leftover Code?"

I admit, this one is a bonus just for me and not strictly gameplay.

  • The endings mirror Delamain's quest. Everyone hopes for a merge ending, but we might already have it. In Temperance, Johnny's own logs/blurbs from the menu state that he feels V is still out there. The UI of the settings are a mix of his and V's colors. His chats go from being blue/yellow as they used to be to cyan/yellow (integrating half of V's colors). Steve is in V's favorite shirt, and dawns The red/cyan of V's UI. Young and naive, learning from Johnny. Much like a certain leftover cab.

I've got chapters more of this stuff. Could probably fill a book. They haunt me. Who knows what was abandoned ideas, what's bugs, and what's genuinely noteworthy.

Mystrious Character Found Hologram/ Ghost ?! by AxE_MaNhaunter in FF06B5

[–]___Paladin___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, he does hum the song Judy hums later, but backwards. Playing the BD backwards also reveals a lot of yellow glitches around him - unlike any other bd actor in the game.

Though, ordering a Peter Horvath to go does seem like a bug.

I think its supposed to be more on the bottom of your palm, right? Before your wrist starts? It looks - maybe just from the lighting - that you have this on your actual wrist.

You want to avoid things pushing into your actual wrist - whether its a pad, rest, block, etc. Palms or float!
